The Timbers said he was a citizen when they signed him, but they might have meant he was a greencard holder.
From American Soccer Now, Restrepo is lining himself up to be the #2 keeper for Venezuela: Diego Restrepo, the Venezuelan-American goalkeeper, is returning to the United States with hopes of joining a MLS club for the 2013 season. He will train with D.C. United. The end goal is to find his way on to the Venezuelan national team. “I think if I go back to the U.S. and play in MLS, I think the opportunity to play for the Venezuelan national team is going to be there just because they really don’t have anyone right now,” Restrepo said Tuesday evening by phone from Venezuela. “Renny Vega was their starting goalie, and now he doesn’t have a job. Dani Hernandez plays in Spain, and he’s become the number one, but really they don’t have a number two, number three goalie, so I think there’s a chance to fight for a spot there, and I think I just need to get minutes to be able to prove myself."
Gerson Mayen, Richard Menjivar, and Derby Castillo are on El Salvador's squad for the Copa Centroamericana
Mason Trafford is on the Canadian squad that will meet the US and Denmark later this month. Fuad Ibrahim is with Ethiopia in the African Cup of Nations.
I wasn't familiar with Trafford so I went to get some details. US born, Vancouver raised, UNLV for college. He's been in Finland with IFK Mariehamn for the last 2 years, but looks like he is seeking new pastures.
According to mlssoccer.com's "Gringo Report", there's a Bolivian-American who was capped by Bolivia, Alejandro Melean - who plays for Oriente Petrolero
Fuad Ibrahim is on the bench for Ethiopia's ACON match against Zambia. ESPN lists him as "Abdus Ibrahim".
I am not 100% sure what Bouna Coundoul or Dipsy Selolwane's status is, but they played in the last AFCON. Before that there was Bakary Soumaré, Abdul Thompson Conteh, Reda Johnson and American by marriage, George Weah!
A quick scroll through their backgrounds shows Reda Johnson might have the best case, depending on how "American" his father was.
I got a chance to see the replay and Fuad came in during the 4th minute of added time and was probably on the field for 25 ticks of the clock. The announcer mistakenly identified him as US-born.
Davide Somma, South Africa Paul Rachubka, England (youth) Will Yarbrough , Mexico (has been called up, hasn't played yet)
I looked up Somma and found he wasn't happy with the USMNT, saying this back in 2010 when SA faced the US: Johannesburg-born Davide Somma, whose parents moved to America as he was 12, was originally keen to represent the United States at the national level. However, he never managed to achieve this dream and following his call-up for the South African national team, he has one thing in mind: to punish the USA. “The United States didn’t show much interest in me, so I’d love to get on the field and destroy them,” Somma boldly stated in his first interview with South Africa’s media. “I’d like to impress all South Africans with a decent performance and get one over the US for the way they messed me around and didn’t show much interest in me.” He only spent about 6-7 years in the US including playing at Tyler JC before heading to Europe on his Italian passport. No idea if he ever got citizenship
Here's another I stumbled across: Daryl Ferguson (born 4 June 1985 in Lanham, Maryland) Barbados Currently on Fredericksburg Hotspur in PDL Made one full-team appearance, in the 2008 WC Qualifier against the US (8-0 loss - he scored an own goal)
Ernesto Jiménez born 28 June 1989 in Miami Has made 2 appearances for the Dominican Republic (last in October 2011)
Mason Trafford came in late in the match in today's 4-0 loss to Denmark to earn his first Canadian cap. The two teams met in Tuscon, Arizona.
Cirilo Saucedo is in the Mexico squad that will face Denmark in Glendale, AZ on Wednesday at 9 eastern. Game will be on Unimas (Telefutura). DC United's Nick DeLeon was called up by Trinidad and Tobago to play a road friendly against Peru on February 6th.
Brent Latham @BrentJavan Derby Carillo debut for El Salvador here in Copa Centroamericana today, @EricWynalda10 should be proud. Gerson Mayen also on field for ES.
This just in: Steven Goff SoccerInsider Nick DeLeon declined the T&T invitation. Has never been to the island(s). Honored by call-up but not going. #dcu #mls
More from DeLeon... http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/wp/2013/01/28/nick-deleon-declines-tt-call-up/ He confirmed he is waiting for a US call-up.
