He's fast and his service is aggressive if predictable and sometimes sloppy. Who can argue with a billion served?
Re: Jozy at the Arena, sat 10/15 Ajax vs AZ 18.45 CET Last evening in the Dutch soccer tv program Studio Voetbal Jozy's former team mate Ronald Waterreus and his coach Verbeek were among the guests. RW recalled that Jozy always came late for training and RW always tried to make him become more serious with his profession by trying to convince him to come in time and to prepare better for the training, but as RW said Jozy then would look at him with those faithful doggy eyes and see him think: "What on earth are you talking about". RW also said he was glad that Verbeek is his coach now and that if there is one person that can get him on track to take his profession serious that would be Verbeek. So in short it seems that Jozy has squandered precious time to become a quality player and the choices he made didnot help either as it seems that he needs someone who is breathing in his neck and that is something the clubs he played for have no time for or are willing to do.
I'm not arguing that Jozy shouldn't train hard, or work on being more professional. It is also important to point out that when RW was teammates with Jozy, Jozy was just 18.
I remember he was left out of a game at Hull because he showed up late. In fairness, it's probably fairly typical that a young player will learn how to be a good pro from the veterans, let's just hope he has listened to those lessons.
Thanks for the post. Hull was a long time ago, though. I'd think Jozy is a bit different not, and the results show on the field.
No, the remark of RW was about how Jozy was then, not today. Verbeek wouldnot allow it anyway, otherwise he would challenge Jozy to do the obstacle run used by marines and see who ends up gasping for air...well I know who to bet on Verbeek also reacted a few weeks ago on a reporters cheeky remark that Jozy thinks he's stronger than Verbeek with: Strong doesnot mean fit... But I think Jozy doesnot know how strong Verbeek really is, otherwise he wouldnot be so cheeky to say that. But it also shows how the atmosphere is at AZ, relaxed and playful. Oh, by the way....we beat the USA and Panama at the Baseball World Cup this week. Canada only won with luck.
I noticed a few critical posts concerning Jozy in his last Nat team match. I think these posters forget that he is only a few weeks/months in proper striker coaching and training since ...well who can say..It will only be fair to judge him in a year to see if he has improved on the essentials of a strikers weapons. First he must grasp the fine details of positioning, running lines etc. and then hone this by putting it in practice. That takes a lot of time.
I thought he was pretty good in terms of holding the ball at midfield and finding good passes. He had trouble finding the right spots to run to in the final third. It doesn't help that we didn't get much service into the box. Overall though I wasn't disappointed in Altidore's performance at all. He's rounding out his game...
You, sir, are obviously an uninformed soccer fan. Everyone on the BigSoccer boards knows that players cannot improve technically or tactically more than 7 months ex-utero. Jozy is what he is. A total washout failure who squandered his future as the all time greatest goalscorer in the history of soccer because he doesn't own nor know how to set an alarm clock. Please adjust your sarcasm meters before responding to this post. Thank you. That is all. You may now resume your normally scheduled BS fanboy/hater/apologist rants.
Just stumbled across on youtube that Ajax-AZ is going to be streamed live on the site on Saturday morning. (Not sure if this is news or not, just thought I'd share.) Here's the link to the channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/EredivisieLive?feature=lb#p/u/ylU-W18IXHo
