Ronaldo did not take any such drugs especially to "become such a great player". Ronaldo was a born fenomenan. And further, all players are subject to extremely strict random drug testing proceedures. So Ronaldo would not be so stupid to risk his entire carreer.

After years and years of speculation, Ronaldo's weight is finally revealed ... 260 lbs !! :p

Seriously though ... he is participating in a weight losing segment on Fantastico to try to get into a healthy shape. He is seriously 260 lbs (118 kg). A few interesting tidbits from the program:

    - Ronaldo admitted he used to skip the stress test given to players in pre-season.
    - From the program, it doesn't look like he is taking whatever medicine is meant to control his hypothyroidism condition.
    - To lose weight, he will have to cut alcohol and fat from his diet.

I saw that Fantastico also. It was really something seeing Ronaldo that heavy but at least he is doing his best to try to put it under control and Ronaldo is doing something about it. I am confident that Ronaldo will loose weight and live a long, happy, healthy and very financially succesful life in new business ventures.

If you look at his back and shoulders, he still has the built of an athlete. It's his stomach that is huge. I loved when the doctor said that the reason for his stomach is fat and alcohol ! It's a good thing he is not waiting too long to do this. I am just surprised that it doesn't look like he ever started taking any medication for hyperthyroidism.

Here is the program if anyone is interested.

    Ok, just finished watching it.

He really does have alot of MUSCLE under his fat. It really is mostly in his stomach. He just needs to lose that weight, because he has muscle. Even if he loses the fat too fast, he still has a ton of muscle left over that won't hurt him to lose a bit either!

He looks like a competitive body builder in their off seasons. They gain alot of weight in the off seasons on purpose.

You get it on Globo Internacional on DirecTV or Dish. But I believe you have to pay at least $20 a month for that one channel. The program is called Fantastico and runs on Sundays. It's not really a reality show like biggest loser, it's just a piece within a variety news program called Fantastico. I will post youtube links if I can find subsequent pieces as they appear.

Off topic, but for those that are interested I remember watching this report from Fantastico about improving youth detention centers. The conditions are fvcking shocking. I couldnt believe those in charge allowed that shit to go on. The link is to a globo article and the video is inside.

I know he's not the most liked amongst Brasilians.... but I would love to see him back on the field again! That would be awesome if he could shed the weight and maybe give playing pro another go.... doubt it... but would be cool!

Even if he loses weight that is completely unrealistic. His knees would probably buckle. When he retired he mentioned it hurt going up stairs.

Hmmm... I wonder what it could be? I have knee issues also.. maybe like me, tendonitis of the patella tendon? He completely ripped it too right? On his first injury?

Losing weight FIXES alot of issues...

It always shocks me when you see professional athletes go from having good physiques in their playing days to turning into fat blobs. Look at Steve Bruce, Maradona, imagine Wayne Rooney in 10 years.

Its not shocking at all when you think about it. I've noticed it big time with ex-boxers also. They train intensely their entire careers and their bodys are used to taking in large amounts of calories and utilizing them. But once they retire and stop training, its natural to put on a lot of weight if you dont greatly adjust your eating habits.

yes or no .. you are right on "normal" people. Some got like a sickness ... and can not hekp .. (Ronaldo got a weird "fatness" retain in his body while his metabolism was so low. He gotta train (exercise) hard and take medicines (with some side effects) in his latter stage of career (2005 onward) .. At times after 2002, people thought Ronaldo ecersies hard to get muscles ... to beat DF? NO, he did that to overcome the fatness ... (since muscles slow him down and takes away his agility in dribbling ball control)

I heard different. Rumor was, Ronaldo had TERRIBLE eating habits, with sweets... and the whole thing with him having issues with his 'thyroid' which is what you are mentioning... I don't think could be it.

Remember when he lost a TON of weight and it all just came back? I think it's more about him than anything else. He has all the resources to stay on top of hishealth...

I am not really sure how hard he tried. The comments he has made in the program he is on to lose weight make it fairly obvious he had bad habits and used to get away with a lot in the teams he played on based on his name.
