A less interested or motivated team doesn't usually pick up 2 yellows in a friendly. The four guys making their international debut wouldn't have a motivational problem, and Ribery was up for it.

Not their complete A team doesn't really matter when they're more athletic and more technical than us anyway.

The talk about the French sides A-team v. whatever is interesting. I think we'll be seeing a lot of these players playing with France in near future (not to mention several international transfers that'll raise the profile of some players). And, in terms of caps only a few of the French players are that new, and in those cases the players are no slouches.

To turn this around, if we start Brek are we playing less than our A-team? He's young, relatively uncapped, but probably as effective as anyone.

On a French message board, trying to score rhetorical points against their own new coach? "We played at home against an experimental side without five starters--Donovan, Gooch, Holden, Torres, Bradley."

Yeah. You know France's wiki page (I know it's not the be all) has 3 players with more than 50 caps listed among Friday's and the recent call-ups. The US has 9. Nasri would be young and relatively uncapped by US standards.

You know the fact that we have so many players over 50 caps actually concerns me a little. We've got a team full of average players, one would think we'd be able to develop reasonable replacements at a better pace.

This Klinsmann interview before the France game can only be talking about Jones, Kljsten, and/or Bradley. The last part is specifically about Jones and Bradley. Pretty clear they're not following instructions to his satisfaction...yet.

So Edu not linking up with the attack, and not completing a single pass in the final 3rd over two games, is following directions?

I'd like to see what Klinsy is telling Beckerman and Edu to do. I think Becks has been extremely disciplined on defense, as a 6, as JK wants. But is JK telling our #8, while he's preaching attacking soccer, to NOT connect on balls in the final 3rd, and NOT link up effectively with Clint/Jozy/Brek?

If he is, Edu is doing a masterful job of following orders.

You know what that interview tells me? It tells me that Klinsmann knows he has better players available, but is married to a system that doesn't allow us to get our best players on the field in a position to succeed.

It tells me that we are on a sinking ship and Klinsmann is stearing straight into an iceberg just for the sake of steering into an iceberg.

LOL. Just like the German Nats and the guys at Bayern let's pray they don't follow his instructions!!! For all our sakes.

Can't accuse the guy of being lacking in the self-confidence department, Bruce Arena would blush with modesty with comments like that. The question will be, will the players go along with this, and for how long? He's already got a conflict lined up with Landon Donovan ("no more outside mid for you! You are now playmaker!) and you just wonder when other players start finding reasons not to be called up. Messianic, dictatorial personalities sometimes fly when you're winning but not so much when the results have been so poor. After all, it's not like Dempsey, Howard, Bradley, and Jones don't make millions playing for their clubs and have families that they want to spend time with. Maybe a little beating up on Antigua will win people over.

Hopefully Bradley is getting the Mr. Miyagi treatment and he's going to go all Daniel-san after he finishes waxing Klinsmann's BMW (not a euphemism for what Robbie Rogers did to get a starting spot).

Well, those quotes make me feel a little dumb for defending the guy, but I hope he's more flexible than the interview suggests. If he stays wedded to his plan and doesn't give our better players a chance, the outrage is going to get louder and louder, and he'll have to do something.

I still don't know that he knows there is an iceberg out there. Like too many US fans, he has always talked as if qualifying was a foregone conclusion. The semi-finals will be difficult, and he's blown a good portion of his prep opportunities.

What's frustrating is that this team didn't need an overhall.

    1)Use Bradley's preferred starting lineup
2)Make Jones a dedicated 6 to cover the back line and provide an outlet.
3)Put Shea in as an attacking midfielder.
4)Move either Donovan or Dempsey up top to accommodate Shea.
5)Let Holden and Bradley fight for the 8 spot.
6)Shoot defenders and goal keepers that hoof the ball up field under no pressure.

In other words, it just needed Shea in, Altidore out, Jones told to sit deep, and the defenders told to pass short? There are some problems with that that you can see he's been attempting to solve.

In part I agree with this.

Jurgen took over a team that had just made the knockout stages of the World Cup & the final of the Gold Cup (albeit unconvincingly)................and decided he needed to start over with a fresh philosophy. There were always going to be growing pains. Many on these boards stated that we were going to take a step backwards in order to take 2 steps forward in 2014. Now that we're seeing the step backwards (and the inclusion of every single German we can find with a hint of American blood.)...............a freak out session is going on.

But for the life of me I can't figure out Jurgen's personnel decisions. Michael Bradley may frustrate some people with certain aspects of his game...............but he's better than what we're currently putting out there. It made sense to bench Bradley at the start of Jurgen's tenure as Michael wasn't getting any playing time in club football. But now that he's getting plenty of playing time in Serie A (for Christ's sake) one would think he should be back in the picture.

But hey, maybe Jurgen wants to test Edu to see what he's got. In a way he knows what he's got in Michael Bradley.

one would imagine that this would be a test for Beckerman as Edu at least found playing time rather consistently (when healthy) under Bob. Either way, we've known for some time that the Beckerman and Edu pairing simply is not connecting with the attack.

Even though we know what MB brings to the table, he still needs time to adjust in a game setting to the system. You mention the growing pains for a coach who is implementing a new system, but the players have the same pains. Some have pulled through and some have not. What we do know is under this system we are not creating enough chances. We might be able to in Quals when the teams are less disciplined then a Belgium, France or Italy, but that also relies on our players finishing which they didnt against Costa Rica and Honduras (despite beating Honduras 1-0).

We've seen 6 games of Beckerman and Edu. Other CM pairings have gotten bit roles. I think it's time to see what others can do in the system. If we see Beckerman and Edu start against Slovenia we might as well prep ourselves for the pairing come Qualifiers barring injury.

I agree with this is Jurgen's thinking... he believes the fans like what he is doing however he is hurting the team because Micheal is going to be the DM Brazil and (probably) Russia not Jermaine Jones simply because:

    Jones- 30yrs
    Bradley- 24yrs

So play the one who will actually benefit the team... but although if I have said it one I have said it a mil time we hired a bad (the wrong) coach.

    ...and Bayern fans would know.

It's amazing how so many pie in the sky yanks are willing to ignore everything that has come out about our boy over his years of coaching there.

Those Germans are just jealous of JK's greatness. The players, coaches...they are all petty and want to take the shine off of the all powerful being.

New to the board, but this is becoming the issue that is starting to convince me that hiring JK was a HUGE mistake. I believe Junior is the best CM in our talent pool right now...by a large margin. Early in his Nats career his agressiveness was his biggest weakness. It made him a threat going forward, but he couldn't keep it from turning into recklessness which not only earned needless cards and gave up dangerous free kicks, but it actually undermine his effectiveness on defense. Once he harnessed that, though, I think he's become the most well-rounded CM we have.

The longer Klinsy avoids starting him in mid, the more I'm convinced it's all ego. It casts the USSF's decision to pass him over in '06 in a new light. It also reinforces the sense that he is going to force his system on the MNT and all of the ancillary teams come he'll or high water. I'm not sure that he will ever consider that his system might not be right for this team.

I'm starting to get a bad feeling about all this...
