hello i have been watching the mls and i love the league, but i dont have a team to follow. I live in iowa which is pretty much the worst place to live in as a sports fan as you never have a professional team withing 5 hours or so. have been following soccer for a year and am a manchester united fan as european teams go. im looking for a team to follow but no team has really caught me. im looking for mls teams that fit the following criteria -They have to be on TV often. Im not going to have a local package with an mls team but i have fox soccer channel and espn so i catch the games on those channels, i want a team i dont have to constantly find a stream for in order to see their games. -they cant be the Fire, Crew, chivas, revs Or timbers. no offence to those fan bases but i know that none of those teams will interest me. -have to be an american team. i love you canada but i want to support an american team. -team quality doesnt matter. i dont care how good they are as long as i can enjoy watching them. -geography doesnt matter. im not going to be going to any mls games soon because of my age and traveling so i dont need a team that is near by so i can go to games, plus im from iowa so im used to not having a near by team. thank you in advance for anyone that helps
What MLS city is cheapest to fly to? Watching games on tv is nothing like watching them live & you'll be better off finding a team you can see the games. It looks like KC is the only team you haven't eliminated which is even remotely within driving distance.
like i said geography doesnt matter, my family or friends dont take an interest in soccer like i do i end up watching mls alone on the tv or on stream. i can always go to regional stadiums to watch my team and im not above flying to go watch a team in the home stadium
Well, based on your criteria, you're most likely to find LA Galaxy, NYRB, Seattle, or Colorado games to watch on FSC and ESPN, so you'll probably have to choose one of those.
I came up with nearly the same list in my head, except in place of Colorado, I had DC. Or you could wait and see if there's anything behind the rumors around that Minneapolis could be getting a side in a soonish expansion.
Real Salt Lake is unwatchable and likely not going to be on national TV for a while, so scratch that...
i live only 2 hours away from them so while i could go to games occasionaly i can see them enough to be interested.
if you hate winning, may i suggest toronto! seriously. it's like watching an episode of lost but without all the cool stuff happening.
Chicago Fire Premier (PDL) at Iowa Menace (USASA-IA) Valley Stadium; West Des Moines, Iowa Tuesday, June 14 at 7:30 p.m. CT How about going to see the US Open Cup?
Ima be honest with ya. Pick the team you like, dont let a bunch of people behind a computer pick your team (including me). What you need to do is go online and watch highlights of teams. You will find a team that seems exciting to you. Go on their webpage and check them out, see if the organization applies to you. Then from there you will grow on your team. Best suggestion mapqwest the closest MLS team to you. Dont wanna live in Iowa and support LA or Chivas having zero previous ties to them. hope that helps ya...
I would say choose based on both proximity and also what sort of soccer you're interested in watching - some teams, like my Galaxy, RSL, Seattle and NYRB play noticeably possession-oriented soccer while other teams, such as Dallas, Philly and DC are quick, counterattacking sides. Considering Chicago seems to be on the rise again after their recent trades, and that they are the closest MLS team to where you live, I would say put your support behind a fellow Midwestern team like the Fire.
Don't let these guys tell you not to root for the LA Galaxy because they are further away from you than other teams are. The Galaxy have put together an offensive-minded squad that will be a lot of fun to watch, with a defense that is suspect to be honest now that Omar is injured - so if you are a fan of watching goals, outscoring teams and not a defensive (cynical) type mindset in your soccer, the Galaxy is where it's at! Besides, the best and most active club supporters are at the Galaxy MLS portion of BigSoccer, so you'll be sharing your new team with a lot of other Galaxy fans!
Seattle probably has the easiest way to follow them. They have a great iPhone/iPad app that even streams live the radio broadcast of their games. The club is very interactive with their fans. You can be part of their Alliance, voting polls on their website and App. As a club, they get their supporters involved. Sporting KC is also a great club now. With your geography I think SKC is a good club. Not sure if they have the active fan involvement that Seattle does, but when they were doing the rebranding to SKC they gave indications that they were going to do similar things. Overall, SKC is a great club to follow. Ultimately, it is up to you to decide. Maybe it comes down to "I just like their kits" when you decide who is your Team. But whatever it is that makes your final decision, stay loyal and bleed their colors. I'm a DC United fan, so I'm always welcome to have another DCU fan out there (hint hint)!
