So if I'm right we put a bid that failed for MVilla and there are rumors about Wenger 'going to' bit for Hazard? I guess at least Arsene is trying to buy players.

This is the normal state of the sports fan. If it's never happened to you you're either young or a Yankees fan.
I'm thinking come September 1 we may need to set up a volunteer Gooner suicide prevention watch.

    Finally, some good news.

I've gotta believe that we'll close on this one.

And it certainly fits the Wenger mold. Young. French. Ligue One.

I agree that we look pretty strong at d-mid with Song and Frimpong, but it can't hurt to have another good CM in the mix, especially with Cesc out the door.

This here is a really interesting piece and makes a good deal of sense to me, more than Wenger being a loon, which is the only other explanation.

Apparently, both Wenger and the Board need new signings are necessary and that the team is currently good enough. Also, both Wenger and the Board are willing to pay upwards of 40 million pounds to buy players.

BUT: the standoff comes re: wages. The board doesn't want to break the wage structure and Wenger does. This is the reason the Mata deal fell through, for instance. Once Chelsea's offer (re: wages) came through, Mata's camp reconsidered the Arsenal bid that had been accepted.

This ALSO explains the confusion about targets. The Board wants Wenger to buy Cahill/Dann/Parker type players, because they fit with the wage structure. But Wenger sees such players as no real upgrade on what we have, and is looking to buy players like Hazard/Benzema/Mata (and in defense, Hummels and Subotic). The board is willing to meet the transfer fees for the latter, but not necessarily the wages.

Hence, we have a standoff, of sorts. It also bears on the contract situations of Van Persie, Walcott, Vermaelen, etc..

    Anyway, its worth a read:

I looked back 2 pages and didn't see any discussion, so thought I'd post.

Regardless, if in anyway true, is a very important piece and explains a lot. The situation at the club is so opaque, but this article actually gives me some hope, as it suggests SOMETHING will get done as both sides know something has to get done.

The stadium alone shows that this is not true. You and all of the other fans that think Arsenal is falling off remember the stadium. If this were happening while we were still at Highbury, we'd be trouble. Arsenal will never be able to fall very far and they will always come back as long as they have the stadium.

You mean the Yankees that recently went 9 years between titles?

Which guy was that? Has he posted lately? Anyway, the Samaritan helpline is for people suffering from feelings of distress or despair. Best to nip these things in the bud. I wonder what they would say if someone called to express their feelings about Arsenal's transfer strategy.

Over a third of their WS titles are in my lifetime alone. That's often enough. And they won their division 6 times, and 2 AL pennants during those 9 "trophy-less" years. Sort of a rough equivalent of 6 League and 2 FA Cups?

Don't work too hard to refute this, I'm really not that married to the analogy. It's just that Yankee fans, like ManU fans, have no souls. ;)

This also goes back to something I've posted many times in the past few years: six (well, first it was three, then four, etc.) years is just not that long.

As much as I hailed up Frimmer and that was rightfully deserved, we need another professional to give him time to mature. Let me say again, he showed he's a fuhkin lion out there and a rightful heir to Essien just my .02

I think if we sign M'Vila it won't really help as much as people think. Yann is really young and we already have Song, even Diaby and Coquelin who did well for Lorient last season.

Reports on Twitter say that Mauro Zarate is close to signing by the end of the week. Also Kaka is on Wenger's radar on loan. Twitter eh?:p

I'm a Red Sox fan. I'm familiar with disappointment. But I am simply stunned by the poor public relations management of Arsenal. We sold what many people consider the heart and soul of our squad. We are likely going to sell off another big piece. And yet we've done nothing but business as usual in the acquisition side. I realize that there are 10 days left but does this REALLY need to go to the final day?

Agreed. I will be utterly despondent if we don't do something big.

The Yankees, Red Sox, and ESPN (who seem to think every baseball fan is a fan of either the Yanks or Sawks) can all go eff themselves. :p

I dont see no need to panic, it's about finiding the right player.

M'Villa is the right player, Cahill-Jagielka-Samba are for me not that much better than Koscielny if better at all so they are not the right players. Im with Wenger, you dont buy a player because somebody gets injured, big stupid move.

Attacking wise, we need a creative player......like to see Kaka, Zarate, Lucho & Jadson, any 2 of them arrive.
