Now I did this last season, and it was quite difficult to find anyone deserving (look here for a refresher of where we were at this point last year https://www.bigsoccer.com/community/threads/juventus-player-of-the-year-2010-2011-season.1786241/ ), but this season it looks A LOT DIFFERENT, and for the better wait till after the final game or the coppa if you so wish, but for me personally nothing that happens there can change my opinion! without further adieu, vote away *if you choose other, let us know who and why!
and my vote goes to.... PIRLO! although a strong case could be made for any number of players (barzagli, vidal, buffon come to mind easily), i think pirlo provided the clear difference and was so central to almost everything great juve did this year. a true maestro on the pitch, i feel extremely sorry for questioning his arrival because of age and almost feel a little criminal for getting him on a free!
it was a tough choice for me between buffon, chiellini, marchisio and pirlo.....but i gotta pick the maestro Pirlo but i really wanna pick buffon, without him we coulda lost some key games...but its kinda hard picking a goal keeper as player of the season
Barzagli was a beast this year, and he's unheralded. Sure, the scudetto doesn't happen without Pirlo, I think the same can be said for Barzagli. Silky smooth for a bigger guy, and the brain on the best back line in Italy. So my vote is Barzagli.
Without Pirlo nothing would work although I'd give Vidal an honourable mention. His ball winning tactics and ground coverage where phenominal and consistent.
Our possession game helps our defense tremendously. And Pirlo is the engine of our possession game. His influence on our attack is well apparent but he also helps our defense as well. Even though many think of Pirlo in a non-defensive way.
so? Pirlo wasn't the one saving our asses when a team got through. I understand Pirlo was the heart of pretty much everything, but Barzagli was humongous as he far exceeded any expectations ANYONE had of him, i knew Pirlo would be Pirlo, i had no doubts. And if we consider what you are saying then Marchisio and Vidal would be more fitting as they allowed Pirlo to do what he does
This is why I voted for Andrea. Part of the reason we've been so weak defensively over the past few seasons is because we literally couldn't string three passes together. Now that we can, we're once again solid at the back. Better than solid. Downright quality. While Pirlo is definitely (for me) our player of the season, Conte is our signing of the season. I mean, we can actually pass the ball. And we press our opponents... in their own half! Look at how markedly we've improved on set pieces. Does anybody else remember the cluster******** on this forum when we lost the (lol) Trofeo Berlusconi? People actually wanted him sacked because we (yet again) conceded during a set-piece. We not only stopped conceding them (for the most part, but hey, mistakes happen), we can actually score from them again. He not only changed his tried and trusted formation early on, he worked to make a cohesive unit that could function, and function well, in more than one formation. And as for our injuries... well, what injuries? His training regiment and fitness team helped to eliminate what had been a 4 year long crisis. He did all that in one season. Yes, we didn't have Europe. But he used that to the teams advantage and now we have a genuinely solid foundation on which to build upon. Conte has been nothing short of a revelation and deserves much (maybe even most?) of the credit for this Scudetto.
i think not having europe was a blessing. It helped the team and conte focus on one thing and he did an excellent job. Although it was frustrating at many times.
Completely disagree. 2006-07 was a frustrating season. 2009-10 was a frustrating season. This year has been the footballing equivalent of angels smiling upon us from heaven. We've been at the top of the table for 27 fixtures. Milan were at the top for just 9. Not sure what people expected of a coach in his first season at the club and another summer where there was once again a turnover of nearly half the team. I dread to think of expectations for next season.
u say that now that we won and its over....but when we were drawing 5 games in a row, were u still happy? There were many times where we could've taken the lead but we managed to tie...or the games we couldnt score more than 1 or 2 goals and barely winning. i dont disagree that those previous seasons were horrible but this year had some share of frustration too...especially with borriello
i just wanted to apologize cause i sound really venomous in the last few posts. Been having a HORRIBLE week. It seems after all the celebrating i had to come back to the real world and its been one hell of a frustration so far. Getting my shit together though, sorry guys
Was I happy? No. But this was the manager's first season at the club. Again we had to integrate a significant number of new players. Growing pains and adjustments and mistakes are inevitable and necessary. It's better to make them this year, in the first year, and improve throughout the season rather than to continue to make the same errors over and over again, leading to the same old stagnation and upheaval. It's important to remember that while this year we were drawing, last year we were losing. That alone in and of itself was a drastic improvement that fans should have appreciated, rather than bitch and complain about potentially disappointed expectations; expectations that are usually nothing more than a fantasy. This year they became a reality because Conte pulled off a miracle. If he hadn't, and we had finished second or third, it should have been enough for the fans to have been satisfied because throughout the season there were clear signs that the squad was coagulating, learning, and improving, even if the results didn't end in our favor (case and point: the second fixture against Genoa). So no, I was never frustrated with the squad this season. Perhaps because I never believed, let alone expected, that we could or would win the Scudetto. And I still feel that anybody who did feel that way had no right to at the beginning of the season, given where we finished last year and the rebuilding that had to begin again during the summer. This is why I dread the expectations for next year. Because somewhere, there's going to be some idiot who will want Conte sacked if he doesn't win the treble. And as we've seen year after year since our promotion, if there's enough of those idiots, they can bring real distraction and damage to the squad.
We still havent lost a game. This team thinks its invincible. Next season when we drop a few games we'll see what Conte is REALLY made of
i agree that conte was magical, and i am a little proud that i defended him and marotta through the tough (?) times this year, he should be world coach of the year in my opinion. i was THIS close to putting him in the poll, but i thought it would be kind of a cheap way out can't say i disagree with anyone voting for pirlo or barzagli though, two great performances
I voted Pirlo only because he was the biggest difference this year. Barzagli last year showed what he could do, but a lot of our defense is credit to Conte's teachings.
