Costa Rica will host the Copa Centroamericana for the third time (1991, 1999). http://www.goal.com/es-us/news/2208...s-ticos-serán-sede-de-la-copa-centroamericana Too bad for Nicaragua as they were hoping to get it.
It' a shame for Nicaragua, but they just don't have the infrastructure. The stadium in Managua hasn't been completed yet, and traveling around the country is still complicated. They may have something of a home atmosphere in Costa Rica.
It sounds as if there is a lot of south-eastern Nicaraguan migration to CR. Can you tell me a little more about it? (most of my NIC friends are from the NIC-HON border area, so I'm not very acquainted with the opposite border migration deal).
I believe there's about 1 million Nica residents in CR (many illegally) there's even entire Nicaraguan neighborhoods located in the Gran Área Metropolitana (San José metro area). Costa Rica has a shortage of labor so that's why they have to fill the void. Most are good people but many are criminals so there has been been a rise in "xenophobia" I would say. Many of these hard working folks are poor so I don't know how many would even want to waste money in a sport they don't even support. This is the area that has the most support for fútbol in the country, the Northern part not the Southern part bordering Costa Rica. Excuse me for going Off-topic.
There are immigrants from all over Central America (as well as the Dom. Republic and Colombia) and all that are there illegaly face some form of discrimination. Nicaragua's real problem with Costa Rica stems from a war in the 19th Century, and the disputed Guanacaste province (the Guanacaste people are also discriminated against.) The Contra War in the 70s and 80s and the huge migration that followed exacerbated the situation. The oldest best-supported club in Costa Rica is Dirangen in Diriambia, near the Nicaraguan border. The national team camp is also located there. Esteli (up north) didn't have much support until they won their first championship in 1991. The game is currently very popular in Nicaragua (behind Baseball and Boxing) as the government is pouring tons of money into it, and their pet project Walter Ferretti.
No other community gets close to the amount of Nicaraguans. The only Guatemalans that go to Costa Rica usually drug traffickers and other criminals running away from the law.
http://www.uapress.arizona.edu/Books/bid1486.htm http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=38234 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_people_in_Costa_Rica At least 25% of people living in Costa Rica are immigrants from all over the place. Nicaraguans are naturally the largest group as they share the largest border.
Yes because even if you combine the entire populations of other immigrant groups Nicaragua still wins. I think Colombia (Not from C.A.) has the biggest community after Nicaragua and they don't even reach into 100,000 population.
GRUPO A Costa Rica Guatemala Nicaragua Belice GRUPO B Honduras Panamá El Salvador Top 5 advance to Gold Cup http://guatefutbol.com/index.php/selecciones-nacionales/item/2905-con-el-anfitrión
Pretty good results for Nicaragua and El Salvador who drew with Guatemala and Honduras respectively. Costa Rica going for the first win of the tournament v Belice right now.
5484 = total attendance for yesterday's tripleheader. Surely below what the organizers were hoping for, but a number that should improve as the tournament (and the host team) progresses.
Costa Rica has qualified to semifinals and ensured participation at the Gold Cup after opening the tournament with 2 victories. Guatemala needs to beat them (or draw with them and hope there is no winner between NIC-BLZ) to finish second in the group. Otherwise, GUA is going to the 5th place Playoff. In the other group, after El Salvador drew with both Honduras and Panama, they would need a winner or a scoreless draw between those two, to advance to semis directly; if Panama and Honduras draw 1-1, Panama and El Salvador would have to drawing lots to decide who advances. Any draw with more than 1 goal scored per team between HON and PAN, qualifies both and sends ESA to the 5th place Playoff. Belize has achieved its first ever victory at this tournament and can qualify to the Gold Cup tonight if Guatemala does not beat Costa Rica.
Despite a extremely disappointing tournament from Panama they have a chance to grab the last spot with a match against Guatemala Friday 3pm local time. I believe the winner of that gets a spot in the Gold Cup is that correct? Anyways not a good tournament for us and shows one of weaknesses heading to the Hex and that is lack of scoring options, granted a few important players were not part of this tournament (can say the same though about some of the other squads) we need Blas Perez and Luis Tejada (who wasn't there) to step up and get some goals once we start WCQ or else this team could see it's way out of any chance pretty early. I hope for the best against Guatemala but honestly who knows. Anyways congrats to the teams that have qualified for the Gold Cup already and will continue in trying to win this tournament. Viva Panama!
