When you have mercenaries like De Jong a a full Stoke team, then you have to be careful about a 18 yr old with slim frame. A whole career is in front of him, he will get his time in due course.

As much as I loathe them, I think Barcelona did a smart thing recently with the buyback clause in Romeu's contract.

Is there any reason that we couldn't start doing this with the seemingly endless stream of youngsters who are let go following multiple loan periods? This would seem to me a way to prevent the heartache of letting a potential star walk out for a snip, but not hurt us if a player we sell turns out to be garbage.

Lets say that clause was 10m. If a player does become a stud then that's a bargain. If he isn't worth 10m at 22,23, chance are he isn't Chelsea starting quality anyway (very few of our squad aren't worth that I would say, especially at the early mid 20's age range).

If nothing else, it would stop the moaning about letting players go who then have good games. And if we did have this clause - of all the players we have sold, would we repurchase any/many of them?

something tells me we did that with the youth exodus to Hamburg, i mean its strange how soo many went to one club, even with Arnesen being there.

That also wouldn't surprise me, especially given how tight-lipped Chelsea are when it comes to transfers. It seems crazy that we'd let Tore and Rajkovic go for practically nothing.

very much agree, a lad with a top attitude & loves to work hard & improve. Really impressed with him & have good hopes on him after Sammy heart-break. I hope he gets chance in Carling cup.

He is going from strength to strength and I could not be happier for the lad.

I am equally pleased for his Dad- who must be over the moon the progression of Toddy.

Not sure about Toddy's dad but his grand-dad is a Dundee supporter. Heard this on twitter from Yasser on the day Todd made his reserve debut last season.

Thanks for the information, had a hunch before.

Regarding the 16s 7-0 win, Reece Mitchell scored a hat trick, rest are scored by Houghton, Isaac, Gnahore & Jeremie

From what I've seen of Kane, he might fit right into that young bunch we just brought in. If you look three or four years out, atm it is looking very strong. I need to dedicate some time to watch our young guns on Chelsea TV.

as with any good Academy- its vital to replenish your talent pool on annual basis with players of equal, or better talent

while I dont blame Arnesen as much as others for of failings in the youth development, I do think that things take time and I think that the next few classes will finally determine just how successful how Academy and Youth Setup have been

#CFC have 35 youth and reserve team players who have earned international representation, to the tune of a combined nearly 400 caps.

Conor Clifford is the most prolific but Nathaniel Chalobah will surpass most records, he has 41 England youth caps at the age of 16.

thats correct- nearly 400 caps

also confirmed that Yoevil tried to set up a loan for Conor Clifford before the end of the window but the deal could not be sorted

    de nada

I think both he and Chalobah are the most promising prospects atm. Some good talent in the U-17 to U-15 groups as well.

Lewis Baker is one I'm keeping an eye on. Liked him very much for England. Agree on talented players between 15-17 years age, Ruben Loftus Cheek is a prime example, another huge talent. Already 9 young u16 players have put pen on scholarship forms to be effective from next season & from one of the ardent youth followers I heard that there are about 8 more in u15 level who are about to do the same, I personally know very little few of them.

Here is his new article(apologies if it's a re-post), a brilliant write up & very nice read: http://www.bluetinted.com/Site/Articles/Articles.aspx?articleid=124
