Fraser and Vanney and apparently the whole technical crew are gone.

    Truly disappointing ...

They should really drop the Chivas part and just be Club USA. They could even rebrand to Team America to ride the coattails of the successful NASL team, just like the Cosmos!

How along until the Mama Goats send their backup coaches/players up here to show us gringos how it's done?

This team will exist to develop players for the Mx NT. It is a feeder club for Mama Goat. Success in MLS is not their goal.

Aren't they even failing in that too? What a cluster.

You realize they have no Mexicans on their roster and Chivas GDL doesn't hire non-Mexicans?

But there's chatter right now about changing that to hiring players only of Mexican descent, not just Mexican citizenship.

Don't we still have those pesky laws prohibiting employment discrimination on race or national origin?

We may in the US. But Guadalajara doesn't seem to have any trouble.

I don't think the "feeder team" matter depends too much on that. It's more a question of who they'd be scouting and developing in the US.

But truth is we're all just conjecturing here. Not that I expect the reality of this team's future to be very promising either way. In fact, I'm on record suspecting that Vergara will sell the team to a new city for a handsome profit once the league hits 20 teams.

It was really not that long ago that Chivas fired Preki for his poor performance in the playoffs...

Amazing to think this team at one time supplied the US WC 2010 team with its manager, two players and one player who just missed the cut.

I'm sorry to be pedantic but isn't Chivas USA plural? Like Toronto Maple Leafs?

    So shouldn't it be
'Chivas USA Fire Just About Everybody'

What a load of crock. Chivas broke that rule, and has continued to quietly do so, years ago.

Whatever happened to fielding only California (or was it LA) players?

I believe originally it was a focus on Hispanic players. Then it turned into those in LA, followed by California, followed by "f**k it." But at the beginning of this season they did say they wanted to focus on getting players from LA.

If you're going to suck anyway you may as well limit yourself so you can keep deceiving yourself and blaming it on your selection rules.

Given how they played last season, are we sure there was ever anyone running practice?

Last year was when they decided to go after SoCal players only. I thought it was hilarious because they decided to do it right after passing on Benny Feilhaber (who went to HS in Irvine and college at UCLA) from the allocation order.

What's so confusing to me is that plenty of Mexican league teams are already mining the U.S. for good players of Mexican ancestry who won't count as foreigners on a roster in the LMF.

And they're taking the really good ones back to Mexico to be in the Academies.

So this "SoCal" plan of Chivas USA is supposed to capture the ones who want to play professionally but either refuse to leave home or aren't good enough to?

I agree that it will be more convenient for many of them, but the better ones will wind up like Funes Mori did a few years back in Dallas--thanks very much for the award, now I'm off to Argentina (or, in this case, Mexico).

There's no "pacto de caballeros" ceding SoCal or even just L.A. to Chivas Guad, so we might see Chivas USA identifying and developing players headed to either the mothership or another LMF team. CUSA becomes at best a gatekeeper in this scenario and not a final destination.

Furthermore--players like Miller Bolanos or Oswaldo Minda are good enough to be on some of the weaker LMF teams. So if Chivas USA is going to spend more money on international players, by definition they have to be non-Mexican, because Chivas Guad would never let a Mexican version of Miller Bolanos leave. We keep coming back to that same conundrum.
