Right, it's the public's fault for not turning up to watch your shitty coach drive your expensive squad into a wall every game.
The driver? probably, the father in the article is actually very supportive of the Roar fans and very anti-police. What's encouraging these days is the response from the general public to these type of articles. Not that long ago, these Soccerphobic articles would be swallowed hook, line, sinker & copy of Angling times by the general public. If you read the responses to the article by the sokkah hating Herald Sun regarding the arrest of 16 fans (from the 26k) at the Melbourne Derby were very encouraging. It will take a whole generation of change ridding the 4th estate of types raised hostile to Soccer in this country, specifically the editors that believe that the readers 'want' top read this garbage. Like Pepsi, Soccer is the choice of the Next generation in your country and mine.
amen. p.s, i am dying for our respective federations to have a friendly against one another, even though odds are, you will kick our ass.
Yes, that sucked and IIRC it wasn't even your first XI! ouch! Still, we had Pim, 'play for a draw at home AND away' Verbeek in charge, don't we look so much better under Herr Holger
Melburnians are famous in Australia for being ultra passionate sports fans. By contrast Sydneysiders are famous for being very blase about attending live sport - unless its an 'event game'. Folklore will tell you that if you move to Melbourne, a local will ask you two questions. 1. What's your name? 2. Who do you support? and not necessarily in that order. In Sydney its more like: 1. whats your name? 2. What school did you go to?/or Which Law firm is your daddy a partner at?
I see the differences in culture between Victoria and NSW, but why do the Heart supporters dislike the Victory supporters so much? Is it demographically split or something?(example: the Milano derby is heated because the AC milan fans were originally blue collar, while Inter's were more well off.)
No demographic split. Neither clubs have existed long enough for demographics or are based in areas of the city for different demographics. It's largely to do with Melbourne sporting culture- which can not be seperated from the AFL. Because Melbourne has 9 AFL teams (plus Geelong) the culture is very much one where you have frequent contact with supporters of other teams and thus have great opportunites to mock other teams. Mocking the supporters of other teams is very much part of Melbourne culture, so that naturally translates to the A-League where Heart and Victory supporters will go around giving each other shit all the time.
the following is the best description of the reasons and 'difference' between MHT & MVC -------------- In the beginning, the PFA created the idea of the A-League. They went to the FFA and sagely proposed she deliver twin brothers for Australia’s two major population centres. The FFA rejected the PFA’s advice. Instead, she chose to conceive a solitary child for both Melbourne & Sydney. She wanted to spoil her beloved children, to give them every chance to grow fat and healthy on these huge markets for five years without the competition. When it came to find the father of the Melbourne A-League club, the FFA lifted her skirt and flirted with three suitors. Tony Ising, dressed in navy blue, sold the vision and laid on the charm. The FFA blushed, her eyes dilated and she quivered in anticipation. A passionate tryst ensued and a child, Melbourne Victory, was born. A significant chunk of Melbourne’s starved football community became smitten and for five years they helped grow a football empire. The FFA was pleased. Her Melbourne child was strong and healthy, but for the A-League to grow and improve Victory needed competition. Surely, she thought, there must be fans in Melbourne who had not jumped on the Victory bandwagon. So, she put her shortest skirt back on and went looking for a new father. And as a result, Melbourne Heart was born. So there we have it, two bastard children, as illegitimate as each other, competing in the A-League’s only legitimate derby. Victory, the obese, spoiled older child, versus Heart, the scrawnier, better natured little brother. ----- source: http://www.theroar.com.au/2011/10/22/the-melbourne-derby-when-two-brothers-go-to-war/

I don't know if everyone saw Fozzies anti-Briton rant last week, but apparently its all blown up: Magilton signing takes Victory back in time
Mainly because Robbie Slater has called him a racist http://www.smh.com.au/sport/footbal...s-slater-charge-of-racism-20120116-1q3a1.html
God, Robbie Slater. Thanks to your idiocy I have to stick up for Fozzie: he's not made a racist distinction you huge plank, he's outlining the fact that English coaching culture has been a dead end for close to 40 years. You can argue he's wrong about Magilton as a representative of that culture but it's not 'racist', you drooling simpleton.
