So TS is finally admitting we need some help on defense? Let's hope he can help demerit shore up that back line.

This guy came from a league probably lower quality than D2. I don't think he will be much more than a marginal depth player.

TS sure knows how to find players!

I don't really understand the rules of MLS transfers, but I though the int'l window closed a few weeks ago? How were we able to sign this guy anyways?

cheap, cheap, cheap... thats how they got him

is this another baffling decision by the Caps FO? i hope i am wrong and this guy has the wheels to make a difference in CD- rochat and DeMerit are strong on the ball and smart players, but lack the pace to keep up with some of the MLS strikers

I don't get you Americans/Canadians sometimes, you guys feel the MLS is like the best league and you diss other leagues without even thinking for a minute.

Canada has NEVER beated T&T at World Cup Level. Canada league is also very poor..

Furthermore, If anyone remembers clearly, Carlyle Mitchell and Joe Public killed New England Revolution in the Concacaf Cup 2 years ago.

T&T's W Connection did the same to NY Red Bulls when they eliminated them.

W Connection was also victorious against; C.D. Guadalajara (Mexico) Puerto Rico Islanders, C.S.D. Comunicaciones (Guatemala) and Real España (Honduras).

    Continue to undermind us guys...

Hopefully Carlyle Mitchell will make you eat your words.

    He never gives up...

pretty sure Trini league has been beyond poor recently... lost their place in the CCL to a Guyanese team...

I guess will all have to wait and see what this guy brings instead of pre-judging.

Correct, the game went to penalties and the T&T team missed the last goal, not to mentioned 75% of the Guyanese team where based in T&T and only recently got released.

Defence Force were to blame as they out shot their opponents 20 to 1 unfortunately none of the balls went in, it was one of those days, I think is was a team from Haiti (Tempete FC) and a Guyanese team that went through on penalties.

Good luck to Carlyle Mitchell, he will really have to work hard to please his new fans and with the winter coming Vancouver can get really cold, hope he bundles up, I really like his attitude, when he first came to the scene he was a dominant striker and Joe Public converted him to a central defender where he played for a few years he was also their MVP for last season.

Its a new league, new home, new teammates and new climate, so give him a chance to come along, its not easy, I have been there before.

PS: Canada does have a soccer league.

That is not a true Canadian league, and it's hardly professional. It's merely a regional mens league that plays primarily out of the province of Ontario. They simply named themselves the "Canadian Soccer League" as the name was available. That's why that wikipedia entry states "CSL teams do not currently participate in the Canadian Championship, which determines the Canadian entry into the CONCACAF Champions League, as the league is considered the Third Tier of semi-professional/professional soccer in the Canadian soccer pyramid".

Most games are played in front of 50-100 people, which is not bigger crowds than at any mens amateur league across the rest of Canada.

Simply put, it's an amateur league that plays out of one part of Canada that has misnamed itself as a nationwide professional league.

Geographically Kick the Ball living in Trinidad and Tobago is located closer to the CSL than Whitecaps fans living in BC.

I think Whitecaps is also interested in our number one keeper Marvin Phillip and if this is true, not becuase I am from Trinidad I am saying this, but you'll be very happy with Phillip, he is an excellent shot stopper.

    Hi

Yes, Canada itself is not as good as T&T on the world cup level. BUT, the MLS is not a Canadian league in itself;and actually only has a small number of Canadians playing in the league. You can not compare our national team quality to the quality of the MLS.

What makes you think the T&T domestic league is of equal or better quality to the MLS?

I never said T&T league is better, I said do not undermind us.

I am sure we have at least 2 MAYBE 3 teams that are capable of beating any MLS teams, however, I am not sure if we can do it on a consistent basis, which means, MLS teams are better in a lot of ways, organization, money and standard.

We do however hold a pretty decent record against MLS teams, I would say, MLS on 9 and T&T won 5 and 2 draws.... I will try to see if I can get the stats.

Btw, when T&T first came out in 1999, we got beated by Chicago, but since then our league catched up.

Furthermore, we export more players to foreign clubs than any league in the Caribbean.

Do you feel Carlyle Mitchell is MLS calibre and will become a regular with the Whitecaps? Or, is he more of a depth player who may not be around next season?

Good question, I like him as a player, he never gives up and he fights to the end, I remember his team got drummed and Mitchell was still playing like his life depended on it, he can score goals because he was a forward once, he is great in the air, however, this is his first time out of the country and I am not sure how he will cope, he did get man of the match for Joe Public in the Concacaf Cup a few times.

I guess it all depends on how he apply himself, he is not a starter for T&T if we call in our foreign base players, guys like Julius James (Crew), Robert Primus (Aktobe FC) and Daneil Cyrus (Sporting KC) may get the edge over him (at least for now).

Both Mitchell and Phillip is on loan to Whitecaps till season ends.

    btw....

Carlyle Mitchell is capable of starting with teams such as; Chivas, Earthquakes, Portland, Whitecaps, Toronto, DC, Revs and Montreal.

LA, Philly, NY, Crew, Salt Lake, Dallas, KC and Sounders might be a little tough for him to break through. ?

Its a big plus if both T&T players are signed with your team, its always nice seeing a familiar face on the team, it helps.

if he pans out, phillips signing may be the beginning of the end for Jay Nolly- obviously with Cannon at 36 years, his days are coming to an end and the Caps need a good back-up goalie
Nolly had his chances this year and often played quite good, especially for the first 1/3 of the season, but some of his blunders have been serious and he lacks good judgement such as coming off his line where he second-guesses himself- never a good thing for a goalie- , and he has difficulty with cross balls
phillips is probably on a trial basis until the end of the season-- is he better than nolly?? may the best man win! and if its close, then the Caps should stay with nolly, a local guy

local guy= he's played with the Caps since the D2 times, must be 4-5 years-- moot point  he's been loyal to the Caps and knows the city and its fan base- a good D2 goalie
IMO, Nolly is a local guy and should be given the nod unless the new guy is much better-- wouldn't u agree?

I'd agree, but given how they've treated their real local keepers over the years I wouldn't count on it.

    Kick the ball,

Thought you would like to know Carlyle Mitchell played the entire 90 minutes for the Whitecaps in a 3-0 victory this evening. Seemed to fit in well at the centre back position, very animated and vocal in directing the line and traffic on the incoming attackers. Was pressured only a few times and other than a flubbed clearance and missing a run from an opponent which got him chewed out by Joe Cannon did not look as though he had only practiced with the other defenders for a week.

Was on the receiving end of a fairly vicious tackle which earned the opponent a yellow card. Was on the turf for several minutes and the stretcher even started out on the field. Eventually shook off the injury and returned to finish the game.

All in all a good start.
