a poor result, a poor display all around. Coates was solid, and showed that carra should be 4th choice at best. We're now closer to 15th than 4th. Oh how things can change in a week. Let's get it behind us and go and win another cup.
That may have been positive spin on Aquilani not wanting to be here. However, by all accounts he worked hard and just wanted to play. It's a great shame that he was not given a chance, but I guess we'll never know the full story. This is perfect storm of suck; poor strategy and perceived low desire by the players.

Well I try to accentuate the positive but today really kicked me in the teeth. Zero pace,creativity, vision, energy or skill diplayed by Liverpool. Sunderland attacked each player when in possession and made immediate tackles at their dominant foot. With no ability to take anyone on save Suarez they didn't need to worry about us beating them. Their keeper didn't even have to make a single save. Ours only had one to make and blew it. We couldn't even win a corner in the second half. Adam is completely useless. But none of our attacking players were any good. MOTM for us was Martin Kelly and that says it all since he,s a defensive right back. Only other positive was that after some shakiness at the start Coates didn't play bad at all. After 30 games it is clear that everyone we bought after Suarez simply isn't good enough now. Henderson might develop as might Coates but everyone else sux. Time to play the kids accept in the FA Cup where we need to play our best 11 but the rest of the season is over. Sterling, Suso and anyone else that might have a future. They can't be worse than this incompetent and unengaged lot of players who are seemingly content to draw a big salary and then slowly drift down the table.

At the end of the season I fully expect to see a press conference from Kenny saying he is very pleased with the possession we had all season, we were better on possession that almost every team we played, he is thrilled with how many shots we took and that overall he is very pleased with out progress, cus, ya know, we won a cup and medals an stuff. We're in Europe so it's all cool, the fact that we don't have a squad that could compete in Europe hasn't dawned on him yet. I agree with our astute Director of Football or whatever his title is now... no need for any new players this summer, we're all good.
Kenny has been happy with how we've been playing all season, why would he be any different now? According to him it's just bad luck that's separating us from mid-table mediocrity and being da best footy club in da whole wide world...nothing to do with him and the coaching staff being unable to get the most out of every player within the team system.

I will admit that it certainly appeared that we had no clue what we were supposed to do today. And we never seem to make any adjustments in the course of the match.
coates starting today gives me hope that we do have an eye on the success of the youngsters and that we'll hopefully use the rest of the season to play some... get robinson, suso, eccleston and sterling in there...
That was pathetic. I feel sorry for any fans who spent their hard-earned wages and made the trip to the north-east to watch that crap.
What a dreadful campaign this is turning into. We've dropped points in 17 of our 27 matches so far, lost 8 of those, played like shit in almost every single one and rarely won convincingly. I'm having a hard time believing we would have done worse under Hodgson. I know we're in a transition but this is ridiculous. Think the loss of Lucas had a bigger impact than some thought. I read that we won just 16 out of 42 points since he got injured. In comparison, we picked up 23 points from 13 games before he picked up his knock.
What annoys me is when I read Kenny saying he was pleased with the performance and it was only a moment of bad luck that gave us a loss. Really? A 'moment' of bad luck?

I agree. This is disturbing. We were unlucky not to get results early in the season and dropped a lot of points in draws. Now were are just flat losing games. At some point, KK has to accept some blame and responsibility for the teams performance. He of all people should know what is acceptable for this club, in terms of performance and today was far from it and sadly has become expected. This team needs an enema. Shake up the line up and play some youngsters. I Agree with the lot of you suggesting this. The only hope we have for further success is in the FA. If the team is going to play like a bunch of left footed fat cats, then let's see what the Jr's can do. What could be worse? We are already playing like a low mid-table club and it will not change with the likes of Hendo, Kuyt and Adam in the lineup.
I can believe it. I know that a lot of professional coaches aren't as good as their role/title/position makes them out to be. And there are also a lot of good coaches that should be given more responsibility. Maybe Kenny, Clarke and Keen are just not good enough. It could be that simple.
This pretty much sums it up for me. I hardly even care if we lose anymore. In fact, I expect it. That alone is indicative of how sad this situation is. The Carling Cup was a nice win and all but we all know that we were not convincing in that game. Changes need to be made and lots of money needs to be spent... And spent wisely this time...
Glad not to have seen it due to work. I was worried coming into this match because I knew Martin O'Neil would have his team more fired up than us. Not sure that's what happened but it sure sounds like it. Where's the passion?
