I like how he always shows up against Oswaldo.

But (if I heard Pablo Ramirez correctly...and if he actually knew what he was talking about this time), Suazo will have to sit out the second leg due to yellow-card accumulation. If Monterrey score next week, then things get really interesting, but I don't think a 2-0 home victory (enough to send the Final into overtime) is beyond Santos.

I saw it as a spirit of the law, letter of the law play. The letter of the law says foul, and yellow card (as do all the talking heads on FP).

The spirit of the law takes the whole play, location, and everything else in context. Perhaps the ref saw it as two players going for the ball in front of the goal mouth. There was going to be contact, period, so unless there was extra contact, then maybe a card. Besides, Suazo never had the intention of fouling Oswaldo, and Oswaldo even jumped up and went after the loose ball after the contact.

I thought it was a good no-call on the yellow, but I am not a Santos fan.

I don't think intent matters, a foul is a foul IMO. It's obvious the ref didn't want to give him his second yellow. I believe there was a foul called, and it should've been a yellow.

    Shit happens though...

So you are a letter of the law man. That's cool. I am sure that if it was Pikolin II that took tacos to the thigh, I would feel exactly the same.

Perhaps Oswaldo should have flailed on the ground instead of leaping into action. He didn't sell it.

Im pretty neutral in this final, although i think this Monterrey team could represent this region better than Santos.

    Good game last night.

I think it was blown call, but I think Monterrey were the better team and deserved to win. If it was anyone else, I'd like our chances of coming back.

I think both teams can rep well at cwc but our teams always manage to stink it up. Hopefully this year will be different.

He did know what he was talking about this time. Cards don't get erased before the Final. Like last year, when Beckerman had to sit out leg 2 of the Final because of yellows he picked up in Saprissa and Mexico.

Monterrey should feel very comfortable with this partial result. Up 2-0 in aggregate is very good for Monterrey and I hate to be a pessimist but I don't see Santos overcoming that deficit even at home. We can talk about controversy all we want with Suazo not supposed to be on the field minutes before he scored his first goal but what affect Santos more was Gomez not scoring off that header at the edge of the 6-yard box a minute before the goal.

I think not getting an away goal is what affected Santos more than Suazo not being sent off. Santos had two or three solid scoring opportunities in the game but wasted all of them. a 2-1 goal would have been more manageable for Santos to work with in the return leg. They might be able to score a few goals at home, but I just don't see them holding Monterrey to 0 goals. Alas, we shall see what happens in the return leg as no visiting team had ever won a championship in Torreon.

Overall, I do think that Monterrey has a more solid team. In the attack, both teams are pretty even. However, defensively, Monterrey is more organized tactically and more disciplined. This is Santos biggest weakness- defense. They don't know how to defend and have never been a defensive team. I thought it was rather strange for Galindo to be so conservative knowing this fact. He might have been better off committing more of his players forward to try and get at least one away goal knowing that they can't keep a clean sheet.

Anyone else think Darwin should have just taken the shot himself in the first half?

its seems like santos is now just giving the ball away booting up for a counter. Monterrey is really hurting with out chupete.

Congrats to Monterrey, and here's hoping they learn from last year and show up for next CWC.
