He probably will be fired at some point this season. But there are bigger organizational problems with MLSE that extend beyond the coach.
At least Arsenal are consistently in the CL and always make the KO stage, whereas Nowak has us lingering down the bottom of the table in what-would-be relegation zone.
Morbid curiosity, because I missed yesterday's game due to family outing, but did Nowak shake Aron Winter's hand after the game?
And there it is. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/spor...-coach-aron-winter/article4238753/?cmpid=rss1 Hopefully Nowak will be next.
the Toronto FC thread regarding it here reads much more differently than it would for Nowak. Sounds like many liked Winters or what he was trying to do. More on upper management than anything else. Could that also be the case (looking at Nick S.) in Philadelphia besides Nowak. Meaning if Nowak's head rolls should there be others that go with him?
Isn't Nick S one of the Investors in the Union though? Wasn't he one of the driving forces in bringing MLS to Philly? Wouldn't he have to be bought out by someone new in order to be removed?
Nick's head should roll over this too because there was no organizational check on Nowak's decisions. He bears at least some responsibility for the mess. That being said, it's pretty clear that the problem here is mostly Nowak and him being allowed to drive the team into the ground, particularly with the inexplicable transfer decisions. As I noted upthread, Toronto has bigger organizational problems that extend beyond just the coach. No question that Mariner should be able improve on Winter's performance though.
“We’ve been really lucky from Day 1 with this amazing fan base ... and we haven’t delivered the goods,” Anselmi said. “You can’t take that for granted, we’ve got to deliver the goods. We had a free pass for a few years as an expansion franchise and now it’s time to step up to the plate. We said that last year, we haven’t done it this year and that’s why we came to the conclusion that a change needed to be made. " Wow...that sounds very familiar!! If Nowak goes the FO can copy and paste that......."You can't take the fans for granted" WELL SAID!!!
New coaches never come in and talk about losing, except in the past tense. Remember the good old days when Nowak was hired? "You will be hard-pressed to find a single criticism of the hiring among Philadelphia fans." "And when asked what kind of philosophy he would be bringing here, Nowak replied, 'a winning philosophy.'" Other hilarious quotes can be found at: http://www.examiner.com/article/peter-nowak-the-right-man-for-the-job
But a recent article with Nick make it sound like the whole EVP title/position for Nowak allows Sakiewicz and the rest of the FO/ownership to distance themselves from the "whims of a madman".
Now that Nowak has done his damage here, looks like he's looking to Scotland for his next victims. http://www.scotsman.com/edinburgh-e...oaches-show-interest-1-2347129?commentspage=2
Philly Soccer Page is reporting that Nowak has applied to become the new manager of Scottish team Hearts. http://www.phillysoccerpage.net/2012/06/09/report-peter-nowak-applies-for-scottish-job/ DAMN! Beaten by mere seconds!
"Nowak has applied to become the new manager of Scottish team Hearts" Quick, let's all write to the team about how great of a manager he is and we would all would be sad to seem him go across the pond, but also understand that this opportunity allows to him to move on to bigger and better things in Europe. [Not sure if I should make this text red]
Time for another prayer: Dear Lord baby Jesus, lyin' there in your ghost manger with your cheese fries and large diet pepsi, just lookin' at your Baby Einstein developmental videos, learnin' 'bout all those shapes and colors especially the blue and gold,I would like to thank you for bringin' me and the Union together and also that our support section no longer sound like retarded gang-bangers. Now, I know Nicky Sack thinks your a figure skater, wearing a white outfit, and doing interpretive ice dances of Nowak life's journey. But I still like to think of you this way! News just across that our dear leader has entertain the thought that he could be the perfect new coach for Hearts. I understand with a record of 63-54-48 in MLS and the ability to destroy a playoff team in less then 5 months, he probably has no chance in hell for the job. But I want you to understand he would be perfect for the job if only to get him the hell away from our beloved Union. Please for all that is holy allow the board of Hearts to have a complete brain fart at the time of the decision and decide that they can have Petr for free. Hell, we'll even buy the one-way ticket and best of all, we don' t even need our dear friend allocation money to be a part of the deal. I know, shocking that he would not be involved, but hey, beggars can't be choosy. Let this be done in your name and the late great Colonel Sanders, who once said, "I'm too drunk to taste this chicken."
This rumored Hearts interest sounds a lot like a guy who sees the oncoming freight train and is looking for a chance to jump before getting flattened. Pete getting a Euro coaching gig would be a dream come true for the Union FO, who are otherwise going to be under tremendous pressure to can his a$$ sooner rather than later. A voluntary move saves face for Sack and Sugarman, ironically much like the Le2 to Bolton plan Pete was hoping for. As far as timing goes, I don't see the ASG as a factor any more, unless it might be to influence an even quicker move, since the attention Pete will likely get as the ASG coach is just going to be more embarrassment to the team FO and the league FO. The fact that he denies sending his CV to Hearts only means that his agent sent it instead.
Basically, it would be an escape for the Union. They can't/won't fire Nowak before the All Star Game because it would make them and the league look bad. But if Nowak goes abroad to take a Euro job? Man, the press conference quotes almost write themselves. "We wish Peter all the best in his new challenging role in the highly competitive European soccer world." "Peter wanted to take on a fresh challenge." And so on. I could see Nick Sack and Sugarman trying to bump Nowak out the door and make it seem like an "amicable" split with Peter wanting to take on a new club challenge. It means that they could start to rebuild the club in the summer transfer window rather than trying to wait until the end of the season. It also would mean that maybe the lineup would have more consistency and players would have more consistent roles which would be a fantastic thing.
