Does one exist? Is anyone interested in creating one?

You know it might actually have some legs - we had quite a few locals join us up there. The main problem is that it's a huge city, and finding a good central spot could be tough.

There's only one place that I know of that has MLS Direct Kick and shows every game within the city limits. It's a Fire bar and the bartender is a capo in Section 8, so that'd be a fun place to set up shop.

That would of course be The Globe. Been there in Wizards gear. Wish I remembered more of the evening; I'm sure it was epic.

It's a great bar...the Fire fans have been friendly for the most part during Sporting matches.

I don't live in Chicago, probably won't be anytime soon, but I fully support this.

Need to see about trying to find and contact KC fans in Chicago. Take it to twitter? If you're serious about this, you could do what some of the other chapters (that have gotten kinda silent, sadly, despite the hooplah. I think the road trip scared off some people along with simple inaction) and start a twitter account. I'm sure the guys running the Cauldron account would retweet you and if you asked nicely, the team account probably would. Hell, if you're really serious, throw up a facebook profile and post on the team's page a few times. This is all obvious stuff, but I do think its the easiest way in the short term to find KC fans in Chicago.

Great ideas. I didn't want to try to start something if it already existed, but it sounds like there isn't anything yet. If nothing else, the group could meet up to watch games and then help coordinate when people bus up for the KC @ Chi match.

You could try something like meetup.com and create a "relocated MLS fans" meetup. Start making a few friends and see if any SKC fans show up. Just an idea.

Springfield is where we're struggling that was doing well. We just lost most of the leadership people to new real-life jobs. There's still plenty of potential in Springfield.

Columbia & Lawrence are still going strong, and Milwaukee is fine too though that will be a harder one to sustain.

Ya I'm not planning on doing anything crazy, really, at least not right now. I don't think there would be much to sustain...just pick a spot to have the "official" watch parties and if people want to show, they can show. And then obviously we'd come party with everyone when KC plays in Chicago, and then maybe do group trips to KC.

I think it would be a steady growth...I'm assuming there aren't a whole lot of SKC fans in Chicago considering the franchise is only 15 years old. But I also know a lot of folks who grew up in the KC area who are starting to move here. And there are some KC people up here I know who would probably become chapter members for the social aspects.

Yeah it's more about all the people that move there for jobs. Know they're there but getting consistent turnout etc can be tough. Need someone to be committed to being the info contact for all of it.

Yeah, I figure it'll be a pretty simple chapter for the time being until it grows. I'll just set up GMail, twitter, and a FB page and then update with reminders about game times and watch location(s).

Any ideas for a chapter name?

What can I say? I have a weird affinity for portmanteau. (Yes, I'm a big language dork.)

i know some kansas citians in chicago that would be mildly interested. none of them are really major soccer fans i don't think, but they like to rep KC as much as they can.

p.s. can't imagine why anyone would want to live there, personally. it's winter 9 months of the year and full of every asshole from every medium-sized city in the midwest that thought they were too good for wherever they were from.

Surprised you haven't made it there yet. You always sound like you'd fit right in.

Definitely. There are plenty of folks willing to meet up at a bar for a couple hours with fellow Kansas Citians and drink beer/hang out/watch soccer.

Chicago is great.. it's like NYC but with less "urine & rancid garbage" smell.

Hey, I am perfectly mediocre enough for Kansas City.

NYC > Chicago any day. Chicago is like the kid at high school that doesn't play sports but tries to hang out with the jocks and do whatever's popular at the moment. In his mind, he's one of the cool kids, but nobody really pays any attention to him.

This thread is about a new SKC supporters club, not your personal misguided feelings about Chicago.

hence the post-script. i offered my actual thoughts on it already.

also, i think that a logo with the chicago flag with navy stars instead of red would be really funny... and a sporting-er blue instead of their light blue.

I was thinking something along similar lines...I have a mock-up in photo shop open of a flag logo that incorporates the SKC logo instead of the stars...trying out a few different options.
