This thread is going to be to discuss any other games in MLS. This is a result thread so read accordingly. I just saw an opportunity to start a thread for this. First things first. Alan Gordan!?!?!?!?! Again!?!!??!?! This guy is on a mission this year. Have to give him props for finally putting it all together but hope he fails miserably against us if we meet in the playoffs.

Looks like Van was able to pull out the win today so it looks like we are approx 4 pts back from 4th dependent on seattle winning at least one of the games they have in hand on us. I want that third place position but want the team to try and shoot for 2nd. With the type of form this team is in right now, I hope that it will continue throughout the year and we can keep moving up the standings.

I think for now we should continue our target of reaching 3rd and skipping the play-in game. Once we reach that goal, then we can look at moving even higher....

    :)

So I think right now the reasonable expectation is we need to make up 4-5 points on Vancouver and Seattle to grab that coveted 3rd spot...

Totally agree with this. I want to avoid that 1 play-in game that's essentially a crap shoot. We reach third, we can start thinking bigger. But right now - third is the game.

    Portland - yikes.

And I hope FCD's win was a mirage. We need them to be crap this weekend.

Wow, the Red Bulls picked up Tim Cahill? How are they going to fit all those attacking pieces together? If he can slot into the AM position that could mean that Henry doesn't have to create as much and can just focus on making a hole in the net. Adding to an already stacked offense and being in first place makes it seem like they are going for it in the stretch run. Hopefully if Barrett does move on to Norway we are also able to make a move of our own, especially with all the freed up space we have created in the last couple weeks.

That's exactly where he's going to go - he'll sit behind Henry and Le Toux. Those three up top could rival our three.

MLS Cup Final of NY vs. LA is now the league's wet dream (as if it wasn't yesterday, but it even more is now).

Wow Cahill in NY. Look at the thread about it in N&A and compare it to when we got Keane. Everyone was threatening us that we better win the cup or we are flops and now everyone is just happy for NY.

I wouldn't have it any other way. I love Cahill and Everton and I just feel so bad that he has to play on a team that will never win anything.

That's the way it is though. They are a team without any silverware. People haven't seen them become a juggernaut but become the crazy, rich friend. Spending money here and there without having a concept of team building. They are like another team in their city, the Knicks. Once they start winning some silverware then people will start to resent them.

I'm with you though, wouldn't have it any other way. It's great that so many other teams fans hate us, it means we matter. For a team with our ambitions, growing that hate is what we want to do. As a comedian once said, if you don't have haters you need to get you some. Haters let you know you are doing the right thing.

Trust me, if they start to win stuff, we'll all hate them.

I really like the Cahill pickup. He's definitely still got the quality for MLS, he's a hard worker and I just don't see him being a bad addition. Probably the only person who can muck it up is Backe, who needs to find a way to keep his best players on the field and hasn't always shown the ability to do that.

Completely agree with this. Also think they need to get rid of Marquez asap.

Cahill was garbage last year and hopefully he continues that form with NY.

And on top of that they were trying to get Kaka instead? Holy shit, they would be absolutely stacked on offense if that went through. I thought RM was asking for at least 10M euros for him though? Even though I would hate for him to go to another team I love the idea of trying to get that guy into the league. Even though I just started following soccer around 2007, the evolution this league has undertaken has been astonishing. To think that we had a chance to bring some of the guys into the league that are here now back then? I can't wait to see where this league is in 5-10 years. Especially if our youth development continues to improve, the sky's the limit.

If Kaka goes to NY im sorry but might as well give the Cup to them this year cuz Ny is STACKED like hell, their youngster are nice on the ball too, LA needs to drop barrett and Buddle and get a big time player to help LD and Keane.....

Not bad result for the all-star game. I'll take it!

As for our players: Both provided a secondary assist.
Kudos to Becks for arriving, playing 74 minutes, then heading out after the award ceremony. Classy. His long ball to De Ro was also classy, set up Pontius's goal and was classic Becks. Dude's a competitor and he wants to play. Was supposed to be subbed out at the half, and asked to say in. Ben Olsen even said he was irritated when he was taken out (he was joking)!

To be honest, LD looked like he wanted to avoid injury and defend so Chelsea didn't run rampant. He didn't really stretch himself (which for our purposes was just fine). With that said, when he did get the time and space to make a play, he did. Turned on a ball, laid off to Henry, cross to Wondo, goal. Also deigned to make a couple of runs that David and the central midfield *just* missed. His header to Henry for Henry's chip was lovely. He had the absolute beating of Ivanovic when he bothered.

Players that impressed me: Jay DeMerit (hello defensive stud of 2009!), Pontius (that guy has a very bright future and should be in January USMNT camp), Alonso (solid dmid) and DeRo (acted like a captain). Wondo put in the effort up top, and Henry was class. (From the Chelsea end, hello Frank Lampard!)

All in all, the league leaves happy, and other than Collin, no bad injuries.

He was a player I had hoped the Galaxy had on their protection list. Has always been class ever since he has made it to the senior team.

He was very good from what I saw in the game, and was very cool and confident on the penalty

I hope we're looking at Johnny Leveron for the Galaxy too. He's only 22 and is the captain of the Honduras Olympic team. He's left footed plays CB, but can also play LB too. He plays on Motagua, so maybe we've scouted him from our CCL games.

There's been a lot of wheeling and dealing at the deadline today. Columbus signed the "other" Higuain and Seattle sent one of their DPs to Chicago and signed another. It's funny all the hoopla and whining that went on last summer when we were signing Keane and how we were bending the rules to suit us. Looks like at least 2 more teams have pulled off the same type of trade and I haven't heard anybody crying about it.

I just want us to continue getting healthy and continue to move up the table. 3rd looks like it is coming more and more into view. Let the team take it one game at a time. Especially with the CCL about to come up, there will be lots of congestion and lots of minutes for everybody.

Their defense is mediocre. I think if we were to play them in the final with a healthy Omar-AJ pairing, we'd win. Our attack would break through their defense and we could probably contain them to a goal.

Yeah... NY has had one of the best attacks in the league for the last 2-3 years. The problem is that their defense has been crap (much like us this year). They have the potential to win the cup, but they are so inconsistent defensively, that I think the odds are not great. They need to win a bunch of games in a row without giving up many goals, and that has not been their MO.

I can't believe SJ came back against the Fire last night. They were playing so dirty at the end of the match. Wondo was yelling at the refs like crazy, and Yallop got sent off (in addition to Gordon getting a second yellow... although his first yellow was a little harsh). SJ is getting a lot of breaks going their way this year (although they are making a lot of their own breaks as well). I'm not sure they can keep it up through the playoffs. They are, however, the anti-NYRB. They play really hard for one-another and stay incredibly focused. If you combined their attitude with NY's talent, you would have... the 2011 Galaxy.
