Grandy and Jete were not that bad. Grandy played a great CF and may be the reason this went 5 games. The rest have no excuse. Swisher is just a bum in the postseason and A-Rod just stunk.
You're absolutely right about Grandy. His fielding saved the Yanks in the A.J. game. So I'll offer him an apology. And his average in the series was only 12 points below his season's batting average (.262).
Why shouldn't they boo? The Phils are built as a SuperTeam. They should be in the World Series against either the Yankees or the Red Sox -- the other two SuperTeams. There's no excuse for any of the three flopping like they did. Anyway, might as well be Cardinals-Tigers. Old teams with history -- and 3 previous World Series battles with each other. Who the hell wants expansion teams nobody gives a shit about?
Tigers/Cardinals would be a nice WS. That's what I'm hoping for now. BTW, regarding Phillie fan booing, Ryan Howard was rolling around in the first base path with what looked like a ruptured Achilles tendon, so for me, not a good time to boo lustily. But hey, they are from the god forsaken Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, so who could be surprised? So the team that courted Cliff Lee the hardest? Out. The team that swooped in and stole Cliff Lee? Out. The team that lost Cliff Lee? ALCS.
Possible 2012 Yankees lineup: 1. Derek Jeter (R) SS 2. Curtis Granderson (L) CF 3. Carlos Beltran (S) RF 4. Robinson Cano (L) 2B 5. Alex Rodriguez (R) 3B 6. Mark Teixeira (S) 1B 7. Jesus Montero (R) DH 8. Russell Martin (R) C 9. Brett Gardner (L) LF INF: Eric Chavez (L), Eduardo Nunez (R) OF: Andruw Jones (R), Nick Swisher (S) (sign & trade or don't pick up option) C: Austin Romine (R)
I can see Beltran being a DH or playing RF next year. He was very close to becoming a Yankee a couple years ago. If he stays healthy he's a solid all around player. You can take it to the bank that Swisher will be gone next year. 2 terrible postseasons in a row for him. Time to move on
I can only be happy about this. I would never have said it but now that it seems like he's leaving, i think he's a very good GM. Glad to see him leave.

Yankee organizational meetings are underway in Tampa with Brian Cashman present. So obviously his signing a new contract is going to be a formality. His current one ends at the end of the month. Glad he's staying and there wasn't any drama about it. Ex-Yank piching coach Dave Eiland has signed on with the Kansas City Royals.
Brian Cashman's new contract is complete and should be announced on Monday. Reports are that it's a 3-year deal. Radio War Brewing Between Yankees, Mets - N.Y. Post
Eight Yankees became free agents on Sunday: Luis Ayala, Eric Chavez, Bartolo Colon, Freddy Garcia, Andruw Jones, Damaso Marte, Sergio Mitre, Jorge Posada.
The Yanks officially announced that Brian Cashman has signed a new 3-year contract to remain as GM. The value was not disclosed. CC back. Cash back. No drama about either. So far, so good. (Oh yeah, we're keeping the outfield walls where they are. You don't have to move them in when you build your new stadium understanding that offense is also a part of baseball. )
