It's still a bit early, but with the Carolina Challenge Cup coming in less than 5 weeks, the roster should be coming into shape soon. All I know so far is that Patterson is on trial with the Red Bulls.
There is another trial this weekend. But typically we are still signing players into March and April. the final trial is the weekend before the CCC and I imagine we will have several players on a "extended" trial playing.
the Cubans are worth a bet and maybe a couple from CofC. John Wilson might go one more run. Jose starting season with San Jose. Colin looking around too. The two African center mids.
Scratch Tony Donatelli off the Battery roster, He just joined Kyle Hoffer in Tampa. official announcement coming down soon. someone must have some money they are throwing around down their!
Hopefully John Wilson stays on the team for another season. Having him on the roster is invaluable. Sad that Tony Donatelli has moved teams. He was my favorite player other than Patterson.
Tampa are funded by VSI, thus they have tons of cash and no need to make money anytime soon. Mister Obvious, Which José is starting the season with San José? And by San José do you mean the MLS Earthquakes? - Mark
Tyler Mueller posted something on Facebook the other day that made it seem like he would be back this year. He did a pretty good job and I'd be happy with him at right back. Mike
had a chance to swing by the trial the other day and the two Cubans outfield players looked very good. There were a couple other players that may get another look at the invite trial mid February.
none were at this trial. this trial was mostly guys on the fringe. a few will get invites to the trial in February which is the invite trail. There will be a few from the last pair of trials plus one or two more that Auggie has scouted at other trials, plus some MLS and USL players. I imagine that group will be about 30 or so. out of that group, i imagine about 15 or so will be given an a couple week long contract and given a longer look during the week leading up to the and during the CCC.
I imagine DeSilva has been on Auggies radar for sometime DeSilva is on the USL Combine list (as were Ferguson and I understand Lundy got a confirmation letter as well, but his name wasn'tt on the initial list.
It will be interesting to see which players come on loan with the new agreement with MLS in effect. The Battery have done a lot of player moves with the Sounders. DC United is the closest team to Charleston, they might send some players on loan.
Colin Falvey on his way back to Charleston today after his trek through South America. Paterson on his way to trial with NY
Confirmation via Sounders Beat writer that both Jose Cuevas and Cody Ellison are currently on trial with Seattle Sounders. Also pretty sure I saw a photo of JC Mack at VSI Tampa Bay trials posted on their FAcebook Page.
W What's the deal with VSI Tampa? I read that this group hopes to bring MLS to the area? I guess they got lots of money. Where will they even play there home games? Also Pittsburgh's new stadium is very nice. If any one hasn't seen it, they should check it out.
De Silva was not picked in the MLS draft even though he seemed to be rated highly in several of the mock drafts. Many thought his foreign status may hurt his selection.
Four Charleston Battery players have been invited into pre-season camp with Major League Soccer teams. Midfielder Nicki Paterson is training with the New York Red Bulls, Jose Cuevas and Cody Ellison are in camp with the Seattle Sounders and winger Ryan Richter is training with D.C. United.
