Brazil is not taking part in any competition until 2014.Not sure how much weightage is given to friendly matches and confederation cup for the ranking system.All other teams will be playing Wc qualifiers and the chances of Brazil falling further down in the ranking is very high. Anyway this ranking system doesn't make much sense especially seeing England at fourth.
The FIFA rankings penalize you for playing friendlies, basically. Since Brazil is only playing them, they will likely drop more.
FIFA rankings are typically a joke (see Ingurland #4), HOWEVER, despite not playing in a competition, the low ranking is an indication that people see our team falling off the map. We owe a big thanks to Mano.
This is an honest question (i'm not leaning towards any answer): in relation to Brazil, how high/low do you think should England be ranked? like, how many spots above/below Brazil? And do you think Brazil could match up well with Spain this year? like, head to head (disregarding the other teams)?
I saw Spain against Portugal and they were pretty bad. Of course nobody remembers that after the ass wiping Spain gave Italy. You are as good as your last game. From the Euro games, I see Brasil maybe having problems only against Spain and Germany and we all saw how both of these coutnries can be completely shut down. And my friends, playing in the Maracana/Morumbi you can bet your ass, that their game will be shut down and Brasil will once again rise to #1 in the FIFA rankings after winning the 2014 Copa Do Mundo.
simple, Brazil is ONLY playing friendlies. Even if Brazil had won EVERY match it disputed, it would still have fallen in the rankings, since wins in friendlies are multiplied by 1 (you multiply the importance of the adversary by 1), while wins in Eurocup or World Cup classification games are multiplied by 2.5
in other words, to keep stable, since Brazil is only playing friendlies that multiply x1 and other countries were playing Euros or were playing World Cup qualification, which multiply x2.5 (in Europe and South America only, other continents multiply by x2), Brazil would have to play 2.5 times as many friendlies as these other countries are playingworld cup qualification matches.
given this seemingly flawed method of tabulating rankings, which do you think is better, the FIFA or the World ELO rankings?
normally I don;t really care ... as both had their points rated differently ... In either case, they show controversy of their own 1- FIFA: Brazil were too low (should be in TOP10 no matter what) 2- ELO: Italy were too low (should be in TOP3,4 by now with latest euro final) 3- in both system: funny that England were so HYPED ... (w/o clear criteria = they played good against weaker teams, but then choked vs real strong teams)
ELO is slightly better than FIFA but personally, I don't care for neither. Both ranking systems are flawed. I could care less is Brazil is ranked worst in the world for all I care.
Just to clear things up - Brazil were already falling before the start of the qualifiers. The FIFA ranking is based on averages, not on sums. The more friendlies Brazil play, the more they will drop in the rankings. They will be 12th next month in a ranking that will have England 3rd.
What could be the reason for this? Please explain (i'm a total newbie when it comes to this kind of statistical analysis), i don't understand how playing more will cause a further drop in their ranking. Average=sum/games played, so for as long as they keep piling on the wins/points, shouldn't this contribute to their score even more?
Bad 2011 Copa America. The best way for Brazil to climb in the ranking before the 2013 Confederations Cup would be to play only against the 1st place in the FIFA Ranking on each official FIFA match date - winning every time. They would get 600 points (assuming the 1st place team is from UEFA or CONMEBOL) that would be averaged with the points in the last 12 months and so on. However, that is obviously not possible - Brazil will play against Sweden, China PR, South Africa and Argentina until October. China and South Africa will bring Brazil few points and will decrease the average (assuming they do win against Sweden and Argentina).
The games they play today are all friendlies which as explained above are wort less than qualifiers and competitions. Every month a ranking comes out old games are dropped and recent games included. So if an old game like a World Cup qualifier is no longer part of the total, it doesn't matter if the most recent game is a 10x0 drubbing of a big team in a friendly, it's still worth less. TLDR: Yeah you gain points when you win but you lose points from old games that don't count anymore and where those were competitive games, those were worth more.
