the semi's SHOULD be Mex vs CRC & GUA vs PTY, as was stated all this week on espn, concacaf.com, etc etc .. but oh well that's concacaf for you, changing sh-t as they please.. regardless, both games (crc/gua, mex/pty) should be good.. tho, i'm confused about this whole Panamericanos thing, and who of the remaining 4 teams qualify..
Congrats Guatemala! History was made. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVbtJZ893fM&feature=player_embedded"]YouTube - Resumen Sub 20 Guatemala vs USA (goles, ultimos minutos y celebracion)[/ame]
Mexico is already qualified as the host. Apparently there also has to be one team from Central America and one from the Caribbean. The top team from each region qualifies, so Cuba is already qualified as the best finisher from the Caribbean. Central America still has to be decided in the semifinals. The last team qualified would be the best finishing team that is not one of these, regardless of region. It's damn confusing, but that's CONCACAF for you. But essentially one of the semifinalists will not qualify for the Panamerican games, since Cuba already has the one of the 4 places.
I guess with the US out of the competition Mexico and Guatemala pose the biggest treat to their opposition. what you guys think?
Mexico 4 - 1 Panama Guatemala 1 - 2 Costa Rica The final match will be Mexico vs. Costa Rica, while Guatemala and Panama play the third place match (which will decide who qualifies for the Pan American Games)
Well that seems about right to me. The Two best Offensive and Defensive teams in the Finals. Mexico with 15 GF & only 1 GA (+14GD) & Costa Rica with 14 GF & 2 GA (+12GD).. I don't know who's going to win, both teams are talented and either one can win. But personally I hope that the outcome will be the same as the two friendlies we had back on March 8th & 9th. Guess we'll find out on Sunday..
First robbery of the match....not surprised that smug piece of shit Fernando Schwartz is saying Campbell wasn't fouled in the area. Don't understand why the Venezuelan commentator is scared to disagree with him all the time. Mexico 2 Costa Rica 1 This match is most likely over...too bad the ref had to help Mexico because they have a sick team.
We'll both disagree since it's both our teams playing eachother (i saw a penalty and you didn't but we're both being bias )...but it's all good since both teams are playing a good intense match for a U-20 match. Hopefully Ronald Gonzalez subs in Diever Vega for Felipe Chavez and stops being a bitch because Costa Rican soccer is better when we are offensive and not defensive.
Mexico is the deserving champ....they were able to stop Joel Campbell and Minor Escoe with ease...and they also beat us twice last month in 2 friendly's in Mexico. This Mexican team looks really strong IMO. This better show our FED that we need solid friendly's before the WC if we want to have a strong team like we did in 2009.
Penalty imo Regardless, Mexico is a deserving champ Controlled the game after a brief 10-15 minutes were the ticos looked very dangerous
For those who enjoy great saves and goalkeeping. Panama's Melgar probably the best GK of the tourney despite a bad performance in the PK's Guatemala's García with an awesome save at m. 1:43. And obviously the PK save. [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCVjvd6fXeE&feature=player_embedded#at=111"]YouTube - 4.10.11 U-20 Highlights - Guatemala v Panama[/ame]
Before the match, most of us in the Mexico forum were concerned with the formation our coach was using, a 3-4-3, and how vulnerable we would be against Campbell and Miller but I was certainly surprised your coach didn't take advantage of the wide areas, especially given the quality and speed of your attackers. Credit also goes to Villalobos (#7) and Orrantia (#8) who did very well in tracking back and helping our centerbacks close down quickly on your attackers. The most interesting part of the match for me was the battle between Enriquez and Tejada and while Miller and Campbell are excellent prospects, I think Tejada is a stud and would make a great partnership with Celso Borges. I think these three Costa Rican kids could/should move quickly into the senior side. Mora also seems to have a high ceiling. Too bad the match lost intensity after Mexico scored the third. Congrats to Guatemala, Panama and Costa Rica.
Mexico are deserved champions, they had good ball movement throughout the tournament and embodied true team cohesiveness by moving up and down the pitch as one unit. The team's high confidence was also evident by their display of long range shooting in the later stages of the tournament, with some note worthy candidates for goal of the tournament.
Were there any individual awards given to players at this competition? Usually youth competitions have a Top-scorer, MVP award, MV Goalkeeper etc.
Is there anyone living in the United States, knowing how to download a stream from ESPN3 and who could help me out? I'm desperately searching for the full games of USA U20 - Panama U20 and Guatemala U20 - Panama U20. http://search.espn.go.com/panama-sub-20/videos/6 ESPN3 has them, but it is restricted to US viewers. I know that concacaftv has the U20 games, but the USA game isn't working and they have only highlights of the Guatemala game against Panama.
Mods can we Rename this to Mexico 2013? https://twitter.com/CONCACAF A USA Costa Rica Haiti B Canada Nicaragua Cuba C Jamaica Panama Puerto Rico D Mexico El Salvador Curacao Why not 3 groups of 4?
