I'm gonna take this with a grain of salt considering we don't have enough international roster spots even for the guys we currently have; additionally the noise coming from the RFO lately has been that we don't have cap space either. Let's find a way to get Jamie Smith back on the pitch first...

Already done, They announced this will be Smith's "first game in uniform" this season. GUess his greencard came through.

Also, their is at least one other player claiming he was in negotiating with Rapids (as well as Dallas) as last as last week before signing in Europe.

No and no (with the caveat that allocation money makes the cap room a best guess).

Not to mention we don't have an international slot either.

Maybe MLS is going to update rules during summer window and go with unlimited International and DP slots.:D

We pretty much gave away one of ours to Vancouver in preseaon, so maybe we could easily get one back.

Anyone know of teams not using all theirs? I am sure there are a bunch out there unused if each team got 8 to begin with.

With Yamada possibly leaving that opens a roster spot and an international roster spot or am I guessing incorrectly?

If Smith has his green card then yes, Yamada leaving would give us the roster and international spot we would need. It wouldn't help us on the salary cap issue though as Yamada is one of the 10 that doesn't count against the cap. If Restrepo was willing to sign for 44K then he could take that non-salary cap spot.

Considering Rivero signed for 50K and Henao was pretty low too, this guy might sign for that little. 44K is better than not getting paid at all.

Funny, none of this helps our CB depth issue. Maybe OP/Bravo looked in their crystal ball and saw no more injuries. Also, OP is also complaining about wide defenders (Denver post article) so not helping there either.

To be fair, unless I missed it, none of these player acquisition speculations have come from actual Rapids employee's.

Correct, even Rapids would probably fire them. But mine was from player himself- see following:

GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan attacker Jairo Arreola revealed that he had been in talks with two MLS teams as recently as last week, before signing for a club in Slovakia.
“I was in negotiations with MLS, but everything fell apart because of the offers from Slovakia,” Arreola said. “There were talks with the Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas.”
The dynamic attacker has been a key for local side Comunicaciones since 2005, most recently pairing with MLS all-time leading goalscorer Jeff Cunningham during the 2012 Clausura. This week, Arreola agreed to a one-year deal with Slovakian side Slovan Bratislava, the 2011 champion of the Super Liga. Despite the move to Europe, the forward said he’s still interested in playing in MLS in the future.
“I’ve always wanted to go [to MLS],” he said. “Maybe one day. It’s a league that really interests me. It’s in the Americas, and I’ve always wanted to play there.”

I don't have a problem with the Rapids going after attacking players is they are going to be difference makers. At this point it seems they have decent depth in the midfield and up front. But if they can find some players who are better than what they've got then I say they should go for it.

What they need are more defenders with talent. They seemed to be moving in that direction when Burling came in for a trial, but that was the end of it.

Should I start collecting bets on whether Pareja's next Latino import will be a dud?

So far I can agree, but I will not call anyone a dude until season's end. MLS is more Physical and guys are much better fitness then most leagues in world.

Well you can have zero patience... I think he is building a good roster. GS didn't have the best acquisitions either. Hell the majority of his were/are terrible or always injured (see Smith).

I'm with Teddy on this one. Paraja has had how long to build a roster - six months? And foreign players typically take at least half a season to figure out MLS. Rivero a dud, I don't think so. Castrillon a dud, no. Edu - he's started like one game so far so I really don't think we have much to go on. Only one we can say is struggling for sure is Zapata.

Knowing nothing about the South African league, I have to wonder if we really want to pick up a left back whose playing time there has declined. I would completely understand it if a South African would think the same if the shoe were on the other foot.

I appreciate the pursuit of opportunities, but I'd be more optimistic if it were by someone with younger legs.

Jon, I hope you don't mind me changing Thread name.

With an open International slot when Smith gets Greencard, I think we will be adding someone during summer window.
