Wambach is a jerk in my book. For the famous CK in the 117th minute of the WWC Final, she twice joined the Japan huddle (Sawa, Miyama, etc) while Solo was down injured - for what? To offer BS of course.
It is a consoling memory that a minute later Sawa powered her aerial volley into the net - with a slight deflection off of Wambach herself.

Don't try this angle. Most neautrals even agree that the USA benefitted way more from her officiating than we did.

Whine about it all you want, it is truth. I watched the game here at a bar with a bunch of people, when the Canadians got away with something it was "Good No Call!" and such. After the game all the "Good No Call" comments were forgotten BY SOME and it was a biased ref. Tancredi stomped on a downed US player, Tancredi also threw a vicious elbow to the head. Not a single card for her play. But we have to believe the ref was biased instead of incompetent during the match...and why?

Because she gave a penalty that allowed the US to score a goal in a game where they scored 4 times. You can be a bad fan all you want and sadly our players refused to shake hands after the game as well. But it is silly to think the game was called one side.

what is wrong with canadians when it comes to sports?

    • they boo our anthem at hockey games, (yes, you start it)
    • they boo our anthem and teenage hockey players and actively cheer for Norway and Russia in Vancouver at the world junior championships several years ago
    • they boo our anthem at an MLS all-star game
    • on hockey message boards they deny the greatness of the "miracle on ice" at Lake Placid 1980 out of pure jealousy.
    • you host the winter olympics and buck with tradition and severely restrict access by other countries to the venues in the year leading up to the games to try and increase home-field advantage in an unprecedented move never seen before by the host nation
    • you build a extra demanding luge course and deny access to said luge course as per your policy and a Georgian Luger is killed at the games

I mean it just turns you people into total a-holes.

    Such an Inferiority Complex!!!

    get over yourselves.

if canada is less skilled and more physical and the ref lets them play, how in the world does that not benefit the neaderthal-team?

you guys are trying to play soccer like you play hockey - like a bunch of neanderthals.

and Tancreedi should've been out, you should've been playing an extra-time game down a player. but it's all a big conspiracy.

How's that tinfoil hat fitting canada?

Laying it on a bit thick don'tcha think Non dairy creamer? Not quite as eloquent as the South Park song. I can see why many Canadian fans think they were jobbed on the McLeod infraction. If the shoe were on the other foot many American fans on these very forums would be singing from the same hymn sheet. The ref never had control of this game. But I don't really agree with some of the conspiracy and bias claims a few of the dejected Canadian players made afterwards.

This was a fantastic moment for US hockey, no doubt. I don't think any educated Canadian would disagree with that. Having said that, Canada didn't really start sending their best players to the Olympics until 1992, same with several other countries. Between the regular NHL Season & The Canada Cups, the Olympics was an afterthought. While it was an absolutely incredible achievement and did more for Hockey in America then probably any other single event, most of the best players in the world simply weren't there. I don't think it's about trying to deny the 'greatness', it certainly was a miracle at the time, just putting it in context. It would be like if Canada won the Womans World Cup and the Americans sent their u17 team.

Well to be fair the Soviets did send their best team and the Americans were college kids. Sure the Canadian NHL'ers may have trashed them both but it was the Cold War so don't take away our moment! :(

Yup, the Soviets definitely took the Olympics seriously. Again, not trying to say anything negative regarding the feat (when it comes to Hockey, nobody hates the Soviets more than us, so thank you for taking care of them), just shedding some light onto why some Canadians may not consider it to be the "be all and end all" of international hockey achievements like some make it out to be.

Truth be told, I'd argue that the US winning the 2004 IIHF World Juniors did more to establish America on the international hockey stage then the "Miracle on Ice" ever did. Anyways, back to the topic at hand. :)

Really? If the ref and her assistants had been doing their job properly, Canada would have been reduced to 10 players with one of their best off the field in the 55th minute with the score even at 1-1. You don't consider that a wee bit of a benefit for Canada? Perhaps even a game changing moment?

At least with the 6 second call, folks are arguing about the ref's exercise of discretion, i.e. that she should have declined to penalize Canada for what was, in fact, a violation of the laws because it is very rarely enforced. And the handling call is, at least, a debatable call. Canada, on the other hand, got away with an indisputable red card. One's position about who benefited more from poor officiating will always involve lots of speculation (but for that crappy call ...) colored by individual bias. Claiming that "we" (Canada) got screwed worse than "you" (US) is a bit untenable here.

and our best were a bunch of college kids from Minnesota, Massachusetts and New York?

Your best players weren't there because pro's weren't allowed, for you or us,

The US's best players weren't there either.

    Like canada would've beaten them!

were you not allowed to play? did canada boycott the 80' games? where was canada?

oh, I get it, you didn't take it seriously so you didn't win. Sounds convenient.

If you notice, I went out of my way to be respectful and applaud the achievement, and instead just offer some insight. I'm not really sure why you felt the need to reply in such a patronizing and 'we beat you - haha' type of manner.

took them seriously? are you serious?

the soviet Olympic hockey team consisted of officers in the soviet army whose job it was to play hockey, 6 days a week, 11 months of the year (they got July off). It was their job as commissioned officers.

how many americans even know what the world juniors are let alone when they're held, and if we've ever won it let alone in2004? there is hardly any coverage of the games in the states.(the t.v. coverage has varied over the years but always sucks)

if patently laughable that you would even suggest that an underage tournament played during and christmas/new years holiday with little t.v. coverage in the states would be that noticeable to americans over the Miracle on Ice.

your ridiculous responses prove my earlier post about how canadians deny the greatness of the moment and are simply jealous of the success because it's supposed to be "your' sport.

    Not a Canadian but...

She does appear more lean than last I saw her. She was a beast (though underused, imo) when she was w/ WPS teams but also injured more that the average player during that time. And some genius (forget who) thought they'd try to make a defender out of her at one point, too.

eta: No way do I think Sinc should be suspended for the bronze medal match. Tancredi did stomp on Lloyd's head but since no ref on the field saw it, I don't think anything should happen for that at this time. And it would be too much salt in the wounds for my taste.

I don't know newsouth, you seem to do a pretty good job of blowing perspective out of the water when it comes to the US so I doubt they would even bother. ;)

I read a bunch of dumb posts from both sides but this one is easily the dumbest post of the day.

I'm Canadian and was disappointed by the ref. She wasn't in control on the game and clearly wasn't up to the task. She missed a bunch of yellow cards, should of had the Canuck goalie in check for time wasting long before the "controversial" call.

The Canadian women should of kept their myths shut and prepare for the bronze game.

Good luck to the USA from your allies and neighbors up north.

Look at what I actually wrote, you are taking bits and pieces and rearranging them for the sake of starting an argument. Why? I'm not sure, perhaps it's entertaining for you.

Anyways, this is what I said. I will even bold the statements you question, to make it easier to understand for you.

Above, I am talking about the effect on American hockey, from a DOMESTIC standpoint. Quite clear. Coincidentally, you are making the exact the same point, yet somehow failed to notice when I said it. Strange.

Here, I talking about the effect on the INTERNATIONAL hockey community. I am well aware that the IIHF World Juniors are not a big deal in America, outside of a specific hockey centric minority. That doesn't however, mean they aren't a big deal in international Hockey circles. Other places do actually exist, I know that might be hard to believe.

Please note: a yellow and another goal kick is the penalty for time wasting on a goal kick. Time wasting on a punt (i.e. ball is never out of play) is an indirect free kick.
