Wasn't able to watch this one, but it sounds like Gervinho was a disappointment. At what point do we consider him a flop? He obviously isn't quite a Park or even a Chamakh level bust, but he seems to be a pretty one-dimensional player whose only real asset is the ability to deliver the occasional ground cross. If our problem right now is that nobody can bury shots then maybe we should be playing Ox or Arshavin instead. I think they're both a bit more versatile and dangerous around the goal.
What is the consensus on Jenks today? He didn't have a whole lot to do, but he didn't make any glaring errors. I thought he had a pretty decent game.
He had a solid game, he defended well and had a couple of strong defensive headers. He is a work in progress.
He was good in my opinion. Went down the line when necessary. Not as many back-passes as last week. He was happy with himself (as proven by the first pump when he tackled one of the stoke players. He positioned himself well and used his speed when needed.
After two games its already apparant the work Bould has been doing with the squad. We had a clear tactic in dealing with goal kicks to Crouch i.e putting Diaby on him every time while defending throw in's and corners also saw a very set structure. Even our corners, while delivery was poor today look more practised. Im happy with the early signs in our team set up, something which I openly criticised and called for a change in last season. Our attacks look the same as last year, the only difference is that RVP is a world class finisher and we dont have that any more. Special mention for Arteta today, he was immense. But for him Cazorla wouldnt be able to do his work to such effect
Having Gerv and Theo with regular minutes is duplication and overkill. I much prefer Gerv because Gerv is the only one in the squad who can beat a mark, whether it's on the counter or dug in. Theo has more football intelligence than Gerv but not enough to help matters. I think we're in a real hurtbag here because Theo's contract situation puts significant pressure on us without any real good answers, or at least obvious ones. I wonder what's going on with Ox that he can't get a start for us. I'd love to play him in lieu of Diaby or Theo/Gerv.
Me too. The main reason to go for an upgrade for a position there is if somehow we don't think Bac will ever recover 100% from a broken leg. I haven't heard any reason to think that. Jenkinson is not a great player but he's doing what he's supposed to do and his presence on the teamsheet is not hurting anything.
attack killer. didn't have to defend anything other than 1 or 2 crosses. wait till suarez goes at him 1 v 1.
Whaaaat?? I never thought I'd see anyone run the ball out over the end line more than Theo...queue Gervinho. Theo, for all his inconsistancy has shown far better end product, Gerv cant even get his head up and squandered numerous good opportunities to pass into the box today and last week. He has a hell of a lot to prove before he is more deserving than Theo
Boy, a commentator went out of his way to say something positive about the Arsenal, and you're criticizing. Usually everyone around here is complaining that the commentatorati have only negative things to say about us.
