Wow. The cost of what, four tickets to one game for the ability to see nearly every game? Sorry, can't agree with you here.

    Thx,

    Jay!

Compared to other sports packages, it is very cheap. To me, it is a great deal. But I watch nearly every game, most of them on my 105" projector screen.

It was the same price when there were 10 teams and no games in HD.

Yeah, $80 is really not bad considering you get to see every game in HD except the games on Galavision only (unless galavision HD is available on DirecTV now).

Baseball, basketball and hockey cost double that, and football costs $350 I think. MLS package is a great deal.

There are 33 weeks in the MLS season, and 323 games. Not all of them will be on Direct Kick, but a great many of them are. You can look at it as $2.39 a week or $0.30 a game or whatever.

If you sign up for that new Shave a Buck razor thing, you will supposedly save enough to buy Direct Kick for you and two friends. It's all a matter of what you want to do.

IIRC, it was $69 back then. ;)

Regardless, the package was a great deal back then and it's still a great deal now.

It unfortunately isn't as of yet. :(

I think that only DISH Network currently carries Galavisión HD.

Any chance this weekend is free? It was last year and it was nice to see Vancouvers' opener and Agudelo score impressively that weekend.

It is a good deal but it's just football overload over the whole season...need to hang out with the wife at some point during weekends I suppose.

https://live.mlssoccer.com/mlsmdl/secure/registerform has a Free Preview through March 12 option.

As for the price, using 3 hours as an MLB game length and 2 hours as an MLS game length, an MLB season has 7,290 hours and the 2012 MLS season will have 646 hours, which is 8.9% of MLB (including regular season only and ignoring blackouts for both leagues).

yes, its a free weekend, so you'll be able to catch the games.

I used to think it was pricey a couple of years ago and I almost bought DK last year but I procrastinated and I missed a lot of great games and after seeing the expensive prices for other sports packages this year, the MLS package is a deal.

I went with the less expensive MLS Live for 50.99 (with code) just because it allows me to watch from anywhere and access to archived games, so its a win win IMO

It wasn't too long ago it was $49 for somewhere around 10 teams. If you watch at least one game per weekend, that "cost per game" goes down rather quickly.

I bought Direct Kick last year just because of the Pacific Northwest teams. The atmosphere at these stadiums there is incredible. It does seem though that alot of Canadian games are not shown in HD though. But First Kick has gotten me all excited, I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

Also Europeans would kill for a package like this. In England alone you can't watch the 3 oclock games at all anywhere in the country.

You're right, it was $49 way back when. How could I have forgotten that?

Even though Comcast in my area only started carrying the Package for the 2000 season, I still remember how hard it was that year and each year afterward (except for the 2006 and 2007 seasons when I didn't order it) to convince their customer service phone reps that they even carried the Package. While it usually took me to literally the final minute before the season began to successfully get the Package, I was unsuccessful of convincing them of it for the 2002 season. :(

Ironically, the one time that ordering the Package with Comcast would've been easy was the year (2008) I'd finally switched to DirecTV (I hadn't ordered it with Comcast just before I switched, but for the first time ever the phone rep immediately knew exactly what I was talking about). By contrast to previous Comcast experiences, though, ordering the Package with DirecTV was a snap and it automatically renews each season unless you specifically call them to cancel it.

Another benefit of DirecTV's carriage is that it shows all of the Package's games in both SD and HD, which is probably true of DISH Network as well. Does cable now carry the games in HD (it hadn't last I checked, though that was some time ago)?

It also used to be that MLS did not blackout games; I remember being able to watch Metrostars matches on both MSG (when Dish had it) AND DK (and DK actually used to be called something else when it was first launched, can't remember now what it was).

I haven't had DTV for a few years (switched to Dish and now have added FIOS, at least temporarily) but for a while they would only show the matches that were being broadcast by RSNs (e.g. Fox), Dish would show basically ALL the matches available, including so-called "wild feeds". As far as HD, for the past couple of years Dish would show maybe half a dozen matches in HD over the entire season. I don't know what it will be like this year, although they show two HD games tonight. I can't remember seeing a MLS HD game offered on InDemand (FIOS and cable) last season but they only had one HD channel. InDemand now has multiple HD slots available, although FIOS still can only carry one because of capacity limitations. You can check the InDemand HD schedule and it looks like they are offering multiple HD games this week.

You can criticize MLS for many things, but I completely fail to see how anyone can criticize them for their Direct Kick package.

Yep. As a DirecTV DK subscriber, I really wish MLS would can the Galavision package, and just allow the local broadcasters to pick up those games. Then I would get them in a language I speak in HD, as opposed to one I don't and in awful picture quality.

Were there any games last year not televised either nationally or by at least one team? I don't recall any.

They are on the local RSN's for the markets teh team are from but yea it does suck. I read ( I hope I read wrong) that there will be a Chivas vs Fire game only televised on ESPN Deportes only. Thats bull if its true.
