This thread is dedicated for those footballers out there with Chinese blood. They might not have any eligibility with Team China. The purpose of this thread is to help them gain awareness.

As mentioned in a Wild East Football article, there are several oversea players that have Chinese blood such as the followings:

    Lam Zhi Gin (German-Hong Kong)
    Calvin Jong-a-Pin (Netherlands)
    Cerezo Fung-a-Wing (Netherlands-Surinam)
    Brian Ching (United States)
    Xavier Chen (Taiwanese-Belgian)
    Victor Chou (Taiwanese-Spanish)

    要睇大陸肯唔肯改變比中國人民擁有雙重國籍.

fevernova mentioned that fifa accepted china and hong kong are two separate entities.

the one thing i dun understand is if fifa will allow hong kong citizens using the "grandparent rules" --- if one of your grandparents or parents are born in china --- they are eligible to represent china.

anyway, i dun think lam zhi gin is even interested to play for china if he was given a chance. he is young, speaks only german (and only few phrases of cantonese), and highly rated. i think he will only be interested to play for germany.

    他們是在中國出生的朝鮮族, 擁有中國國籍, 不是oversea footballers.

"Hong Kong made a bigger impression on him for shopping than football."
    trolololol.

i think lam won't even consider playing for hong kong unless he is 28/29 when he knows german team won't call him up ;)

pretty much like how xavier chen wanted to play for belgium, but he was never called up, and at the age of 28, he decided to play for chinese taipei/taiwan

I was quite surprised when i saw his (chinese) name on the Man City EPL team list.

I'm quite interested in reading more about his eligibility to play for HK/China and was wondering if you had any links handy about him wanting to represent HK because i think he has already played for some of the Irish or English national youth teams?

youth team appearances do not affect senior team eligibility :)

if sean plays for irish/england youth team, he is still eligible to play for the hong kong youth/senior team. if he plays for the hong kong senior team tho, he is not eligible to play for other teams.

one example is Miralem Pjanic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miralem_Pjanić)
Pjanic played for the Luxembourg youth, but later plays for Bosnia. :)

Ah okay, then. So there is a chance he may play for Hong Kong.

Would be interesting if he did take up the option to play for HK! Do you think that him playing for HK is a realistic prospect?

i think playing for national team is a bonus for most players.
if sean believes that his skill is not good enough for england and irish team, i think playing for hong kong could be a realistic prospect.

but we need to give him time, not every player is willing to commit himself right away. citing an example earlier, xavier chen wanted to play for belgium first, but at age 27 (when it seems he couldn't make the cut), he finally made the decision to play for taiwan.
