After what should be a confidence building win against Fresno in the Open Cup, the Strikers welcome the hapless Silverbacks to town this weekend. Our friend Marty Lancaster and Co. have not registered a win yet this year. This is a winnable game and one the team frankly really needs in league play.

That being said I am not at all opposed to Coach resting one or two key guys in preparation for the USOC match out in San Jose on Tuesday.

Hopefully we finally catch a break from this ridiculous weather we've been having lately.

According to the WC this rain should break by Saturday. I hope so.

The Silverbacks did advance in USOC play, getting a 1-0 win Tuesday, their 1st of the year.

Everybody be there. we need as many fannies in the seats as possible.

    GO STRIKERS!

    Wow.

I knew we were going to be a different team this year compared to last but the inability to score is amazing.

Sure enough. We had multiple chances to put Atlanta away and didn't finish. The center ref didn't help much either. Not to be a homer, but that guy blew some major calls for the Strikers. It seemed like he tried to make up for them by dealing cards like he was in Vegas! Talk about interrupting the flow of the game.

The man in the middle did have a difficult game, of his own making. He missed a few calls, and made a few questionable decisions. For all of that the Strikers have only themselves to blame. They dominated. had more than a few open looks or shots and only buried one of them. All the others were shanked, placed nicely into the upper row of the bleachers or miskicked in some other creative way.

Atlanta had one chance the entire game and scored. The ref certainly didn't help, but we didn't do all that much to help our own cause either. Our scoring ineptitude is profound. This seemed to cause much frustration among the players. They tried to take it out by yapping at the ref; Stahl got his first yellow for dissent. With a ref that reacts to it the end result was/is predictable. If we'd only finish our chances we'd have a much better result. More along the lines of the game we played Tuesday.

OTOH, our guys did not fold & give up a cheapie at the end and lose. They kept enough poise to keep it a draw.
