Grenada Football Association Finally Woke Up

Grenada Football Association inaugural semi professional league (Grenada Super League) has received endorsement from one of the country top journalist.

Michael Bascombe, a leading Caribbean Sports journalist has commended the GFA's efforts as a very noble one and he believes with proper planning and support from corporate Grenada the event can also become an example for other smaller OECS territories.

Bascome stated the GFA must aggressively seek to introduce live streaming of its matches during the (GSL) in order to attract potential sponsors. He advised the tournament can become a major success in years to come.

Bascombe who is well known for his writing on sports in Grenada urge the association to work feverishly to ensure the tournament becomes a part of the island's main calendar of events.

The renowned journalist said "I have been clamoring for years for the association to introduce a Boxing Day event, and I am hopeful that the GFA will now seek to include in its calendar of events an international fixture on boxing day this year".

The Grenada Football Association, is currently working to finalize plans for its opening on March 10th in Grenville. Six teams are taking part in the inaugural tournament. They are St. Patrick Chiefs, St. Mark Sharks, St. John Wizards, St. Andrew Planters, St. David Lions and St. George Stars.

The GFA has also confirmed its franchise will be expanded to eight in 2013 with the addition of Carriacou/Petite Martinique Kayaks and a GFA Under 20 development team.





St. Patrick Chiefs playing away from home came from behind to secure a point in their warm up match against St. Andrew Planters.

The Planters took the lead but a fighting effort in the dying stage of the game saw the Chiefs secure a confident boosting equalizer.

The both teams are preparing for the inaugural Grenada Super League carded to commence on March 10th 2012 at the Victoria Park in Grenville.

St. Patrick Chiefs would have love to have the service of ace national striker Clive Murray who is currently in Thailand on a contract with Roi Et FC.

Meanwhile Otis Roberts, CEO of Jason Roberts Foundation who is working very close with the GFA is expected to make a bid to secure more contract opportunities for our local footballers.

Roberts who is on the island has identified many local players whom he believes have a great shot at an international career. Roberts witnessed two of the games and believes all that is needed is further exposure and support from the GFA.

 

the Winner Gets 40 some thousands dollars. i forgot the exact about but i know its in the 40's. the other league they had before was a joke league.. now they have whole parish as one team. so now their picking the best players from 3-4 of those teams and turning that into one team. it's good to see their finally including Carriacou and Petite Martinique because thats a small island outside the main island of grenada that gets ignored. stoke city striker Cameron Jerome's family is from there. its a tiny island outside of the main island of grenada, but their under the Grenadian flag. throwing the under 20 players in the league against grown men is also a good idea.

Otis Roberts (Jason Roberts uncle) is trying to get more players on the island professional contracts outside the island.

 

yea clive is actually playing the the 2nd division. The team he's playing for is linked to one of the thai premier league teams. So if he impresses the coaching stuff he can easly get a call up to the premier league. He also showed he can play against players in the premier league in that warm up game. He almost scored a 2nd goal in that game,but the keeper made a big save. Its decent for him because he has never played pro football before. He was a beast in high school. We're both from st patricks so i've heard alot about him bere. the GFA really pushed for a contract outside grenada because they think he can be even better than kithson bain. If you watch the highligts you can see he's a good player when he gets good service. he's not getting good service on the grenadian team.
