It depends on what the intention of "NY" is. "NY" could represent either 1) NYC proper, 2) NY State or 3) the NYC metropolitan area which includes NYC and its suburbs that include nearby counties in NY, NJ and Conn. As for pro sports teams I think it is clear to the unbiased person that the intention is #3.

But when the move to the boroughs DOES finally happen, the BBs will be applauded for sticking with the club even when the situation wasn't ideal.

Thats just it - time for us to buck up and be a supporters club - they seem to be set on MLS and MLS is set on the city - so it will all work out - we will just have a few years of that awkward LI Borough Boys lol

My guess is that they are mainly trying to capitalize on "Brooklyn Dodger" nostalgia by identifying with Brooklyn. You can do this with Brooklyn because of the heritage of the Brooklyn Dodgers. So to answer your question, my guess is that their intention is to identify with the NYC metropolitan area, but in a nostalgic sort of way.

If you want to think that..ok..Teams represent cities..Teams that represent areas usually name themselves that way. New England Pats, Tampa Bay, or states Golden State, California Angels etc..it doesn't mean that the New York Knicks want only NYC to come to games, but they rep NYC

So 1 is the answer. At least the Metros used the NY/NJ in their name and didn't pretend to be solely a NY team like Energy Drink do.

Welcome back Chris !!!! Sincerely I am very disappointed about this new Cosmos in NASL. A true NYC team DESERVES ONLY a first level league.

If you quote me, please put in the full quote. In any case, what I meant is that I think that the name BB will not appeal to LI fans. Perhaps they will form their own supporters group.

If they do - so be it - we will work with them however - we have a group of guys looking to start Borough Boys Long Island.

We also have Borough Boys Germany and Borough Boys UK in the works.

You might be right and others may start their own thing - its cool - as long as we all work together to fill the seats.

Since the names of Supporters clubs are usually a reference to where that group of supporters come from, how would BBs ever be inappropriate ? The Metros had a fan group with a flag that said the "Pocono Firm".. I'm pretty sure the Metros never played a home game in the Poconos . Look at the Tartan Army flags at a Scotland match. They normally say ( insert town city or pub name) Tartan Army.

True. But the BBs goal was always to find a club in the boroughs. I understand if we use the name as a place where we are from, however, I think the whole statement could have some understandable criticism.

Nonetheless, I understand that criticism, and hope the the Cosmos become NYC2 in Flushing...and thus why I am supporting the club.

You are right - it is criticism that is not only understood but deserved.

However, as you said - if the club keeps barking MLS and NYC - we are going to make the sacrifice for them. If they get off that goal - many of our fans will step back. I think they know that too.

If we were talking about being excited about MLS moving to Long Island then you would have a point. But we are talking of supporting a stepping stone to the final goal of MLS to somewhere within the borders of NYC.

But I believe the usual snide remark from an Energy Drink FC fanboy still has no validity.

There will be plenty of them - just have to ignore it and support the movement my man! Like you said - its a stepping stone - and we decided to go with the club on that step.

If they come off the path we all want - most will back down off that step.

It is pretty obvious that Cosmos to MLS in a few years is the most likely scenario.
