Best Italian player in the last decade 2000s. It's hard to choose from world class players. All of these players are excellent. We should have won at least one cup from 2000-2004. We had a team that was stronger than Spain.

    By position.

    Buffon
Nesta better club player Canna better on the NT.
Pirlo (Shame he didn't play much in 2004 and 2010).
    Totti (Strong in 2000, 2002 and 2006).

    Overall Buffon and Pirlo.

You can vote for as many players. Totti and Pirlo are tied so far.

I asked myself which of these players would rate the highest in one of those all time world player lists you see on this site. My answer would be Buffon. I think he is one of the top 5 goalkeepers in history.

its hard to pick best italian player, this team plays as a team, its not like 1 or 2 superstars carry them. And each year it seems someone else shines....even each game u look at in each tournament, its different who scores or shines. like who was mvp of this euro 2012? buffon, pirlo, balo, de rossi, cassano?

    too late, i already voted

Buffon - All Time most capped - a true leader

I put Totti second - he does so many things that don't get noticed in stats - same as Pirlo who's right behind him.

You think he's only going to score 4 goals for Italy in the next 8 years?

Pirlo is the best player in the last decade :) Totti is number 2.

I am a big fan of Totti. I still think Italy needs a player like Totti. That was one of our best strength in 2006. Totti and Pirlo are creative players.

We don't any players that can replace Totti. Maybe Cassano. Cassano played great in 2010 and 2011. Cassano was very good in Euro 2012. He created many chances against Spain in the first game and he scored a goal. He also had one assist against Germany. He helped create many chances.

I hope Cassano get back to his form. Rossi can replace Totti too.

If Rossi can ever get back to form he can be akin to a Silva or Villa for Spain, but not Totti. No one to replace him yet...yet :)

Pirlo and Buffon no doubt there

Luca Toni was a beast for several years aside from the NT

Well, on the national level Rossi scored 6 goals. He didn't play in the last World Cup or Euro. He brings a lot of spark to the Italian team. He has speed. He scored a nice goal against Germany in 2011.

I didn't say Rossi is like Totti. I just said I hope he can be a play-maker something like Del Piro Cassano, and Totti.

Can you imagine if we play something like this.

    Cassano- Rossi- Balotelli
    Noncerino- Pirlo- DeRossi

For the national team Pirlo. He was the driving force behind our two finals in 2006,12. Totti had a great euro 2000. Buffon has been quality and Cannavaro for Italy was a machine, 2010 aside.

I voted for Buffon. I reckon that he will go down as the best ever goalie, even better than Yashin, Banks and Zoff.

Pirlo has been our best offensive player. Even on a bad day, he was still better off playing because Azzurri teams looked worse off without him on the pitch. A passing maestro.

Totti was the most talented offensive player but he didn't live up to expectations. I didn't watch most of the Euro 2000 matches because it wasn't on free-to-air TV but he was disappointing in WC 02 and Euro 2004. He did good at WC 06 but he was half-fit so he couldn't produce his very best.

what did totti really do for NT besides euro 2000? which he did kinda screw up at the end of the final game by trying to be cute instead of not losing the ball which ended up in a goal that took it to over time

Four assists at WC 06. Decent but could have been better.
