Its not that far of a walk - i would say 5-10 minutes if that.

Look at the station on google maps - when you walk out of the station - you are right by the Tennis center an the Pitch and Putt near the Avenue of Commerce

I think you're looking at the LIRR station, which is right by the tennis center. The 7 station is north of there, just across the railyards next to CitiField. Still not a bad walk but a little farther than from the LIRR.

im looking at the 7 train station but you are right - in that link the 7 train is a little further but its the same tunnel and lets you out at the same place.

I guess you have to take the bridge into effect too but that bridge would most likely be lined with vendors, sellers, food stands - it could be an amazing atmosphere.

So...the bar question? Why no bars? And where would the march be from?

From what I know there aren't really any bars in the area. Closest ones I can think of are McFadden's at Citi Field and The Pine at the Holiday Inn. McFadden's is obviously closer but The Pine is a great sports bar and restaurant. Only problem is it's a bit far, about 10 minute walk from Citi.

If McFadden's is the best choice, that's pretty bad.

Regardless, I don't seem to care just about the bar. I'll hope...seriously hope...that someone can just put a bunch of long picnic tables with kegs around in a tent.

What took them so long to find this location? It seems like a no-brainer.

There is a little bar on Roosevelt and 114th that I have always wanted to get money together and purchase. There is NEVER any kind of special for Mets games. I went in there recently after a game and there was NO ONE in the place . has potential for the fans that dont want to go to Mcfaddens.

However PC - our best bet is woodside and having a full blown train excursion every week! lol

114th is where The Pine is so it's still pretty much the same distance from the stadium. Woodside does sound good though. There're at least 10 bars to choose from. Also my bus home is right there so it would work perfectly for me :D

This would work in theory, but overall I think it would come up short. I would still rather travel on the train once before I reach the stadium, not twice. If it all comes into fruition, I wouldn't mind trying to convince MLS2 and the parks to put up a tent with kegs.

Just a thought on Pier 40: is it possible that Pier 40 is where RBNY will locate their academy/training facility? They've been looking to build an academy/training facility for some time now and Pier 40 would be a win for not only RBNY but also MLS.

The problem with Pier 40 is that it needs to generate revenue, both to pay for the needed repairs and to pay for upkeep of the rest of the park on an ongoing basis.

Stadiums generate revenue; training facilities don't.

Another thought: Space for NYC2 Academy?/Training Facility? or maybe just an MLS sponsored Soccer Plex?

Lots of options - pure speculation - have to remember, they are still a ways off from completing this stadium though. Im excited but have been so before. Then it all came crumbling down lol

Time will tell and I imagine Garber will be getting a lot of questions on this in the coming months.

Go ******** yourself. As one of those people who spent time on buses up and down the east coast in both the good times and bad.

I'm sorry the metros weren't good enough for you . But they were MY team.

You know what pains me? The fact that there are people in this country who can't see a doctor. Just sayin.

Because MLS never awards expansion franchises to named teams. It's always Seattle 2009, Vancouver 2010, Portland 2010, and Montreal 2012 even though everyone and their mother knows what the name of the team will be. So it's 100% certain that the expansion franchise will be New York City 2013 or 2014, regardless of what the team will eventually be named. I wouldn't read anything into this cityfc.com thing. This is the same stuff that threw everyone off when the Union was being named. I doubt that this means anything except that it kept people uncertain as to whether Orlando City or New York City would be getting a franchise.

And I still don't see why people think that it's more likely for Red Bull, who has more money than they know what to do with and sees sports as a way to promote themselves, to change to Cosmos than for a brand new franchise to group with the Cosmos owners to foot an expansion fee and have a new team with a well known brand to launch with. It just makes more sense to me that the scenario plays out this way.

Especially since another soccer group (a community league in DC) has a federal trademark on "City F.C."

LIRR to an MLS stadium at Flushing Meadow would be terrific for fans from Port Washington, Manhasset and Great Neck, not so terrific for the rest of Long Island.

Do all the trains that run through the Jamaica station stop in Woodside?

No. Read the electronic signs at the platform before boarding. Many go express Jamaica to Penn. Some only stop at Kew Gardens + Forest Hills. If you have a WilletsPt ticket the conductor will punch it and give it back to you to use on the Port Wash train going east 1 stop from Woodside. No extra cost because you are still in Zone 1 (same as Woodside, Penn Sta, Atlantic Term). If you have a ticket for another zone 1 destination you must tell the conductor you are going to WilletsPt and to give you back your ticket after he punches it so you can use it on the connecting train.

I dont take the LIRR - i mean I have a few times but for the most part - i dont.

So you can get from Woodside to Willets Point at no extra cost - that actually is still better than Pier 40 where you would have to get off the LIRR and take the subway at cost downtown.

Still a long way off to be thinking about this though lol

after seeing this news I think that MLS is now on the right track and now I know there is no stopping this NYC expansion team from happening I know for a fact that the parks department dont give 2 shits about that man made pool or fountain that sits there now.. to drain it and build a stadium over it erases a 50 year old eye sore the fact that this project does not destroy trees and actual park land eliminates any resistance from park users park soccer teams environmentalist nuts and any riffs with the parks department.... its a win win situation...

My son plays on field 3 every week and its right next to where the stadium would be....

imagine all those youth soccer teams and adults that play on a saturday at 6 finishing up their league games and heading over to the stadium.

the LIRR Number 7 subway station is less than a five min walk and i do that walk 3 times a week to take my kid to play for Academia Argentina... Its fantastic to set up shop there..

only issues would be lighting and parking.....

The city or the parks department would have to add lots of really bright lights that lead to and from the stadium for security reasons no need for any of our fans to get mugged by crystal meth heads..
rival supporters are going to enjoy the park cause they are going to be running thru it when cosmos supporters are chasing them to snatch their banners....

as far as parking its a situation that has to be looked at and some thing that maybe worked out with the mets and USTA but i think some thing can be worked out.......

I believe in this project because mercenary pele and shitty actor eric cantona and more importantly the moron british trash that is Paul kemsley are not even a ghostly presence with the cosmos he is long gone never to return and his worthless vagabond laggies are gone with him... this is now a 100% mls hands on project and while its going to take some time its going to happen....

Finally there will be an alternative to that REPULSIVE AND INSULTING ENERGY DRINK the days of them reminding me of their god awful drink are over let them waste away in NJ being a drink named team they wont matter no matter how good their team is madison avenue is going to look to flushing as will sponcers and hopefuly media as well..... good to hear this news hope it works out and ******** energy drink and that repulsive image down right insulting....

This is a start this is the first grain of GREAT THINGS TO COME... FINALLY SOON IN THE NEAR FUTURE A TEAM WORTHY OF OUR SUPPORT WITH A PROPER IMAGE NO MATTER WHAT THE RESULTS ON THE FIELD WILL BE OR MAY BE....

I hope the legal process and meetings and city officials and all the yick yack talk and hand shakes and protocol are done quickly so this thing can get started...........

This is happening like it or not.....
