Hate to say it, but make sure you bring your cars and have a DD. Jax is a "city" but a very "large" one at that, and you will need them in order to move around successfully. Public Transit is limited to buses, and few can be timed perfectly for after the game and all public transit cuts off at 12. Gator Taxies are arguably the "best" taxi, but a trip from the beach to the stadium will cost you at least 25, if not more. Also they are known for taking the long way with out of towners, so be on your game and google map it before hand. Jax Beach is where you'll find the vast majority of bar strips and while they happen to have some smaller places around the two universities of North Florida and Jacksonville, your best bet is staying by Jax Beach. The Airport is north of the city, and is a 15 minute drive from downtown, Amtrak is located in the Magnolia Gardens section of the city, about 5 minutes north. Any other question just ask a former residence.
Definitely everything is far. Jacksonville is pretty much 98% of Duval County (it's the largest U.S. city by land area not in Alaska). Should be a fun time though...can't wait to get back to the JAX!
28,ooo tickets! I can't wait! http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...-team-matches/2012/05/14/gIQAg33APU_blog.html
Any update on Tic sales? how's tailgating around the stadium? Any specific "lot" that fans are gathering in.
Looking for one or two tickets for the Supporter's Section, 148. Private mail me if you have. Will be at the AO hotel and JAX supporter's bar night before.
31,600 tickets so far! http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs...-team-matches/2012/05/21/gIQANftzfU_blog.html
USA vs Scotland to break all-time attendance record for US Men's national team in Florida. http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-N...land-to-Break-All-Time-Attendance-Record.aspx
For a friendly, so far. Brazil v USA at the 2003 Gold Cup in Miami had official attendance of 35,211. Still time to beat that, not sure what USA game would have had more, if any, in Florida.
At least one did: http://www.ussoccer.com/news/articl...-haiti-in-gold-cup-opener-at-orange-bowl.aspx
That one doesn't seem in danger of falling. What percent of that crowd was Haitian? I lived in Asia during that Gold Cup so didn't really have a chance to follow it. Interesting that was held in February that year. A lot nicer time of year for a game in Florida.
Traffic in J-ville this weekend. http://www.news4jax.com/news/Jazz-F...town/-/475880/14137472/-/vm689ez/-/index.html Ouch, don't like this forecast...cutting it close....Tampa forecaster but covers weather system moving towards north Florida over the weekend. http://www.abcactionnews.com/dpp/news/region_tampa/forecasters-watching-large-low-pressure-system-over-south-florida
More than 36K tickets sold for tommorow night's game! http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-N...-for-Three-Friendlies-and-Two-Qualifiers.aspx
There was a double header that day. Colombia vs. Jamaica was the first match. Lot's of Colombians and Haitians were there that day. Also I believe the Jamaican fans outnumbered the USA fans. (I was not there but remember it on tv.)
Good job Jacksonville on over 44K in the stands. I am almost tempted to see Jacksonville get a Hex match against a team like Canada or something like that.
