Different strokes, they are being nationalistic and soccer is just the vehicle. Love of country seldom translates into following a local soccer team. If that were the case MLS would be in much better shape.

I agree 100%. Just that there are many arguments being made using that logic. And I wanted to show what happens in the Ironbound District of Newark.

lol - thing is dude - making noise now might ******** up the deal - its still early.

The league, the local leaders behind the project are all aware of us and what we want. The Assemblyman on the phone the other day said he wants to work with us...but right now the league wants everything as quite as possible until more progress has been made.

There is a strategic reasoning for this that makes sense.

But to make noise for to have a place in MLS by 2014 and to be therefore ONLY 1 year in NASL is a goal of the Borough Boys ?

There is no offer anyone connected to MLS can make to NYC that they can't refuse.

New York City will be just fine without MLS. If there's a take it or leave it type offer, they will say something that won't pass the BS censor filter.

The approach being taken seems to be working. Going in guns blazing would be the stupidest thing anyone that wants this to happen could do.

They signed a deal with the NASL - their goal is eventually getting to the top flight. I dont think the NASL would agree for one year - i can see NASL for two years.

No Stadium is going to be ready for 2014

I know that no stadium is going to be ready for 2014, but a temporary stadium ( Citi Field ) could be a good solution for 2014.

You do know the Mets play at Citifield 81 times a year.

But they aren't there 81+ times a season.

Citi Field could work as a temp venue - no doubt - perhaps that has been discussed with the Cosmos but maybe they decided NASL is the better bet

We could still see NASL HOfstra for a year or two and then MLS with Citi until Flushing Meadows is ready - still a lot of things that can happen

But when you add in the other things that happen at the stadium ( concerts, off day practices ... ) It shrinks the available dates down even further. Sharing with a baseball team is not even good short term solution.

And aside from scheduling, it's absolutely brutal from a fan's point of view. There isn't a good seat in the house. KC and DCU have tried it and it sucks hippo testicles. And imagine the look on security's face when you light a flare.

    Still better than Hofstra though.

Hofstras venue is good for soccer but Citi is better for location.

STadium is probably still a few years off - so they could still consider MLS as a short term MLS solution.

I mean i would not want to play 3-4 seasons at Citi - however 1-2 is more likely.

Maybe NASL is to build the team, then move to MLS to Citi once the stadium deal goes final.

The stadium is going through the ULURP process - it will be a year or two before it finally gets approval.

Is there really a need to go into MLS prior to the stadium being completed? If the Cosmos end up being the team that gets the NY2 franchise, there really shouldn't be a need to go into Citi as they could just stay in NASL for the year or two it takes to build the new stadium...

Besides the travel problem to Hofstra, the name "Borough Boys" will be inappropriate in Nassau County.

Honestly - from a business standpoint - you would rather get into MLS sooner rather than later. There is more money to be had and also - 2014 all the TV deals expire. IF the Cosmos succeed, it behooves the league to get them into the league by 2015 to help negotiate a TV contract.

They wont have much to negotiate with in terms of ratings of the past but having the Global Appeal of the Cosmos back - could help land a new TV deal

However, a stadium might not be ready by 2015.

If the supporters are from the boroughs then it kinda makes sense.

Well the goal of the BBs is to get a team in Queens and MLS - which seems to be the goal of the Cosmos - so for a few years we will be getting a lot of heat for going to LI - we are aware and its understood and deserve bantering from other fans.

However, if the cosmos show us any indication of being a long term LI deal - im sure many of our members will be very upset. Right now the end game of the Cosmos and their goals align with ours.

We really just want to be a supporters club after all these years.

Foolish me...I thought it was NYC.

If the Cosmos stay in NASL and LI, then it would be FCNY in disguise.

Not any worse than supporting New York when they have never called NY home.

Both stadiums would suck in the long term. Personally I wouldn't want to see an MLS team in CitiField without a defined set in stone exit date for a new stadium. We saw what playing in the wrong stadium did to the Metros and playing in CitiField on an open ended stay would be nearly as bad.

Oh come now no need for that low blow.

I'd be more willing to give them a break and compare them to the Rough Riders if they stay out in LI for more than the short term.
