So the Disciplinary Committee can decide ticky tacky shit after a game and suspend players and staff. Will this big bunch of pussies do anything about the egregious mistake made by the Referees on the Pappa rebound goal? It's there, on video, anyone can replay it. Over and over.
    Encorachment.
    Simple call.
Hilario Grajeda and his worthless ARs missed it. In front of their faces.
F ucked again by MLS refs.

    This is unbelievable.

On the other hand, I would expect nothing less from a guy whose name is Hilario. Sounds like a magician, which he proved last night by making Pappa disappear from the penalty box.

This is a very good point. I mean anyone can see that the call is clear as day and it cost us the game. Is there retrospective action for referees? If not, why not?

I'll give him the fact that's he's not match sharp yet after the injury, but after three games at outside back vs. outside mid I'm not convinced Rodriguez is an MLS level outside back.

    * You know, I understand the convention of NOT calling all the obvious encroachments on penalties. Many refs who get it in their minds to enforce it end up creating farces where they make penalties get retaken 2-3 times. I understand. But, referees, if you are looking for a nice clear dividing line of when to make the call and when not to, a good rule of thumb is that if the encroaching guy scores a goal on a rebound, that's the time to make a call.

    * This is the game that finally convinced me that Daniel Hernandez is D-O-N-E. I've been suspecting it for the last month or two, but this game was the clincher. If you don't add anything on offense, and you're slow and clumsy on defense, AND for some reason you claim a lot of our dead ball restarts and butcher them, I really don't see the point. At this point he's a warm body and I get that. But once the situation returns to something approaching normal DH needs to accelerate his coaching career.

    * I saw somebody mentioning "Southlake" in this thread, and it hurt to see that word. I've been drawing parallels in my mind between this year and 2003 but I had resolved to not be the first one to start mentioning "Southlake" and "2003". But now that the cat's out of the bag, WTF. I can't help thinking when reading all the explanations for our current state that have an implication of "it can't last forever, it has to get better" that NO, it might not get better. Southlake 2003 -> Exhibit A. This doesn't feel like a slump that we'll get out of in a few weeks. This feels like season-defining stuff.

Tonight was lost on a total BS call but we made a stupid play getting the PK called on us in the first place and also missed a PK. There's your difference between 0 and 3 points. Also, I'm just going to add this nugget in after every game:

That's 8 games in a row FCD has failed to put the ball in the back of net multiple times. Tough to get results when you're only scoring 1 or zero goals per game.

The bad old days are back in full bloom.

I don't think we could beat Toronto

Bad player personnel decisions by the coach and FO. Bad decisions by the players on the field. And bad luck.

We just don't have enough good players.

I am not so sure it's the individual players aren't good enough as much as that once they get together, they aren't good enough. The lack of cohesion of a regular lineup plays a part, but these guys don't seem to work for each other at all. Then the mental side of this squad is just pathetic, you see some many lapses of basic judgement, either in fouling in bad spots, red cards when lazy, or the simple act of getting shots on frame in key situations.

The problem now is the MLS Cup team stands out as the anomaly season to me, and I think have seen enough of SH running the club to know that his reign needs to end. I like the guy, but his roster building and tactics simply aren't getting it done. Blame injuries to key players, but at some point you have to say that if you can't lose one cog causes the team to collapse like this for a second season, perhaps all the eggs in his basket is a terrible idea.

    Fcuking disaster.

Remember, Southlake had a silver lining. A new coach, which is exactly what is needed now. Pity that there is no CC waiting in the wings, to take the team to within a game of the Supporter's Shield. No. There is Ellinger. You remember him. He was the one who was terrible at RSL, prompting the smart move to JK9, who has, you might recall, won an MLS Cup.

That, of course, will not happen. Dumbass is Coach For Life. Results do not matter. Sure, FCD is screwed by the refs just about every game, and the injury bug has bitten hard and with venom. A good coach, however, finds a way to rise above this. So it should be no surprise that the current coach has not.

When we were calling for Dir's head, the reason he remained at his post was that Billy Hicks was not unhappy with him. Dallas went to the playoffs every year with Dir. Remember that? Yeah, that was cool. So, as this team falls from playoff contention, will HSG become unhappy. No, it is fine. Until HSG realizes that this SMU plan is not working and will not work, this team will remain the sad unfunny joke of the MLS. My guess is that the ego of HSG will not allow themselves to admit they have made a mistake, just as the ego of Dumbass will not allow him to realize he cannot coach at this level and resign. So do not expect a professional coach to save this team.

FCD will never win an MLS Cup. Not under this management.

There is but one man who can salvage this season. The SOS should have already have reached him. "Dario, please tell us you have someone coming up who can help right now!"

We all know this call has not, and will not, happen.

After all, as we have seen, this team is fine. Just fine.

    FC Dallas!

The only thing Hilario makes disappear is anabolic steroids.
At least half of the refs in MLS now look like roid heads. They're all juiced up and loving the smash mouth soccer being played in MLS. They love blood and will not take s off anyone so if you whine then they let more slide and then red card your weak arse.

In 2003 FCD didn't play at the Cotton Bowl, they played at a high school field in Southlake (a whitewashed suburb of Dallas very similar to Frisco except not as far away from everything) called Dragon Stadium. Folks around here like to blame that for a precipitous drop in attendance. The first FCD game I ever attended was at Dragon Stadium, against the NY/NJ Metrostars. I don't remember who won, but it was a good enough experience to turn me into a fan. Southlake is just a convenient scapegoat for ongoing problems.

Kind of like the referees. They're not why we lost last night's game. We lost it first because we have no depth, and second because when we score we bunker, and we're not good enough to pull that off. If the PK encroachment had been called, there would have been a retake, and undoubtedly Hartman wouldn't have saved two in a row. Even if he had, the Fire would have found a way to put one away in the run of play before 90 minutes, which is something we can't seem to do.

Southlake was a problem in many ways. The team was not built for turf, the move lost a lot of fans that have never returned and the team that year had the worst record in franchise history.

I guess my question is they had called the encroachment do they re-do the PK? If they re-do it would likely have scored anyway. If not they probably cost us a tie. The team itself looked better but still started with three d-mids and that hurt as the half went on. SH noticed Marcelin this game and replaced him at half. To be fair neither Hernandez or Jacobson were much better. Perhaps it's that all three are trying to do the same thing and getting in each others way. Thought Bruno looked good but he is more of a tweener and not a strictly defensive type. Still would like to see Leyva in the Ferreira role. Anyone know what happend to GJ? Good thing the team has four good centerbacks as they're down to one now.

I see what you did there.

But otherwise, I agree with you. The problem isn't the refs. Well, they are a problem, but they weren't THE problem.

THE problem is that we are utterly and complete incapable of scoring. In 14 games, we've scored two goals in a game twice: opening day against New York and April 14 against Montreal. We've averaged less than a goal a game and there aren't very many team in the league that are in that club with us. Last night, if we had a remotely competent attack, we get at least a point out of the game, if not three, even with the usual officiating stupidity.

It's also the reason why I have a hard time calling for the Bus Driver's head at this point. Yeah, we're losing because we're not scoring. We're not scoring because Ferreira's been on the shelf, Villar has been on the shelf, Shea has been called up or suspended at various times, Castillo has spent some time on the shelf.

It also doesn't help that they've given up the most goals against in the league either.

From the "Infringements and sanctions" section of Law 14:

So if the ref determined that only Pappa had infringed, the goal would've been wiped out and we would've gotten a free kick. If he determined that both Pappa and an FCD player had infringed, the PK would've been retaken.

Ugh. Ok, no one is blaming Southlake for anything that is happening now. There are some drawing parallels with that wretched season to this one. I think we have a lot more talent in 2012 vs 2003 but I understand the comparisons (our most creative player hurt long term, poor coaching, every call going against us, 2 yellows equals a red, horrid luck, and no end in sight). For those of us around before Southlake, we saw a team on the upswing in a comfortable setting in Downtown with a diverse fanbase, drawing up to 15-17k consistently. This team was ripped out of this home by the brilliant minds at HSG (and their dog, John Wagner) and put onto a High School football stadium in Southlake, TX (which might be more centrally located in the metroplex but it's definitely more Ft. Worth than Dallas). Every horror imaginable happened that season. We even had Southlake's High School band play during one of our games. I'm not kidding. This move was made to save $$ while PHP was being built. By the time we realized the error of our ways and went back to the Cotton Bowl we got a fraction of the attendance back and ended up leaving the Cotton Bowl in 2005 with only 1/4 of the stadium used for actually seating fans.

I was wondering the same thing. What is the official rules say on a PK being taken, saved, and then the rebound scored by a guy clearly in the box while it was taken? I would think (via common sense) that it would just be awarded as a free kick to Dallas. However, there is no common sense with FIFA. Now if he had scored it, yes it should have been retaken but why should we be punished for their encroachment??

EDIT: I see I was right, thanks Dustin.

To be honest, most of that goes back to the inability to score. We spend too much time exposing ourselves in a futile attempt to score. Additionally, if you can't score, opposing teams can commit more to their attack because they don't respect your ability to make them pay.

Thanks for looking it up. OK, so on the replay (http://www.mlssoccer.com/matchcenter/2012-05-23-chi-v-dal/highlights @ 6:30) it looks like Hedges (I think) does enter the box before the kick is taken. So, in theory, they should have gotten a retake. That doesn't mean the refs would have seen Hedges if they had seen Pappa, of course.

Ha. Well, if you ask me (and all of you always do), I don't understand the Ft. Worth obsession shared by some. I'll always take Dallas over Ft. Worth. However, when we're arguing Dallas suburbs vs Ft. Worth suburbs, there is little difference (especially between Southlake and Frisco).

This has been my point all season. Nobody respects this team's ability to score and why should they?
