If the league would actually convey some information, that would end. I say you might as well have fun with it.
I think Merrit's tweet tells us more about who the coach isn't. Parlow lives in Chapel Hill with her husband, and aren't her initials technically CC? Her previous coaching experience is with u13-u18 players, a marginal skillset for coaching Nat players. Chris Petrucelli and Chris Peterson also share the initials. The BigSoccer challenge is to find some more CP's.
Cindy Parlow Cone's account RTed a tweet that implied she was moving to Portland. Let me see if I can find it.
https://twitter.com/cone_cindy At this point, it's the second tweet down. I know there's some way to do this using is not a valid tweet id tags, but I forget how that goes. Let's see if this works. <p class="js-tweet-text"> The fact that my favorite coach in this world <a href="/cone_cindy" class="twitter-atreply pretty-link" dir="ltr" ><s>@</s><b>cone_cindy</b></a> is moving to Portland <a href="/search?q=%23sosad&src=hash" class="twitter-hashtag pretty-link js-nav" data-query-source="hashtag_click" dir="ltr" ><s>#</s><b>sosad</b></a> </p> ETA: No, not really, but I'll bold the part germane to this thread.
I think it is a good choice. With success here next stop could be major college head coach or USWNT coach. She certainly has played at the highest level, and is coaching at the top of division 1, which is pretty good soccer (open for debate, probably), for sure she is coaching pretty good soccer players, and it seems she has the right "pedigree." I seem to remember at the end of her stint with the Nats that April would not put her and Abby on the field at the same time. Me, I would have figured out a way to play the Twin Towers.
How do you know Cindy wants to play a 3-4-3? She's not Anson. Anson former players, now coaches do not play a 3-4-3.

Here is what Tony Diccico said today: The Timbers hired another coach with little experience and high hopes. John Spencer was a good guy, too, but he didn't have the requisite experience to put a team together. Timbers fans have gone down that road. Parlow likewise has NO head coaching experience at the senior level. I hope she meets Tony's expectations, but to succeed in Portland she will have to put together a team that plays attractive soccer and there is nothing from her playing days under April or her coaching at UNC shows she can do that in a system that doesn't use the 3-4-3 and subs. Maybe her coaching classes worked. We'll see. I would have preferred an experienced head coach.
I'd be ticked to death if Anson came. he at least has shown he can win at any level. What we are getting is a six year volunteer assistant coach, according to her UNC BIO.
really? did Anson retire or something? What does Bill do? the UNC coaches page doesn't even list her. http://www.goheels.com/SportSelect.dbml?SITE=UNC&DB_OEM_ID=3350&SPID=12982&SPSID=667902
CP will be missed in NC. Both at UNC and the area youth clubs. She ran most of the UNC practices this year (published reports say so if you don't like to rely upon anon posters). Also, if you don't think she knows anything about the ability to pass or be creative with the ball, well, you didn't truly paid much attention to her playing days. Or notice her coaching. But the UNC hate will always show up. Will be a good opportunity for her and the team. I think both will benefit--potentially a lot. Tangent Insisting on using her as a "tower" was a mis-use of her skill set. Just b/c she's tall doesn't mean she should have been used as a Dunc Ferguson (or Abby Wambach) 'put it on their head' player. At any rate, concussions ended her playing career. /tangent
Sometimes the internet doesn't tell you everything. And sometimes you have to look more than surface deep because the internet updates. Anson's wife, M'Liss has had some fairly serious heath issues this year which were mentioned (casually) during the broadcast of the NCCA cup. And Anson missed practice time b/c of that. CP ran a lot of practices.
Mea culpa, I should have said using Abby and the WNT #6 all time leading scorer at the same time. They certainly would be imposing together. ......btw my use of "tower" was not supposed to imply having two target forwards.........note my use of the phrase: 'figure out a way' ... I'm thinking of the way Christine Sinclair played on the WNY Flash, more of a withdrawn forward that kills you if you don't pay enough attention to her (or even if you do).
Get a grip. When somebody criticizes, you try to trump with the hate card at first opportunity. Its a sad old ploy. give me some points on why she is the best choice as a head coach. I just pointed out she has no head Coaching Experience (for about the fourth time, now) at the senior level and you can't refute that so you go for the hate argument. It just doesn't seem like she has Professional coaching credentials. I think the Timbers organization could have done better, or at least would know what they were getting. As a Timbers fan, we went the inexperienced well loved assistant route with John Spencer. he had passion and was well liked also until he couldn't win. I think fans still like him. he just made too many mistakes as a coach. He at least had experience as an assistant at the pro level. I hope Merrit hasn't made the same mistake twice. When Diccico says she will learn a lot, it says she has a lot to learn. I hope I isn't at the expense of the team. I am less concerned about what she learns than what brand of soccer she teaches and how she leads. Its about the team. I guess I just didn't picture the Thorns as a training step for coaches. It's a done deal. lets hope you and Tony are right and she will do well. She is our coach now. I want to be optimistic. Maybe I am ranting out of ignorance. Tell me why I should be optimistic. Just exactly what brand of soccer will she coach? Will it be compatible with our hopes for where we want the Nats to go?
...and where ownership wants the Thorn FC to go. Do you think maybe these points were covered in the interview(s) and reference checks?
