The replacment has to be either Sahin or M'Vila. I'm hoping it's the former.

We should have bought BEFORE we sold another starter. Still wondering why Barcelona waited til August to unsettle this player, we should have told them to ******** off and come back in May. Now every player knows that if they want a move all they have to do is raise their hand.

That's becoming my biggest problem. We need to say no to someone successfully for anyone to take us seriously.

I think this is Wenger kicking Song out the club more than anything else.

Does that make a difference? He started 46 games for us last season and had absolutely no one ready to stand in for him. Now he's in Barcelona and Arteta is our DM? What a ********ing joke.

on other forums i am hearing that some of these transfers have to do with a certain agent...any truth to that?

Arteta put in a better defensive performance today than Song has since 2009. Thats not hyperbole either, he was better.

If he was being a problem during preseason, which it appears, then Wenger just rid of him. Im cool with it as long as he is replaced in numbers.

Can give a rats behind about barcelona.

Christophe Mongai? Thats his agent, not Darren Dein.

Arsenal fans need to leave Darren Dein alone.

We'll have to see how that works out against a team that actually attacks.
I'm not holding my breath. If he was a problem we should have brought in his replacement already. Now clubs know we've got a fresh 40 million in our pocket and won't be listening to our lowball offers.

Song had problems defensively with teams that didnt attack too.

maybe Wenger decided to give it a go and see if his attitude changes in the preseason. Then it got worse and told him to peace out?

if we cant bring in the necessary players then I can see the anger, but right now its all in the ar.

Our starting lineup today included one holdover from the XI that started the League Cup Final against Birmingham (Szcezeny). One more of today's starters (Gibbs) was on the bench that day. Three others that started that match would probably be in our first XI today if healthy (Sagna, Kos, and Wilshere). That's a lot of change in just under 18 months.

Agreed. I still think there's a reasonable chance our squad this season could be much stronger than it was last year. Even if the transfer window closed today, I'm a lot happier than I was last September 1.

i really think Wenger got tired of these pu$$ies he bought and has overhauled the team. A lot of us asked for this back then too ironically. Now its happening and people are mad.

I don't see how you bed in 3-4 (assuming we actually replace Song) starting players at the same time and actually compete for the league. I don't expect the team to gel until winter and then maybe put together a cup run. It's a shame, i thought that we were actually strengthening this year and we're ready to make a run for the League. Instead, we're pocketing more cash and are looking at another scrap just to qualify for the Champions League. First game of the season and Wenger has already thrown in the towel.

I'm mad that Song wasn't replaced already. The DM spot was a weakness all last season and his replacement should already be in the squad.

Kos has played DM for France, he is defensively minded, would be able to cover Verm when he bombs forward, and is a smart player. Why haven't we considered him at DM for matches where it makes sense to have a CB pairing of Mert and Verm?

And what if that 'agreement' to bring in Sahin once Song leaves materializes?

I'm all for this move. Song didn't want to be here anymore and I'm glad we moved him as soon as we got a deal (just about) worth his value. Does it leave us weaker? I could see Arteta filling in just fine as he has a better sense of positioning than Song and I expect him to get plenty of help from Diaby/Wilshere and Cazorla in front of him. Besides, as we saw today, the majority of teams in the league will park the bus and Song did as much contributing to our opponents' cause as our own in those situations.

Apparently, Barca have set his release clause at 60 million, so i guess that means they got a 75% discount. But hey, he told Wenger he wanted to leave, and as you know, that alone slashes a players value in half.
