Looking for a bit of advice. I'm heading over to Jacksonville for the USA v Scotland match, but before we head home to Scotland we'll be in Miami for a few days and on the last night we want to go to the Strikers v Rowdies match. We'll be staying somewhere in Miami Beach, how easy/difficult will it be to get to/from Lockhart Stadium on public transport? Planning to head upto Fort Lauderdale earlier in the day so I'm guessing that's the easiest part by public transport, its just getting back to Miami Beach after 22:00 that may cause problems! Any suggestions/advice welcome!
No public transport that I know of between Miami Beach and Ft Lauderdale, unless you consider a cab public transportation, and that'll cost you a whole lot of $$$. Possibly someone in Miami can swing by and give you a ride. I'll see if any ULTRAS can help.... Ignore Speedcake. He's a Tampa Bay Bubba. Hoarder. Few teeth. Votes straight Republican. Thinks roast possum & chicken fried squirrel are gourmet fare. And he's one of the better one's you'll find; he can read and write a bit....
How much do you think a taxi ride back to Miami Beach would be? I recognise that description, over here we call them Hibernian fans
Here is a start to figure out taxi fares but to be honest it doesn't list anything near to where Strikers play. But it will give you an idea what you would be spending: http://www.enjoymiamibeach.com/Miami_taxi_fare_guide.htm It may be the cheaper option to hire a car tbh.
Thanks, so looks like $70, hmmm...... We will have a hire car but we hand that back the day before, and to be honest hiring it for an extra 2 days and adding parking fees at the hotel wont save too much, plus one of us has to stay off the beer!
If you haven't leaned toward any particular club yet, take into consideration that the ROWDIES have a Scotsman on their roster (Stuart Campbell [Former BRISTOL ROVERS player]).
If you're from Scotland, might as well just go to the game, drink a lot of beer and spend the 70-80 bucks for the cab to take you to your hotel. It'll be a once in a lifetime thing. Or, you can see if some diehard Strikers fan is willing to take you back. There are always a few kind souls.
Get to Lockhart a bit early. Game time is usually 730PM, but the party starts about 4PM to 5PM in the west parking lot between Lockhart & the baseball stadium. Ask for the ULTRAS. They usually have some free beer from folks from way our of town. Be warned....we have a few folks from Newcastle that join us at Lockhart. If any hard feelings exist towards them that could make things a bit awkward... ULTRAS are in section 115 once the game starts....well away from the folks from tampon bay.... C'mon down and join the fun. If it's a dry night we could have a pretty good crowd attending. Here's hoping the rain stays away this year.
We're planning on heading up from Miami on the train early afternoon. Don't worry about the Newcastle lot, they are nearly Scots but unlucky enough to be born a few miles too far south
http://g.co/maps/fqqm9 Looks like the rail will take you from close to the stadium (1.5 miles) to the Miami Airport.
TriRail's station is in Hialeah. Several miles north of MIA. You could catch a cab there that will take you to MIA. Or back to Miami Beach.
For the record, let it be known that one of wor lot is from Scotland! Inverness area to be a bit more specific... Not many Geordies play the pipes you know
I'd probably just take a taxi if you're coming from overseas. But if you do drive, the main bridges to the mainland from Miami Beach itself are at 5th St. (SR 1A/I-395) or 41st St. (SR 112/I-195) Both take you to I-95, the main motorway in Miami. Take that north all the way past Fort Lauderdale to NW 50th St. (SR 870) Turn left off the exit, and Lockhart Stadium is virtually right there. You can enter at either NW 12th Ave. or NW 15th Ave. It's about a 30-mile drive, but one of the locals would be better to consult about Saturday traffic in the area. (Sorry, couldn't resist a moment of blatant roadgeekery. )
Thanks for the tips guys. Yeah we intend taking the Tri-Rail to Fort Lauderdale during the day and making our way upto the stadium, it's getting back after the match that's the problem as I understand the Tri-Rail stops around 20:30.
Speaking on behalf of the Geordie contingent: You will have a cold beer waiting for you when you do make it to the game. Just look for the toon tops!
Just catching up on this as time is drawing closer. I assume tickets will be available on the day? I mean to organise an order but haven;t got round to it yet, but if I can buy them at the stadium than I'll just do that.
