Other than for the language geeks like you and me. ;)

To all the Japanese (and "Japanophile") people on this thread, thank you for all your cultural and linguistic insights outside the sakkaa field, they're really appreciated!

    Miyamoto (!)
    Nakajima (!!!) :eek::eek::eek:

    5 GKs, including Yamane...

Utsugi is now officially considered a DF. :giggle:

Vegalta girls Amano, Osafune and Uetsuji could have to skip one round of Challenge League if nominated? (Not sure if they'd have to play on august 5th). I guess they would be ok with that... :p

The fact that Iwabuchi is still in (as much as Iwashimizu, but that was more obvious) can be cautiously read as a quite good sign? o_O

Beleza's Kanako Ito didn't make it even in the 35... o_O I guess this speaks volumes about the overabundance of talents in the midfield?

I had hopes that Arakawa could make it at least in the 35... :( Oh, well...

Anyone else has comments to make about all this? :geek:

Edit: Saki Kumagai is now listed as 172 cm. Still growing? :giggle:

Yes, I am aware of that. but they will be the "new" team in the nadeshiko league. nobody doubts that they will move up, I assume. When does the next season start?

from what I am reading there is no doubt about the defense of athe nadeshiko. Rock solid, great players, no worries.... :) it's the FW, MF, an GKs we are most concerned with, in particular because of injuries....?

Unfortunately knowing that Roman script exists and knowing how to write their own names in Roman script doesn't help too much. Because children can go from くまがい to KUMAGAI, they think that you can therefore always go the other way, so they will guess that the spelling of soccer is sakkaa and so on, and not bother to check. So one of the main obstacles is teaching children that foreign languages have a different structure - since they only know a syllabic language, it's a difficult thing for children to appreciate.

The best U-17 teams from the AFC, should always do incredibly well at the youngest levels of international football. All thanks to the size and power difference being so minimal at the U-17 age group, the tactical and technical ability of the AFC nations will continue to propel them to the head of the international pack.

With an improving global awareness concerning the benefits connected to professionalism, the next wave of progression throughout the women's game, should come through an extra emphasis on the more intelligent factors of how to play football. While it's obvious that these attempts at progression won't be the same for everybody, as we've already seen with the senior level French, and baby Spain, Japan's/east Asia's way of thought, won't be unique just to Asia over the next few years either ;).

 Once again, when you still see the names of Asuna Tanaka and Megumi Takase in the Nadeshiko squad, I can't help but think Sasaki's choices had little to do with having an overabundance of talent at his command .

    Hmmmm, rock solid......

I wonder what the Speranza coach (or Jeff's coach, last year) thinks of her "unpredictable nature"?
Sasaki seems to be a person that doesnt let go of old ideas. His 35-person squad is obviously a month old (we know from the Yamane report) and it includes 5 GKs in the hope that someone will emerge. However in the end, it is the familar ones he takes to Sweden. Pronlem not solved, unless he think Fukhomoto is back to her best.

Look, no matter what anyone says, I am not going to lose my fears that Kaihori is the weakest link on the team. Why do I think that? Well remember the defeat to Germany at the Algarve, 4 goals conceded, of which 2 were gifts by her. And the WWC game against England, lobbed twice.

However, I know that there at least 3 people here, including blissett and you, that think she is the best GK for the job - believe me, I am not trying to change your minds. I just dont want the Nadeshiko GK to gift goals at the Olympics, that's all.

No matter who Sasaki picks as the #1, they are going to the best of a bad bunch if they are going to be constantly measured by what Hope Solo does for her team. If Japan needed Hope Solo heroics between the posts though, I doubt Japan would even be a contender right now either, so.....

Maybe "unreliable", especially in a year long league, but it might be different in a short term competition...

I don't think Fukumoto has any problem, but no matter how good she is it's not the solution of the height problem.

Really? She's like 5cm shorter than Kaihori, and I can't think of a goal scored against her where 5cm would have made any difference.

Of course comparing her with Yamane is a different story, but until I've seen good, consistent play from Ms. 187cm, I'm not even going to think about her.

In my opinion the whole "height problem" thing is completely blown out of proportion.

Absolutely agree. It is more a case of positioning and timing the jump for the high shots.
Batfink, that is a very strange response to my post! I said I just want to put an end to "gift" goals.

All GK's are prone to error, but I'm sorry, I can't honestly see how anybody can forgive and forget Miss f*ck up-Fukhomoto's most glaring national team errors . Her semi final collapse versus a very ordinary, very beatable U.S., during the last Olympics, was simply.....  awful.

As bad as Kaihori can be, she's never, repeat never, demonstrated anything like those two Fukhomoto mistakes when she's been picked to play for the national team. For Fukhomoto to throw away that Olympic semi final, with such huge consecutive mistakes, had me covering my face from the embarrassment :(, which was the exact opposite reaction to seeing Kaihori play at the WWC.

All the Nadeshiko keepers measured against the rest of the world have issues, but until I see Kaihori single handedly throw away a game, I can't beef what she does representing Japan. INAC though....:giggle:

The final 18-player squad and 4 backup members will be announced on the 2nd of July. So these matches against USA and Sweden are the last chances for the players on the borderline.

By the way, has JFA officially announced the France match? It's not scheduled in here:
    http://nadeshikojapan.jp/national_team/2012/nadeshiko/game/

Is it because a closed door game or something like they did with Sweden before the world cup?

Apparently during the training camp, nadeshiko were trying 4-3-3. Not sure which players in which positions. According to Sasaki, they were trying it as an option against the teams who play one striker with 3 central midfield. I think it's a bit too late for this system to mature but I guess it's good to have plan B.

I've always wondered why he never tried 4-3-3. Especially after Kawasumi's emergence, it would have been very interesting. I've always wanted to see 4-3-3 with these players. Can you imagine 3 central mids with Miyama, Sawa and Sakaguchi? I think Miyama is a bit too light weight to play in one of two central mids (in 4-4-2) against likes of USA, but I think she can play there as one of three central mids with Sawa and Sakaguchi next to her. And she can get more involved in the game than being stuck on the left at times.

    ----------------- Nagasato/Ando ---------------------
    Kawasumi ----------------------------------- Ohno

    ------------ Miyama ------- Queen ---------------
    ------------------- Sakaguchi ----------------------

    Shark ------ Kumagai ----- Iwashimizu ----- Kinga

    ---------------------- Kaihori --------------------------

Another thing was Takase played right-back in training games. If Sasaki is serious about Takase being the cover for Kinga, I don't think Ariyoshi will get into 18-player squad. We've already have Yano who can play all the positions across the back four. Utsugi can play the left back. So if Takase can also cover the right back, we don't really need Ariyoshi. She may be a decent defender but she offers nothing going forward, which is basically Yano can do and better defensively.

It's not really exact that I am pro-Kaihori. I am quite neutral about the subject: it's more a question about inertia; unless it's crystal-clear that Kaihori can be a liability, I don't see a reason to change the 2011 WWC hierarchy. And, in my opinion, that's not what we're at: both GKs have shown points of force and weaknesses, but no-one of them emerged as the obvious choice, although both had their moments and shone in some saves or skills.
I quite like the competition between the GKs, so we can have the best one in the goal in London, but Fukumoto didn't convince me yet that she's so much better than Kaihori in every circumstance.
I guess I always underlined both good matches and mistakes of each GK, so I find a lil unfair being labeled as a biased and uncritical Kaihori-fan.

Gulp! I hope they confirm that and it can be seen... (although maybe Sasaki doesn't want to give away too much just before thetorunament?)
I really wanted to go watching it in Paris... :(
I hope they'll say something more about this subject later. Any news about that from the France side? o_O

That's quite interesting... so Takase basically as a universal/jolly in every part of the field? :D (She was also tried as defensive MF in Algarve if I am not wrong).
it could be that it's Ariyoshi being cut from the defense, but everything in that area also depends on Iwashimizu fully recovering in time.
But in fact I always said that I prefer a pure DF less, if it means bringing in another FW/offensive MF. Especially if Sasaki really thinks about bringing Maruyama. o_O I'd like to know how much exactly we can count on her, physically. Everytime I see that big bandage on her knee, I cringe...

Sigh... Thank you for confirmation, but it doesn't say anything about it being open to the public or closed doors. :(

I guess I'll have to try to get some info about that, someway... o_O

Looks like you can buy tickets for it, so my guess would be that it's open to the public. ;)
