Just announced at the team formerly known as Stars' press conference. New logo to come--and it has a LOON.

Here's some pics from the presser.

    Wow, that is pretty cool.

I just renamed the Wikipedia page and added the logo. Already have the templates redone, too. :p

Logo and jersey are beautiful. Don't like how they went the boring/generic euro route with the name though.

What's the story behind the bird?

I liked the name and the colors of the stars. Too bad they didn't keep them.

I believe it's supposed to be a loon. At least that's what they said on Twitter.

Loons is much better than United. That's what I'm gonna call 'em from now on.

Do we need to request a forum name change?

Nice badge, boring name. NASL continues its streak of awful names.

"United" is bad. "Loons" is worse. Would've been better off to stick to Minnesota FC. Nice crest though!

I never said it was a good loon :D. It does look a tad bit hummingbird-ish with a little peacock tossed in.

I thought the same thing with the euro style 'United' nickname (yawn). The black jersey looks good, the light blue one - meh. Too plain.

Now Carolina and Minnesota can have their own cup/rivalry game: Beak Brawl...Feather Fight?

The red button symbolizing the loon's eye on the shirt is pretty nifty.

Very nice logo and shirt, the name...ugh

I actually love the loon. He looks like he could kill your whole family and eat them.

Soon this will strike fear into men's hearts!

I love Light Blue (sky blue, baby blue whatever) and Black as colors and that away kit is boss. However I am against the name United unless its Twin Cities United. Does Minnesota really need to be United? Isn't it already united? Back in the day there was some serious animosity between Minny and St Paul, which is partially a reason why the Lakers left and why the Twins went with Minnesota rather than Minneapolis or St Paul. So using Twin Cities United would make sense in that regard, but I guess I will have to accept it since I have no control whatsoever.

I agree, but I also see the case for "Uniting" Minnesota. As somebody from Outstate, there's a tangible Cities bias. People in MPLS and STP look down on the burbs, while the people in the burbs look down on the cities themselves (while still identifying themselves as "from the Cities"), and everybody looks down on everything outside of the Metro area. Then the people from Outstate get all uppity about how we're "just as good" as the Cities, even though we're clearly not (I'm lookin' at you, St. Cloud ).

    +1.

Minnesota would probably have better brand appeal than "just" Twin Cities. I think you will always see Minnesota in the name.

I was a fan of the old logo, but dude bought the team and is pending money on it, so he can call it what ever he wants, is not like the Stars were an old name.

Well, at least it's not named after a drink or something. Very newbie ownerish name but I trust there's some longevity in the club now. The kits I totally dig!

FWIW I meant that as a compliment. "Loons" is wholly original, unique and just a bit quirky...in the same vein as baggies, dons, millers and magpies. MUFC on the other hand seems strangely familiar but I can't quite think of why...

Hmmmm. I kind of liked the Stars branding, but then again, I had no problem with the Thunder branding either (I'm assuming that was legally a different team).

Overall this looks nice, but I'd downsize the "FC" part. Otherwise it looks like United FC, which happens to be in Minnesota. I love the colors, though.

    What's the jersey sponsor situation?
