So that looks like a no regarding Tables. I did stumble upon some code on the xenforo site but I could not tell if it was meant to be parsed within the code wrappers, or if it was general code to make the overall layout appear as the users wanted. Either way from my perspective the code windows appear to be a major loss of functionality. I would not complain so much if I got the same results doing the same thing that another user is doing, but I don't and that is very frustrating. But thanks for the link nonetheless .

Crap ... I just looked at one of my old MLS table threads, and the coding functionality that made those threads possible is now partially gone. I need to be able to format the text -- color coding and such.

I had planned to have another table thread this year. I'm not sure how that's going to work now.

Glad the "code people" are here as I have a question.

I already raised a point about putting coloured text within code tags, and edwardgr, you were kind enough to answer, saying that it is in the PHP code option. I'm afraid I didn't understand.

Looking at the the post where huss linked to the bb codes, I think am half understanding. I can make the text coloured by putting it in PHP code tags - how do I make each word the colour that I want it to be? It seems random. Please don't tell me I need to learn PHP!

What brought it to my attention was at the end of each season we've had a thread called "the run in" on the Manchester United board where we've listed the remaining fixtures for the teams involved in title contention in a format like this:

Is it possible to (easily reproduce) the very same thing on the new board?

    Many thanks for any answers/suggestions.

You wouldn't be able to do it in the code wrapper, unfortunately. That basically tells the system to ignore all the code in the wrapper and display it as it is entered.

As an example, if I type in the bbscript needed to produce this in a code wrapper it ends up looking like this:
    Code:
    [color=red]red[/color]

That's also why Knave's bolding and italicizing isn't working.

Yeah, I saw that. Thing is, with the old code setup, it still allowed for UBB coding -- i.e. "code" didn't treat UBB code as code. That made it reasonably easy to make nice, user-friendly tables.

Maybe there's a way to do the same thing under the new software. If not, then I don't know what the best solution might be.

Yeah.. This forum really needs a way to build tables that doesn't require me to copy from an excel spreadsheet, paste it into notepad, then get the columns lined up. Right now I'm working around this by using an equation in excel to left pad all the data to get everything lined up, but it would be much easier if I could use the equations to put in some sort of table code and that would get everything lined up. Something like this would be awesome:

    [tr]
    [td]row1,column1[/td][td]row1,column2[/td]
    [/tr]
    [tr]
    [td]row2,column1[/td][td]row2,column2[/td]
    [/tr]

Once you get that working, I would think you could then use the color and bold wrapper to format the cells anyway you want.

I designed the spreadsheet that I use for the MLS table thread to spit out copied and pasted data in a form that comes out very close to perfectly lined up. But I post those tables once or twice a week when that thread is running. For a one-off table it'd be a lot work to set up a spreadsheet in that way.

On possible immediate workaround might simply be to post tables in Courier New. In some ways the code wrapper was just a way to force BigSoccer to show a fixed width font. Well, Courier New is a fixed width font.

But, yeah, there just has to be a good and easy way to post tables. And on a soccer forum people are going to want to post tables. Maybe it shouldn't be on the short term to-do list (I want MyBigSoccer back!), but it should be on the list.

Sorry didn't mean to imply that PHP allowed changing color, just noted that earlier when I had tried the Code options, my text when using PHP came out in color. I noticed earlier that all the text tags within the code box just show up as a tag, afraid that at present there probably is not much of anything that can be done. Unless someone saw something in the BB code page Huss posted earlier, that I missed.

I may for the time being just attach files, which is not ideal but saves the insane effort needed to get the formatting correct.

Oh and DK just so you know the tag that Mancunia used did show up as an alert for me. You had mentioned earlier that you did not think it worked, but perhaps you just have so many alerts you did not see amongst everything (or it just started working since this morning is a possibility as well.)

A lot of people have said they miss the forum menu bar on the left side of the screen, but I haven't seen anyone say it's coming back. Are there plans to add it or not?

Also, watched forums is all forums. How do we just watch a few forums?

This is all such crap. Maybe in a few months this format won't hurt my eyes. As it is, for the record, I think it is f*cking retarded. I'm sure its all for the greater good and whatnot. But I think its utter crap.

Seeing one post per screen gives me a headache and kills thread continuity. Visually this all looks like a step backward. I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate it.

Re the shortcuts on the left. Whatever. All I care about is USMNT and MLS. How about trashing all the other crap boards and just leaving us the good stuff. That would make things more easy to navigate, no?

And while we are adjusting things, can we get of DWreck and whoever on that podcast and maybe get some less condescding/full of themselves podcasters? Maybe Chinaglia would be available to help tone it down a notch.

This all feels like I'm working a wordpress blog from the inside. Im sure in 6 months 3 months I won't care and will of course appreciate the new format. And I'm sure it'll be better. But whatever, for now it is utter crap and you know it.

with this new format i can only see 2 posts at a time max on my screen, and sometimes only 1

which makes the conversation seem choppier to me

    or something like that

i liked seeing 3 or 4 posts per screen like it was during the Golden Era

can we at least make the avatars not take up the entire screen pls?

perhaps a little less is more? more minimalist approach?

as is all we see are the damn avatars

joe actually has a point. There is a TON of unnecessary open space in this design.

When I have several tabs open, I need a reminder of what thread I'm looking at. I know it has been said in one of these threads, but it would be nice to see the thread title at least near the reply box or somewhere else near the bottom of the screen.

Yes, it will be returning. In one of the bug reports/suggestions threads, he said it will likely end up on the right side.

Go just above the threads on the right side and there should be a box that says "Watch Forum." (Actually, it is there even when viewing this thread.) Click on the box and it will give you options for the forum only (email, alert, etc.).

There appear to be a few improvements needed with threads and quoting. I'll compile a list some time this week of issues that have been addressed over the last 7-10 days for Huss to verify status.
