I agree we need one or two more proven defenders Katherine Reynolds may be available. Is Nikki Marshall still available? They both played here last year and in WPS before that.

Top 5 realistic defenders for WNY to try to acquire: (not in order of importance for these five)

1.) Nikki Marshall (played for the Flash this past season)
2.) Allison Falk (played for Philly in WPS. 6'0" tall, so she fits right in with this tall team)
3.) Kia McNiell (WNY could use another speedy defender, and she's a veteran. fits in both needs)
4.) Kandace Wilson (played for the Flash in 2011 during their WPS championship season)
5.) Toni Pressley (played for the Flash this past season)

If WNY can even get two of these players, it'll help them out dramatically.
Acquiring some more veterans and speed to help defend against Portland's offense is paramount.

The only problem with that is that if the other teams let any of these players slip through to the draft, they should fire their GMs. It's going to be interesting to see the caliber of defenders that are left after all the free agent announcements.

So far Marshall (Portland) and McNeill (Boston) have been claimed ahead of the draft, as I expected. Haven't heard anything about Falk, Wilson, or Pressley, though, but there are still signings to be announced.

Right, which is why it would be a coupe if WNY signs even two of the five mentioned above as stated. Otherwise, they're dipping down into the next tier of defenders available. WNY is gonna have an offense, but at this point, they aren't gonna lead the league in any real important defensive statistical categories.

who is abby's running mate? i must have missed somthing. without press, i see them in a bunch of 1:0 games. league teams will play set pieces much better than brasil :whistling:, so her headers will be limited.

Adriana? I don't know her but someone's running along with Vero Boquete for Spain and I think it's her. I think she also played last year for Aaran Lines. If he liked what he saw, I'd have to trust his judgment on this one -- he had Vero for one year before the Flash joined WPS.

Adriana had 15 goals for the Flash. So she can score and is a big body. Plays the ball at her feet alot better then Abby to be honest.

    A) I don't believe the V. Perez for A. Rodriguez (rights) rumor. I think it is a sly comment from the Seattle fans on the number of Independence/Fury players (ARod being one) that the Flash have picked.
    B) My choice for starting lineup right now, from left to right is:
    Forward: Perez, Wambach
    Midfield: Adriana, Lloyd, Zerboni, Salem
Defense: Huffman, Barzuck , Taylor, McCarthy
    Goal: Henderson
    C) I think this is the list of players so far - I included Alex Sahlen because she will be valuable as an experienced defender in the Flash system.
    Barzuk D Franch G Grove F
    Huffman D Henderson G Adriana F
    Logue D Trajonar G Perez F
    McCarthy D DiMartino M Wambach F
    Sahlen D Lloyd M Zerboni M
    Taylor D Robinson M
    Yokers D SalemM

Huffman has been a midfielder as a pro, unless the Flash decide to move her back (she was a defender in college). You missed Estelle Johnson on your player list, definitely insert her in the back line as a starter. I really can't see 5'9" Adriana as an attacking mid, I'd flip flop her and Perez.

Assuming Henderson does sign (there's rumor talk of her not joining the league), the keeper situation will be interesting. Do you keep a talent like Franch on the bench, even though she's a rookie? Tough call.

You also missed Sam Kerr on your player list, how'd that happen? :D

Six 2012 Flash players went in the first 18 picks of the supplemental draft, apparently they were a pretty good squad. Very surprised Toni Pressley wasn't selected, the Flash should snatch her back up as a discovery player. Depth at center back never hurts.
I don't buy that rumor either. It'd be a bad deal for the Flash that makes no sense. Besides, I thought there was a league rule that only allocated players from the same country could be traded(?).

I get it from the Seattle side as Perez could help them. Here's a version of the trade I like better for the WNY side. Send Perez to Seattle and WNY gets Teresa Noyola to balance the Mexican thing (available in June???) and the rights to Nikki Kryzsik. She's from NJ and is more likely to sign to an eastern team and she seems the type player AL favors.

    All good points.
The best trade proposal here, between Seattle and Western New York, is this:

    WNY receives
F - Amy Rodriguez (the rights to her)
    MF - Teresa Noyola
D - Nikki Kryzsik (the rights to her)
Seattle's "non-used" 5th free agent spot (that WNY can use on whoever they want right now)
    Seattle's 1st round pick (2014 college draft)

    Seattle receives
    MF - Veronica Perez
D - Estelle Johnson (Seattle needs an "athletic" defender in front of Hope, they have no Ellertson)
    WNY's 3rd round pick (2014 college draft)

Simply put, before this trade proposal, WNY was the lone team that had two American subsidized players in allocation, and Seattle had three (when counting A-Rod). The league allows for A-Rod to be included in the trade, because the teams then swap on who is the lone team in NWSL with just two subsidized American players (WNY was that team before, Seattle would be that team now with this trade). Seattle would then be given a 3rd allocated U.S. player in 2014, which helps calm the fact they'd be losing their 1st round pick in the loaded 2014 college draft in this deal.

Seattle Reign analysis of this trade:
    This deal helps Seattle now.
Perez joins them immediately, and gives them attacking help, and depth at midfield (and forward if needed). Estelle Johnston gives them a badly needed athletic defender in front of Hope Solo.

WNY Flash analysis of this trade:
WNY is helped from this deal "in the long run".
They'll have to wait until June to get Noyola, and 2014 to get A-Rod, and who knows on Kryzsik (they should be able to convince her, since Kryzsik is almost local to them). But if and when WNY gets most or all of these pieces, they become that much more formidable to "beat Portland" in the playoffs. And they get flexibility. They can use Seattle's non-used 5th free agent spot to sign whoever they want to help them out right now in 2013. And they then get two first round picks in the 2014 loaded draft, in which WNY can get Dunn or Ohai potentially (but would get two stud players in the 1st round in 2014, no matter who they get).

This trade sets up WNY better for the 2013 playoff season, better for 2014, and better for the future overall. Noyola would work wonders with this team. Kryzsik gives them a veteran technician of a defender to join the other athletic and young defenders they have now.

Western NY should first contact Krysik and ask if she'll play for them, if they make a trade to obtain the rights to her. If she says, "Yes", or, "Most likely, since I'm from New Jersey and I didn't want to go out to Seattle", then WNY should pull the trigger on this deal.

Kryzsik is a better defender overall than Estelle Johnson, and Noyola is the better Mexican overall over Veronica Perez. As a bonus, WNY gets A-Rod in 2014, and their first round draft picks in 2014 go from one pick to two first round picks, in a LOADED draft. Plus WNY gets the non-used 5th free agent spot from Seattle, in which the Flash could use on any domestic player they want right now. That player wouldn't have to clear any "Discovery" rules and regulations.

Yup, I forgot to list Kerr and Johnson - I have no excuse :speechless:. I watched Huffman play left midfield for magicjack and was impressed. I wanted an experienced left back, so I decided to put her there. For right back, I considered Johnson, but decided on McCarthy as a national team player over Johnson who has good WPS experience. Given that I like height on defense and McCarthy is reportedly only 5', I agree that Johnson would be a better choice there. I watched Adriana play last year and she has more of a power style than a finesse style. So I pushed Perez forward and pulled Adriana back to match a finesse forward with Abby's power.

Midfield is a puzzle; lots of good pieces, but how they fit together is not obvious. I have to leave Lloyd in the center due to her experience, comfort level, and athleticism. Zerboni belongs in the middle due to her energy, ability to see the game, and ability to feed the forwards. I put Adriana on the left due to her overall soccer ability. Right side could be any of the other true midfielders on the squad, but I chose Salem because of her good synergy with Zerboni and she is pretty darn good.

Thank goodness Toni Pressley scored in the final! She is a tall, robust player with a cannon for a left foot. Her accuracy with the cannon was variable last year. I felt her ground game (ball at her feet and short passing) was weaker than expected for someone on the U23 team. So, I would not choose her to be on the team.

Looking at the schedule Adriana could miss 6 games depending on how well Spain do in the Euros. 5 at the very least.

Vicki DiMartino better step up for the Flash.
She's always been a better club player, and youth national team player (in the international game), than a college player. We'll see what she's like as a pro league player.

It is a good set of signings.
I am hoping for another WNYF Legue vistory, that would be some kond of record I think. Winning a different League each year for four years running, and not just different levels in the same promotion/relegation league-system as Euro team may do.

It's the best 5-woman free agent class in the history of the league so far.
    Better than Seattle's, Washington's, and Chicago's.
