"WHO ARE YOU PEOPLE?" was the question our orange-clad group kept hearing from regulars at the Redondo Beach Boardwalk's Naja's Place on the eve of MLS Cup 2011. The impromptu gathering of roughly 50 Dynamo supporters drank, sang Dynamo anthems, and partied until last call. We're doing it again. More Drinking. More Singing. More Orange. THEY HAVE A LOT OF BEER "12 beers on tap?" This isn't an airport pub. "24 beers on tap?" Go back to Washington Avenue, sissy. "Wow 40! That's a lot" You're not even half-way there yet. 88 BEERS ON TAP. That's more than Flying Saucer. SPECIAL: $1-OFF "BLACK" BEERS FROM 8-9pm Normally they don't do specials on Friday nights but the owner hooked us up with a little get-there-early incentive. A pint of any beer written in black on the dry erase board menu is $1-off from 8-9pm. FOOD Naja's has a kitchen plus there's place a mile away called Weeman's Chronic Tacos. Seriously. DIRECTIONS From The 405, exit Crenshaw go south, turn right (west) onto 190th. When you get to PCH. Go under the King Harbor sign. This will put you on Catalina. Turn right onto Pacific. When Pacific ends, you will be in front of a toll booth. Enter parking lot Turn right to go down one level and park. Naja's is on the Boardwalk. If you need a more-or-less accurate headcount, I'm in for 2. (Not on facebook, so I don't think I can rsvp there. Yeah, yeah, I know. Your modern world confuses me.) And thanks for organizing this!
The band was drunk too and kept giving us a shout out after we ran all the rest of the customers off by chanting, CULERO CULERO! lol. I was three sheets, so there's a possibility that there was not a band at all.
I live in the area and it's a great place enjoy. If you are hungover the next morning go to Eat At Joe's and order the John Wayne Special. When he berth his boat in Redondo he used to have it for a hangover cure. I will describe. A tortilla topped with home fries, two over medium eggs topped with Spanish sauce and surrounded with sausage pattys. Look it up on Yelp. It is on the corner of PCH and Carnillian
Yeah the Friday night before the cup was so much more fun than the game. Lots of nervous energy. We were excited and we were most importantly...together. I can't wait to have more fun on Saturday night instead of Friday night if you know what I mean.
If it happens, I'll probably freak, then knowing me I'll do something to piss him off and a new celebrity will add me to their shit-list. It's the Leo-thing to do.
Finding the place was an adventure, but it was nice to see folks. Thanks again to everyone who organized.
Levy26K, by the way you worded that...I'd say you had a good time. ;-) I had a blast last night. It was great to see some bigsoccer peeps like Ponce. Very cool night. Time to head to Home Depot Center. C'mon Dynamo...let's keep it all business like the entire playoffs. Time to spoil the lil masturbatory hype.
It was an honor meeting some of y'all at the party and others around town. It amazes me how many people yell out, "PONCE!!!!", then start talking to me like we've been friends forever. I wouldn't have it any other way. If I could give every single one of y'all a hug, if I didn't already when we met, I would. There's an open invite for everybody if y'all are ever feeling like you need a few laughs, a pint, or just somebody to talk to, as long as I'm around...it'll be my pleasure to speak to y'all. Don't hesitate in messaging or adding me on Facebook or sending me a Tweet.
