Season ticket holders get the shaft when SKC offers coupons sometimes. No time is more blatant and upsetting than the fundraiser a local school has with its coupon books.

I have been a loyal season ticket holder for much of the last decade. I understand the perks. But those perks have slowly been dwindled. That is definitely a topic for different discussion.

The coupon I am referring to comes from an "Enjoy the City" fundraiser coupon book. It has over 60 pages of full color coupons to use around KC. It seems a pretty good value for $20.

Page 45 is SKC page. It has 12 BUY 1 GET 1 FREE coupons for East Stand, or West Stand Goalline tickets. The LA and NY games are excluded, as well as playoffs, friendlies and USMNT games.

12... so lets do some math.

If I chose to get season tickets in the east stand, that's $540 ea. Let's say I get 2. Total $1080. Over 17 games for 2 tickets that comes out about $31.76 each for 17 regular season games

If I chose to get all the regular season games using these coupons, that's $420 for 12 games with 2 tickets, plus 5 games of 2 tickets at full prices ($35 ea) = $350... so $350 + $420 totals $770 using those coupons, or $22.64 each ticket.

I feel ripped off. Let's add up some benefits then, to make it a bit more square...

    a STH scarf = $20
Open cup games included on STH were what, $15 per seat x 2 games? === $60
Stoke = $60 (though I am pretty sure there was a coupon available for that too)
Other International Game = $60 (I think there was a coupon too)
    -------------
    Total: $200 buying the bonuses + $770 regular season games = $970
Even with all the bonuses, the coupons + buying all the bonuses gives a coupon user a $110 savings over the STH.

Again, I feel shortchanged. I feel like a cable subscriber or cell phone subscriber who doesn't get the same deal as the newbie. I understand that there is a feeling of comfort having a guaranteed spot for each game, but still...

    I'm confused...

    1 season ticket = $540 for 17 games, so $31.76 per game.

    12 tickets @ $35 each = $420, + 1 free game = 13 games for $420. Add 4 more at $35/game = $140. $420 + $140 = $560, or $32.94 per game. Right? Or am I missing something.

Seems like season tickets are still the better deal...

You get 24 tickets for the price of 12, not 13. So, yeah, you could save roughly $100 for 2 people. And lose out on getting the same seats for each game, not having to worry about sell outs, options on your seats for playoffs, etc. Not to mention the fact that you're counting on there being similar deals every year and go to the back of the line if you want to get season tickets again in the future.

I know which I would choose chose. If you feel differently, maybe you shouldn't renew your season tickets.

I completely understand this post. At B1G1 for the east stand. It would be cheaper to buy the exact same seats using the coupon offer than buying the entire season. Throw in the Ticketmaster fees, and it's still cheaper. Although your math seemed befuddling at first, it's a real eye-opener. Regardless of which section this coupon offer is for the B1G1 offer is still cheaper than paying the STH price.

i'm just surprised that skc would even have this sort of offer for so many games considering all the sellouts we've had and are likely to have in the future.

    I thought that, too...

Either way, I see a business opportunity here especially with demand so high

Is this for this season or next season? I'd imagine this season since next season we probably won't play LA at home.

The other thing I could think of is that they would only have a certain number of tickets per game they would sell for this BOGO offer... so while it's theoretically possible to get 12 games BOGO, the reality would be that you could only realistically get a handful... and that they limit the cost of the coupons on the organization as well.

    Just a theory

With all of the season tickets, 12,000+ There won't be many tickets left to use the B1G1 coupon most likely by design, it is advertisement that someone else printed up, plus the community support PR.

As a season ticket holder in the Members stand I know that I can scalp 1/3rd of my tickets and get pay for the rest of the season. I don't because that defeats the purpose of going to see the games. Scarves, pins, season ticket parties are old news for me, I just want to go to the games. I guess the only perks that I really care about are 1) first acsess to tickets, 2) better parking. I don't care that someone got a better deal than me for a ticket. Good for them, and bad for me that I didn't do it myself.

In this instance I see it as a reason not to buy the book rather than not buy season tickets. I go that covered already. Ask yourself this question, If this book existed before I bought season tickets would I have bought my season tickets? If you answered yes, then you know what you should do and give up your seat, someone might be looking to upgrade or expand.

If you are upset anyway but still bought, then think what you can do with the situation. Does your kid have a soccer team? Buy two books and double the savings. Or you could scalp your tickets for face value and make 190 bucks . Or trade down and sell your tickets, bring someone to the game with you. You will even make money on the deal. Apply it to your season tickets the next year and start thinking of your seat as a time share rather than your spot. Use this book as a way to subsidize your soccer addiction.

You may end up spending less money using the coupons but for me, having my own seat that I know will be there waiting for me each game and being a ST member is worth the extra money. Using those coupons sounds like a giant pain in the ass because you are risking not being able to get a ticket because of a sellout, you may get stuck with a less than ideal seat, or you may not be able to find a block of tickets together for the amount of people you want to bring. The piece of mind of just having my own chair in the stadium for every single game that occurs is worth the extra money for me.

In business, companies will always offer deals to attract new customers. It's just the way it is. I think Sporting has done a good job of offering benefits to existing customers - more so than a lot of companies do.

    Midwest, the real one.
I really don't think this is about selling tickets or getting sellouts. I think it is about getting into different segments of the population and getting them interested in trying out the product. While there may not be limits on this offer, I doubt many people will buy the whole season with this coupon. They are just trying to cultivate a more diverse fanbase and making it easier for fence sitters to indulge their curiosity.

That's exactly what it is. It is about reaching a new market and providing them a discount to get them out to the park. If it is being sold as a school fundraiser, it is about reaching families and providing them an affordable entertainment option. Existing customers are not the target for this kind of discount. The goal has to be to get them to use the discount and them come back time and time again paying full price.
