Matt Welch @mleewelch So it takes until 10:35 for CNN to talk much at all about how Mitt Romney is winning the popular vote & how that's a bit weird. radleybalko @radleybalko Medical marijuana passed in MA, is still surprisingly close in AR. Legalization still leading in CO.
Obama up by 0.3% in Florida with 9% of votes remaining, Miami-Dade at only 70% reporting and he's up 62-37 there. Looks like Billy Clinton got the job done in Florida. Obama owes him. And his wife.
Minnesota for Obama. Which will be the big story of the night...the Tea Party costing the GOPs, what, 5 senate seats over two cycles, or the Latino vote?
He did quit smoking for a good while. Also, he likes gin which is predominantly produced in Obama supporting Britain. Juice similarly relies on both the Latino immigrant population and imports, demographics that see Obama as an ally.
Speaking of Puerto Rico (someone spoke of Puerto Rico, right?), their election indicates they want to be a state. Anybody want a new Republican, heavily subsidized by the Feds, state? I bet the Senate doesn't.
[Sheen]Winning[/Sheen] Todd Akin's concession is pretty fun. There was a comic that had a bit about how athletes never blame God when they lose. "We would have won until Jesus made me fumble." Just sayin'.
Que? Puerto Rico would be a conservative state? Does not compute. BTW as a former longtime DC resident if PR gets representation before DC I will be outraged.
Random thought: would the objections to voter id go away if you could vote by using an ATM or ATM-like machine that was easy to use and would give you a paper receipt (or via e-mail, as my ATM does)?
I've begun to think that the Dems should give in on some broad form of voter ID in exchange for early and uniform voting standards.
If anyone is sober enough to do this, you should put the website domain for Unskewed Polls up for sale on Amazon. I have a feeling that blog is gonna die...NOW!
Maryland's (Question 6) is 51.2% for and 48.8 against with 52% precincts reporting. Huffington Post seems to have the most comprehensive coverage of state ballot initiatives. http://elections.huffingtonpost.com/2012/results/
As a person who objects to current voter ID laws, I don't think that's necessarily the answer. That said, the objections will go away as voting practices change. It was more about the method and timing than the idea. I think we're probably about 12 years away from a big change, but they're on the way.
Before anyone thinks this is a parody, the reality is that there truly are people this extremely misinformed and stupid.
IF obama wins (don't want to count my chickens, i remember waking up the day after an election and bush was president) -- my husband is freaked out and will probably remove his obama bumper sticker for fear of punctured tires, keying etc. i'm thinking of putting up a sign that says suck it bitches. am i just asking for trouble?
