    Hey, it's week two already.

    Georgetown 1, FGCU 0

Freshman Brandon Allen with the late winner for Georgetown. In spite of the loss, you've gotta love FGCU's ambition in scheduling a lot of out-of-conference big boys.

    Boston U 1, BC 0

No Charlie Rugg in BC's line-up, and I guess they needed him.

Game not as close as score. Hartford scored with about 45 seconds left in the game. On a positive note...Hartford set the NCAA record for most long balls in a single game.

    From the DU website....

"It was a good test for us on the road, and it proved we can play with any team in the country," head coach Bobby Muuss said. ... UNC Charlotte out-shot the Pioneers 24-3 and held a 13-1 advantage in corner kicks.

I didn't see the match, but judging by those stats, it seems UNC-C was pretty dominant despite being only 4 seconds from losing this match.

    UC Davis 0:0 CSU Bakersfield

Davis played even with #17 CSUB. Aggie defense swarmed Gyasi Zardes whenever he had the ball. Toward the end, both teams seemed to be satisfied with the draw.

I was at the charlotte game, and Denver did not get close to proving that they could "play with any team in the country." The match was as lop-sided as the stats indicate. Charlotte hit the post twice and had two balls that were cleared off the goal line. Denver tried to play soccer for the first 20 minutes of the game, but were unable to connect more than 2 passes from then on out. I will say that Charlotte had several unforced giveaways, and lacked patience when going forward. I'm not convinced that they are the top 10 team the rankings say they are, but are definitely a top 25 team.

    Villanova 4, Stony Brook 1

On paper, this is year a where Villanova's traditionally lacklustre program has the potential to move up in the world. So far, so good.

UCSB ties @ Oregon State 2-2. I only listened on the radio, but sounds same as last year to me... lots of possession, good number of shots and opportunities, but occasional sloppy D by my Gauchos.

Notre Dame 3, San Diego St 2

Ryan Finley with 2 goals, Harry Shipp with a goal and two assists. Not sure why Bobby Clark is continuing with the oddball decision not to start either of these guys.

UNC beat West Virginia 1-0. The defense is where it should be, only allowing one SOG. The offense is still figuring things out since losing Enzo, Urso, Shuler, Speas, Lovejoy, but that's expected as well.

Creighton 1-1 Zips after first OT session.
Zip's Quinn scores a legit goal on a nice through ball and the idiot AR flags it for OS 8 mins into OT

That was one of the worst offside calls in the favor of the defense I've ever seen. And the AR was in PERFECT position, which is pretty rare at this level.

Somebody over at zipsnation.org did a great job getting a screen cap. Turns out he was held on by fully 3 Creighton defenders and there's no way in hell the AR was blocked from seeing the deepest defender. He just thought he needed to call something because no one should be through that cleanly on goal...or something stupid like that.
