As promised in the previous thread, I'm using that title. Anyway, carry on. Apparently we've just sold Na$ri; though the deal is yet to be confirmed officially by either party, Twitter is awash with news that Man Citi have paid us £25 million for his services.
If they're really paying him $200,000, that's absolutely ********ed. 25m for a player they could have on a free in a year is also equally insane.
Exactly, they paid a fair price for a player in his position, granted, it does strengthen a competitor, but it's money in the bank to spend on a replacement I really hope this means a player like Hazard is coming in. We need some good news, asap. Frankly, Nasri tailed off considerably last year, and unless Citeh is planning on doing some significant selling soon, I really don't seeing Nasri starting every match. I'm hoping to see his late, and not early, season form. Surely enough, he'll score against us, tho.
Even if Nasri was on a long-term contract, he wouldn't be worth more than that anyway. I'm not worried about him leaving per se, I'm more worried about how he is the third starter to leave this summer. Oh well..
I expect everyone on the squad realized the double departure of Cesc/Nasri was coming, but it still has to be a demoralizing blow. There damn well better be an announcement of someone joining by Monday at the latest, followed quickly by 2 or more before the close.
There needs to be a big signing. It's not only important from a footballing perspective, but also from a morale one as well. We need to bring a couple of players that will add significant value to the team and instill some confidence in our players that we too can compete for trophies. I feel like if Wenger ********s this one up, it will finally be his last year. I really like the man and also believe in him, I hope he makes the right decisions and pulls the trigger. I'm also a big believer that despite Cesc's and Nasri's departures he could still make this team even a stronger force.
I still believe in him as well. I really feel bad for AW since the last few weeks must have been difficult for him. There is still a strong nucleus of young players (Wilshere, Ramsey, Schesney, Gibbs, Theo, Frimpong..etc) and some top veterans (RVP,Sagna, Verm..) to build around. Adding some pieces, lke Hazard, Cahill, Parker or M'vila could definitely not strengthen the team but also brighten the fan's base mood and general morale around the club!
I've read multiple tweets that say we sold him for 29m, which is not possible. I hope it is but I can't believe it. 25m seems believable. Either way that money should easily bring in Eden Hazard. We still have about 35 from Fabregas and 3.5 for Eboue, so I'd bring in Marvin Martin and Gary Cahill. That would probably cost us around 23 for both and then we could still sign Zarate who's agent says we've open talks with. I think he could be a good signing. He hasn't been doing so well for Lazio but if anyone can bring the best out of a player it's Wenger. IF not Moussa Sow has been quoted saying he wants to leave Lille for Arsenal. That would be 3 Lille players we could possibly take. (counting Gervinho) I'm obviously being over ambitious but with the 65+ we will get I'm just throwing some ideas. Now take in consideration that PSG are reportedly wiling to meet the 11m price of Bendtner and we'd have over 75m to spend. I reckon 25 will be spend and the rest pocketed.
I would love to see Eden Hazard Lets face, with such instability we probably aren't going to be able to challenge this year. I think someone like Hazard and his immense skill could put the club on the right track for 2012.
So, he came to London to buy baby clothes? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ilian--soon-Premier-League-club-near-you.html
I've already come to terms that this year will be a rebuilding year. I'm actually glad it's happening. We won't have to deal with Fabregas's 'hamstring' and his lack of drive. We won't have to deal with a half season of superb football from Nasri. If we can bring in some replacements that are actually proven in some leagues and still considered as 'potential' I'll be more than okay. However, bring in a CB like Cahill because in Arsenal a 3rd choice is really the 1st choice since they're injured all the time. If we really do spend at least half of the transfer money, I'll be really happy. The team will get rid of baggage and bring in guys who actually want to play. At the end all I want is drive and passion from the guys.
Wow, I love all the Football Manager posts. If there is one thing I've learned in the past years is that just because we have X pounds to spend doesn't mean we'll spend X pounds on the players we need. The boss and the organization are addicted to getting "value" so I'd be surprised if we spent 1/3 of what we've got from all the outgoing players.
Hazard is "the one" for me. It works on so many levels. He has the star quality we need, he's young, he plays in Ligue One (Arsene's favorite league to poach), and perhaps most importantly...we're his "dream" club. Or at least that's what he was saying a year ago. He seems a little less likely than the average soccer mercenary to ditch us for Barca/Real/Man City the minute someone throws some dollars at him. Come on Arsene, MAKE IT HAPPEN. Beyond him, I'd like to see us add another striker and maybe another fullback. We have no legitimate forwards besides RVP and I don't trust Jenkinson and Traore to start EPL & CL matches. I don't view CB as such a big need because I think Koscielny and Vermaelen can be a strong top two with Djourou a strong third. I don't think we need to splash cash here, but maybe we can find a bargain #4 to replace the dismal Squatch.
From what I read, it is 29 Million Euros ( or 25 Million Pounds). On a different note...Cesc is warming up to enter the Supercopa final against Real.....That sucks.
My wish list would be Hazard and Vertongen. And maybe another forward to replace Chamakh, er i mean Bendtner.
there's no reason, if the nasri figure is true, why we couldn't afford either mata (£25m?) or hazard (£25m?), vertonghen (£20m?), possibly dann (£7m?) and possibly a promising striker (£13m?). it would leave us pennyless, BUT it would totally transform the squad. (i haven't looked to see what effect the homegrown rule aspect would have though)
I have a strong feeling that we will get Hazard and either Cahill or Jags. The Twitter world is buzzing about Hazard to Arsenal for 30 M Euros..
my worry with the likes of cahill or jagielka is that we are investing a lot of cash to drop koscielny to the bench when it may be more usefully invested elsewhere. imo it's just solid numbers we need in defence, not that the vermaelen/koscielny pairing isn't good enough. that's why i think maybe dann would probably do the trick and allow for real quality where it's needed (ie. in attack). especially so if vertonghen really was a target as a combination of dann and vertonghen kind of covers the defensive depth. saving maybe £10m on a cb might make the difference between average and real quality further forward.
Yeah, i'm not sure where we stand with the homegrown rule both this season and going forward. But at this point we need quality and depth all over the pitch. I don't expect Wenger to spend all his transfer funds in the next two weeks (not by a long shot), but even spending 35 to 40 million on three players should shore up our weakest spots and give the players and the fans a morale boost.
he had to be shocked at how bad that performance was last night. arsenal of old destroys that team at home.
fair price? lol, we absolutely raped them here this Google Eden Hazard and Real Madrid I agree with that although we could use another left back
Arsenal of 3 years ago destroys that team at home. And yeah, Wenger didn't look to pleased up in the box. Is this the year he finally opens up that wallet? ********ing hope so.
