You are correct. The USASA runs the Women's Open Cup.

Well all I know is that Chicago Red Stars won their qualifying group, not sure about anyother teams for 2012.

Beau Dure has been on the case:

U.S. Women’s Open Cup 2012: Quest for results!

He's added via Twitter that a Utah team is representing Region IV, apparently by fiat.

Though the best thing to do might be to let this thread die and use this one:

So, since putting together the articles I did yesterday evening and this morning, I was really impressed with New York Athletic Club, making the final four in each of the past four years and winning in '11 (according to Chicago news sources) before losing their title to the Red Stars in '12.
But in the past half-hour, I've been able to dig through the USASA site a bit more and have discovered that NYAC didn't even make it to the final four in '11. Who won that year? J.B. Marine, the STL club that Chalu and Brunn played on, which now makes me feel like an absolutely horrible STL (women's) soccer fan. X-P
Of course, I still haven't found somewhere on the USASA site that actually says JBM won. What I did see was that JBM's site says they won the '11 Amateur competition - USASA's info doesn't have an Amateur competition for '11, and lists JBM in the Cup competition. So there.

Trying to research this stuff is making my head spin.

I am sure you know a lot more about wiki than me, how can we upload a picture to wiki.

I was thinking this one, but not sure who owns the rights.

Well, while doing research after being asked to expand on the 2011 article, I found something from Beau Dure that I'm surprised hasn't been posted here on the forums yet (at least I haven't seen it). It's a great collection of results from the past four years:
    http://www.sportsmyriad.com/2012/06/u-s-womens-open-cup-2012-quest-for-results/

    eh heh, uploading pictures is actually one thing I've steered clear from. ^^;
But if you look at the left-hand side of the screen, one of the sections there is "toolbox" - one tool is "Upload file", and clicking there brings you to a page with a link to the upload form as well as a list of helpful info links.

These would be good games for US Soccer to promote the hell out of. Cup play is so exciting.

Unfortunately US Soccer has basically zero to do with games, and apparently doesn't want to. It's all USASA.

Just decided to bump this with bits of info.

According to the USASA Website, this year's Women's Championships will be played June 25-27 (for the Open itself; the Amateur and the age-group competitions will be June 28-30) in Overland Park, KS.

Me being the hopeful that I am, I noticed defending champions Chicago Red Stars have no NWSL games scheduled from the 19th to the 29th - but I have no clue about the Region II qualification schedule. Also, I got really excited when I realized the Open was in KS - the Overland Park Soccer Complex is about 15min from FC Kansas City's stadium - but FCKC has games on the 23rd, 26th, and 30th...
I'm still hoping at least one NWSL enters, but based on the schedule alone, the only possibilities would be either CHI or POR.

From what I can tell, it seems the women's competitions are being treated as completely separate from the men's competitions for the first time this year (the men's championships will be in mid-July, so I assume the qualification events will be held separately as well) so it's REALLY hard to find info on the regionals. Anyone know of a local team that plans on participating?

Draw for this year announced, highly anticlimactic:

No clue what happened to the larger tournament of past years with regional qualifying and whatnot.

This seriously passed under the radar, buuuuut:
---In the Open competition, the Houston Aces won the four-team group. KC Dynamos were runners-up.
---In the Amateur competition, six teams played a partial round-robin, with the best two teams after three games facing off in the final, which saw ASA Chesapeake Charge (previously of WPSL Elite) bested the RSL Women (yes, RSL as in the MLS team; previously known as Salt Lake City Sparta).
---In the U23 competition, it was the same format as the Amateur competition. St. Louis Scott-Gallagher (previously associated with the St. Louis Athletica) beat FC Wisconsin (who? lol) in that final.

    *blows dust off thread*
I know I started a separate thread for the 2014 Open Cup, but just in terms of traffic to that thread and the amount of news coming in for this year, I think it's better to just use the existing not-year-specific thread here...

As for the amount of news coming in for this year's cups: I can't find anything. USASA's site says it should be played July 16th-19th, but that's less than a month away now and their old "leagueapps" site I've used to track past cups hasn't updated with this year's cup. Of all the teams that participated last year, none appear to have open cup games on their schedule.

    So does anyone know more?

Yes, looks like a round-robin, then the team that finishes first plays the team that finishes second.

So we're two games into pool play so far:
    rank - team - WLD - GP - Pts - GF - GA - GD
    1 ASA Charge 2 0 0 2 6 6 3 3
    2 Olympic Club 1 1 0 2 3 4 3 1
    3 New York Athletic Club 1 1 0 2 3 4 5 -1
    4 Fredericksburg FC 0 2 0 2 0 2 5 -3

Charge to face Olympic and NYAC vs FFC later today, final tomorrow.

Looking like the Charge's tournament to lose. They've beaten two of the teams, and one of those teams beat the only team they haven't played.

Per Charge tweet, tonight's games were rained out. They will be played tomorrow. The final is canceled, so the standings will determine the champion. Charge just need a draw to clinch.

    Wow, okay...

Charge lost 0-2 to Olympic, thus losing the title. (Whether by H2H or by GD, same result.) NYAC got absolutely hammered 0-4 in the "consolation" game.

Yes, kind of a weird pair of results:
Charge beat NYAC who beat Olympic who beat the Charge.
NYAC beat Olympic who beat Frederick who beat NYAC.

Soccer competitions obviously don't observe the transitive property.

Disclaimer: what follows is wild wishing on my part. I don't normally indulge in this kind of thing but today has been very weird, for multiple reasons.

Anyway, we know USASA runs its own Women's Open Cup, which I think is great as it gives amateur teams a chance at a cup title aside from their leagues' respective playoffs. But we've all been hoping that, at some point, a true, top-to-bottom Open Cup would be created for the women, i.e. including the professional teams. I've come up with two ideas as to what a true top-to-bottom Open Cup could look like. (We also wished that W-League teams would take part in USASA's open cup, but their beef with WPSL mostly prevented it. Hopefully UWS-vs-WPSL isn't nearly as serious so that UWS teams opt to participate, or at least might participate in a top-to-bottom cup at least.) Instead of the USASA Open Cup, let's call it the National Women's Challenge Cup. I don't care if it's run directly by USSF or run by NWSL, though the latter gives a little more leeway to qualification as NWSL could make decisions without needing the lower-level leagues to officially be ranked.

    NWCC idea 1: flat entry
The first round of this Cup would start right at 32 teams and be a straightforward knockout tournament from there. All NWSL and all UWS teams get direct entry due to them both being small leagues, while WPSL picks/qualifies teams for the remaining slots. If this were to happen this year, it would look like 10+11+11 for the NWSL/UWS/WPSL split, which is very even. However, as NWSL and UWS expand, this would squeeze WPSL out, and they would certainly complain about less representation. Heck, they might complain even in a 10+11+11 situation since 100% of UWS teams get in while only around 10% of WPSL teams do, which wouldn't be "fair" if they were both second-division leagues. This idea also excludes all amateur teams that only participate in local/USASA leagues, unless you wanted to further squeeze out WPSL.

    NWCC idea 2: tiered entry
This idea requires NWSL and UWS to expand a bit beyond where they are now, because if you space the leagues' entry rounds, you get the awkward situation where you need 6 previous-round teams to join the 10 NWSL teams, which means 12 teams in the previous round, and there are 11 UWS teams at the moment, so that clearly wouldn't fly. But in this format you could have all the qualified amateur/USASA teams enter first, then throw in the qualified WPSL teams next round, add all UWS teams either with WPSL or in the next round, then add all NWSL teams a round (or two, as necessary) later.

Both ideas assume all NWSL and all UWS teams are auto-qualified, (which works well right now since none are in Canada,) which I mostly prefer. I guess we could have a NWCC where you have 4x8 between NWSL/UWS/WPSL/USASA, which might be simpler for now, but I'm not as big a fan of that...

Anyway, wild wishing rant over. I'll keep my eyes on the five-day USASA "Adult Soccer Fest" this July, hopefully we'll find out what teams are going before June.

At the moment, three USASA clubs appear to be registered for the Women's Open this year, including 2015 Open (and 2014 Amateur) champions The Olympic Club of San Francisco, CA. Don't recognize the other two, though there might be a passing chance that United FC (GA) is the same team as Cobb United FC (Atlanta, GA) from the 2014 Amateur competition.

Three weeks later (and about three weeks until Late Registration closes) and no extra teams have been added to the competition... Seems like this year it'll be the smallest it's been we started having semi-reliable information (in 2008) and maybe* the first year with absolutely no DivII teams since the W-League was founded.

It's even in Denver this year, would've been nice to see either the Pride or the Storm show up as local DivII representation.... They both have league games on the 15th, though. Maybe RSL?

I'm guessing the DivII shake-up has made most of the teams that regularly participated opt to focus on their regular leagues for now.

*None of the finalists in 2001, 2002, and 2006 were from the W-League or WPSL, but I have no info on the semifinalists or on qualification from those years.
