I apologize for my mistake. But I can't blame anyone for not getting behind the Red Bulls when they have done nothing to encourage people to come to games, espacally outside of NJ. The Red Bulls have built the best stadium, but as other soccer stadiums in the US have shown, people don't keep coming for long.
The Red Bulls have spent a lot of money. They have built a 200 million dollar stadium. One area that they should have spent on is the ads. Most of the publicity Red Bull has done is for the drink, not the team. The long time fans of the Metrostars/Red Bulls deserve a lot of credit, they have gone through a lot, from having some of the worst FO officals the league has seen, to cheap publicity stunts like a big name soccer star signing being a F1 driver. They have had it a lot worse than I have.
He lives in Forest Hills..I live in Woodside and if I take the Path..its 2 hours ..NJ Transit..cuts the time by a half hour
You're obviously telling the truth, since everyone from NY calls the subway and train system "the metro".
Forest Hills.. My nightmare journey that night was ( leaving in 75th minute of match) Walk to Path.. got first train that came ( 5 min wait ) stop a journal square announcemnent on Path train that this train was not going any further and we would have to transfer to next train . Waited on platform another 10 mins for a now packed Path to 34th St in Manhattan. transfered to F train at 34th and it went local in Queens.
*your not alone, my father moved us from Queens to Seattle in 1977, he also moved our Yankee hatred along with us. We've become huge Mariner fans, but my Yankee hatred originates from that Dodger/Yankee rivalry that my father grew up with. I'd love to see the Cosmo's come back, and it would give me a great excuse to come back to Flushing Meadows
Ok So I should add another 35 mins to my trip ? Such an expert on the NYC area "Metro" would know that it would be a bit easier to just transfer to the Path at 34th.
Fair enough, but barring track work or some tourist getting pushed under a train or something, the trip from Forest Hills to RBA should take between 1 and 1.5 hours. http://goo.gl/maps/RgPx5 I'm not suggesting that you bathe yourself in tetanus and join the Garden State Supporters or anything, just saying that 2.5 is an exceptionally long trip to the arena. Ironically, from where I live it'll take longer to get to Flushing Meadows than RBA, even though it's much closer.
No - you also have to figure out the walk to the train station - which for ed is anohter 20 minutes Again - the problem with Google maps is that it just assumes you go through the turnstyle, a train is there. You get off, go to the connecting train...and its there...you go to the path...and its there waiting for you. I recently flew into newark and actually had a pleasant experience of catching the transit and the two subway trains RIGHT AWAY - like No wait - at most 1 minute - and it still took m an hour an a half. Given not every time you jump on the subway you are that lucky - especially on the weekend when train schedules are limited - you know there are wait times. It used to take me an hour to an hour an a half to get from my house growing up to my high school in Jamaica Queens - that included bus waiting and train waiting..but if you plugged those addresses into Google Maps it will tell me that it should take 40 minutes. I know Forest Hills very well - I know eds commute - im sorry but commuting is the agony of many NYers - and having someone look at the internet and tell them that their COMMUTE SHOULD TAKE THIS LONG and imply they are lying..thats ********ing frustrating man. Because you are right - it SHOULD take that long...but it doesnt.
I'm not some slack-jawed tourist who doesn't know his way around the metro FYI Google actually uses bus and train schedules, which are pretty accurate, but they don't take into account things like construction or police investigations. And I'm not suggesting that anyone's lying; it's just that if he does that trip 10 times, it shouldn't take that long more than once or twice.
If done right this could work pretty well. If it's the Cosmos they'll already have a solid fan base from the start and will draw new NYC soccer fans. The Red Bulls will still probablly keep their current loyal fans and they might become New Jerseys official team drawing some on the fence Jersey fans (may even want to consider changing the name to the NJ Red Bulls). You can even even have the matches between the two at New Meadow Lands Stadium and probablly fill up a good chunk of the stadium.
i hear ya dude and i know you live in BK - and im venting at you but your not the problem. Im tired of the - its only 15 miles and google maps says 30 minutes. Every part of the city has a different commute. In fact, many people in this city dont live on a train line. So you have to add local buses or walks, which could be 20-30 minutes. I just get frustrated at people saying it should take this long and it should take that long. ******** - i wish they were right. I, and probably like you, deal with commuting every ********ing day and the subways and busses man..well they can stress the hell out of ya.
I visited NY in 2005 and one of the things that struck me were the taxi drivers beeping their horns as soon as the lights turned green. I guess if i was going to be stuck in traffic that long id be a little impatient as well !! I did visit New Jersey as well (as part of a Sopranos TV tour) and quite enjoyed it. Im looking forward to visiting the NY/NJ area again next year, if the Formula 1 GP is 100% confirmed.
Thats just it man - i would gladly drive an hour - 2 hours in wide open road any day of the week - i love road trips. Did cross country, did FLA But sitting in NYC traffic (and i imagine LA being just as bad) but sitting in bumper to bumper traffic with taxies beeping cutting you off - bikers not looking - it drives your mental state crazy. Now, if your a had working NYer from Monday to Friday dealing with the stress of everyday life...do you want to get back in the car and deal with this on your weekend? Or deal with the stress of the hot subways, delays etc? Again - i know it does not sound "right" but i know plenty of born and raised NYers who are on this side of the river and most of them dont want to be bothered with that shit on the weekend. And these are some people that would totally go to an MLS game with their family and friends. And those are the people the league is looking for- not the 15 of us on Big Soccer - they know they have us in their stadiums one way or the other. If not full season, we get out to a few games a year.
I'm from Jersey. I don't like anything about NY, especially their sports teams and fans. I don't like the fact that RB in called NY. Should be NJ.
