Did you EVER watch WPS and take part in discussions about the officiating there (largely underperforming male refs)? Do you watch women's international football otherwise? Because if you do, your "commom sense" argument just makes even less sense.

You got me...SECRET SEXIST ALERT! Alert Jezebel!

The refereeing this whole tournament has been comically laxed. Right hooks, drag downs in the box, handballs missed, horrible offsides calls, letting them play very physical, the inability to control a game... I don;t what it is, maybe I should been more specific that the women referees in THIS TOURNAMENT are not as good as the men's.

But I have seen enough women's soccer to see a difference. Just my opinion. Sorry.

No way, a player from the losing team complained about the refs. PROOF OF CONSPIRACY!

Did the ref make the Canadian defenders forget how to defend with 30 seconds left?

And that is why you should always post a link when you put stuff up like this. :/

I may be reading you wrong, but my summary of what you seemed to be aiming at with your elliptical sentences is: you've seen stuff, though you can't specify what. It in any case leads you to conclude that all female refs are crap (or at least crapper than the men). But it's not gender stereotyping on your part, honest.

    Well, that's at least clarity.

If the ref really had decided b/f the game that she wanted the US to win, there are easier ways for her to give them an edge w/o the wackiness w/ the idfk. And the tackles flying around by everyone gave her plenty of opportunities. Opportunities she decided not to use so I'm going to pass on the whole ref conspiracy to get the US the win thing.

that emotions on sinclair's part. it was the 6 secs and air ball that gave them 2 chances to get 1 goal. and those calls were back - back without a thought from the corrupt ref. that sequence should have never happen. you don't burn these women after a hard fought match like that. let them decide the game. ROBBERY!

I know it is emotion on Sinclair's part. She got a freaking awesome hat trick and still did not win the game. It has to be devastating. She should get "best of the tourny" award (golden ball if they do that for the Olys? do they?) But still. Cards could have been flying out of that ref's pocket in the first half and weren't. And by could have, I mean really should have.

I didn't defend the officiating. Likewise, I didn't take a one-sided stance in my post. Try again.

There are terrible male refs. In the 2010 men's World Cup a flying boot to the chest got merely a yellow. A ref in this Olys let a team get away w/ pushing him when they were crowding & angry about a call. There are terrible male refs. There are good male refs. There are terrible female refs. There are good female refs. Their gender plays no role in foul recognition nor willingness to call a proper game. Many of the male refs I see ref women's games are poor. They either allow rugby matches to break out or they believe any little touch is a foul. It's even worse at the youth level. That said, there are some good male refs reffing women's games.

You are doing something similar to if you were saying "All Norwegians are terrible refs b/c I've seen several terrible Norwegian refs" by linking two unrelated things (gender or ethnicity of the ref and their ability to ref).

Well I can understand Sincy's disappointment, I don't blame her for that outburst. Well its on to the United States and Japan game, I have no favorites here, though if Japan wins gold it could be looked at as karma.

Epic Canadian performance- played all the soccer 3 wonderfully constructed goals - world class ball movement at times - US played their predictable dump and chase - using aerial supply. Very predictable. Shame the ref had such an influence- bizarre calls off the get go - really not up to the standard needed for both teams.
Time wasting call was really a poor call - and penalty if that was one so was the one earlier against Rapine.

In the end soccer won - women's soccer won.
The gap is narrowing and look out Herdman's crew will be back - with younger sharper and more talented players next time - and US will play same way again -but it will be different result.

You can't hold Christine Sinclairs statement to heart much everyone.

she knows if she wants to be regarded as the best in the world she needed a championship..and she put in an absolutely AMAZING PERFORMANCE..scoring a hattrick, literally putting Canada on her shoulders...against USA..

And it still wasnt enough to get it done in the end.

She's probably thinking there's just nothing else she could do.......

if pia goes, i wouldn't say that. the better ball handlers can't even get caps. i don't like them but when they reload they'll laugh canada off the field. the current team is a reflection of pia, not the true talent they have sitting in the wings.

    WNY MVP during the WC

All World Forward who is out scoring Marta in Sweden

    Legit Rampone replacement

    They all have zero caps.

    Hagen
    Henderson

    The list goes on, buddy.

Yeah don't get me started on Melissa Henderson. I personally think Pia is myopic, she only see's what she wants to see. Henderson is a FAR better player then Sydney Leroux, yet Pia will never take a look at Henderson. Henderson has size, speed and vision. She is a great distributer, yet Sydney is getting that covetted spot on the USNT?

To me that is a crying shame. I love the way Melissa Henderson plays, the USNT is shooting themselves by not bringing her onboard. There really needs to be new leadership because Pia is stuck with the old guard.

And Christen Press? She may have scored a ton of goals in her NCAA career and had a decent season with the WPS, but there is one thing she is not, and that is a creative player. She needs another forward or midfielder to help create and open space for her to take advantage off. In the NCAA championship game, Melissa Henderson outplayed Press by a mile, and Stanford came in undefeated and touted as the champions.

Someone said Pia likes the old Norway direct attacking style, so Baby Horse, FullBach and Run Sydney Run fit the bill, as far as her game plan goes, a walking header and two downhill runners.
