Can the Crew beat a revitalized DC United squad challenging for top of the east in consecutive matches despite its uneven play? If they do, what complaints will Olsen come up with after the match? Will large sections of concrete fall from the aging stadium onto the pitch? Tune in to find out.DCU has not played an MLS match since its defeat at Crew Stadium. DC hosted a friendly with PSG last weekend (1-1). They should be well rested. The Crew have not had a 3 league match winning streak in the 2012 campaign.
This is no joke. I was there last weekend for the PSG match - "Allez Paris!" That place is an absolute shit hole. I had not been in years and did not realize how bad it had really gotten. The pitch was in terrible shape as well. Crew win by 1, unless of course Arrieta has a bad day of practice and Bobby starts Schoenfeld up top by himself.
Tuesday injury update from MLS, no surprises here: COLUMBUS CREW -- OUT: FW Tommy Heinemann (L knee surgery); GK William Hesmer (R hip surgery); MF Kirk Urso (R adductor tendonitis); DF Rich Balchan (sports hernia rehab); MF Bernardo Anor (L knee ACL tear); DF Nenamja Vukovic (L ankle sprain); QUESTIONABLE: MF Danny O'Rourke (L ankle sprain); MF Milovan Mirosevic (L adductor strain); PROBABLE: DF Chad Marshall (R ankle impingment) D.C. UNITED -- OUT: MF Lance Rozeboom (L knee ACL tear); DF Robbie Russell (L plantar fasciitis)
I really think we need Milo back, but I'd much rather have him healthy for the home stretch than rush him back. The length of our list just seems unfair...
Considering we've got a bit of a winning streak going, we should expect a similar lineup, right? Who replaces Grossman in the starting lineup: Mirosevic, O'Rourke, Tchani, or George?
Good question. I am guessing Tchani. Unless Mirosevic or O'Rourke are 100% I would sit them for this one.
Sticking with my consistently inconsistent theme. To be consistent the Crew would lose because we won at home and like with SKC they split the Home - Away games. To be consistent the Crew would lose because we have not won 3 in a row yet. To be consistent Arrieta would score a brace or Birchall will score again and win. I going win by one. Josh Williams with a brace.
I do enjoy watching this rivalry. I hope we pressure their defense again, it rewarded us well two weeks ago. I would like to see Mirosevic if he is available but I think Tchani would be fine in the middle of the park.
Crew looking good as of late, but we've had our fair share of problems at RFK. I'd like to see Bobby grow a set and start Milo if he is healthy, but most likely we will see Kevan or Tchani. 1-1 tie, goals by Dilaver and Pontius.
lurking the DC thread for this game... Fair play, we have some amateurs, but for even thinking of a statement this stupid & uninformed, DC will have a giant bag of hubris dropped on top of it. 4-0. William Tecumseh Sherman style. Scorched earth. Total war. Renteria head butts Olsen at the end of the match.
I'm not sure there's a single person on this board that would rate those 3 as our definitive top 3 players. Go figure. edit: That said, props to fans around the league for noticing how good Williams has been.
Updated Crewster Point standings going into the weekend. A win or draw moves us past the scum into a projected playoff position: EAST New York 8 Houston 7 Kansas City 4 DC 3 Chicago 2 Columbus 1 Philadelphia -7 New England -7 Montreal -9 Toronto -14 WEST San Jose 11 Seattle 6 Salt Lake 3 Vancouver 0 Los Angeles 0 Colorado -5 Chivas -7 Portland -14 Dallas -17
Fair play? Reminds me why I used to hate DC so much. Morons. Marshall? I guess a 2 time MLS defender of the year isn't MLS quality? Maybe not. He may be ABOVE MLS quality. Hammer should have made the all-star team. Gaven. Duka. Miranda. Birchall. James. Yeah, there are some weak links (Vargas, Schoenfeld), but there a lots of MLS quality players on this team.
According to this, O'Rourke and Milo both back in full training. http://www.thecrew.com/news/2012/08/crew-looking-ninth-point-three-games-trip-dc Good news, though I'd definitely be more cautious with Danny.
